If you check the background, a very young Alex Panayi is one of the backing vocalists. He'd go on to represent Cyprus twice (in 1995 and 2000), then provide backing vocals and vocal coaching right through this year (he's the vocal coach behind Russia and Azerbaijan's entries this year).
And also Elena Patroklou who represented Cyprus in 1991 ;-)

Το 1989 όμως ήταν από τις πιο ανιαρές χρονιές με πολλές μπαλάντες. Και τοτε τα αποτελέσματα δεν ήταν και τα πιο δίκαια. Όμως γενικά οι διαγωνισμοί των 70ς, 80ς, 90ς είχαν καλύτερα τραγουδια από των 00ς και 10ς.

O Giannis Savvidakis é um grego loiro de olho azul e branquinho nascido em 1963, agora é um sósia do Jon Bon Jovi com cabelinho branco ou grisalho e usa óculos por causa da idade, o que lhe dá um ar de inteletual.

The guitar player plays in the wrong key at the beginning. The singer entered in the right one!
Fun fact: Haris Andreadis,the conductor, as I've read on the site above (with many other fun facts and memories from his participations) was about to stop the orchestra and play it again.
It sounds to me like the drummer has some timing issues in a few places too, especially on the first verse, but that also might be Fanny singing slightly out of sync after the confusion on the intro. All in all it never quite recovers from that opening error but it's the orchestra's only blip in a strong night for them.

Como curiosidad, el rubito Giannis Savvidakis es actor, cantante y compositor, ha rodado alguna que otra serie y ahora se parece al Bon Jovi canoso, hasta lleva gafas de intelectual. La morena Fani Polymeri es escritora y su padre (Fotis Polymeris) era músico, de casta le viene al galgo. Además, está casada con Filippos Tsemperoulis, el flautista que acompañó a la griega Mariana y colaborador de Giorgos Dalaras.

@@georgedc80 Check the article in the description: Charis Andreadis (the conductor) mentioned that the guitar player was drunk and almost threw everything off. The music director said the same thing.

Perhaps not the best song to make a case for the orchestra. 1989 was a good one and I love Benoit Kaufman's direction on a lot of the songs, but this has several mistakes.

The Icelandic jury gave 12 points to this song for reasons I still don't understand.
Because this is gold unlike Iceland's song in eurovision 2019 witch is crap like portugal's

Cyprus should have returned the 12 years the following year. That would changed the results and Iceland would be second, quite closed to the winner!
