- My large family grocery budget is now officially GONE!! Today I shopped the weekly sales at 10 Box, Aldi, and Kroger. I also brought home an Azure Standard haul. This grocery haul includes an extra bonus story where I was suspected of shoplifting today...yikes! (The sale prices in this video should be good through Tuesday, June 6th.)

Oh my goodness! I think I may have been beet red at the checkout. I shopped at Walmart recently and purchased 2 5 gallon buckets, which promptly suctioned together. No cashiers, so had to do self checkout, so I was stopped by the “greeter”/security guy who wanted me to pull the buckets apart. I told him he was welcome to pull them apart if he could, but I’m not standing there in front of God and everyone like a criminal, given that I have a very long receipt and am not a thief, sir. 😊. He told me to just go on. I was embarrassed and insulted at the same time, and to be honest, I probably would’ve only purchased one of the darn buckets in the first place if I could’ve gotten them apart in the aisle.
Yeah, that's frustrating!! I've gotten to where I'm paranoid to even put my grocery list back in my purse when I'm finished shopping. I'm afraid the cameras are watching me and thinking I'm trying to steal something by putting it in my purse. Unfortunately, that's the world we live in nowadays. I've actually witnessed people stealing at the self-checkouts so I know there's a valid concern, but I don't like being the suspect!!
I just tell them no thank you and keep walking. They legally cannot check your receipt. Now places like, sams, Costco, bimart…. They can because you agree to the rules when you join.
Where I can pay cash. Small group very stories 😔 n our town have more stock them bigger stores
I'm sorry that happened to you, it's not fair on you. I remember the only time I was accused of shoplifting. I was 10 and my sister was 12 and we were allowed to go up to a market stall to buy a set of five hair ties while Mum stood back. We took out a few colours from the container but ultimately decided to get the ones that were already in sets of five. They accused us of putting the loose hairties into our pockets. I didn't even know what shoplifting was which made the store owner angrier as tears poured down my face. My older sister told them that we had been buying these hairties once a month and would no longer be doing this. The lady followed us back to Mum and made us empty our pockets which of course were empty. That was 35 year ago but I remember it like it was yesterday. It seems that those who wouldn't dare to do anything like that are wrongly accused. I had a hard time doing things independently as I was incredibly shy and as an adult we realised I have aspergers and this set me back a number of years after all the hard work Mum had put into getting me to this stage.
Don’t ever stop for the Walmart greeters. If they suspect you stole something, they HAVE to call the police. Even the Walmart security can’t make you stop. Quit letting these companies tell us what to do.
What an amazing woman. This is the real America I grew up with.

Hate them self checkouts they stop the honest ones but the people that cheat on them get away . Don’t fret it has happen to me too

I won’t use them. I will stand in line however long I have to tomuse a regular human cashier.
And I really hate the people that check your receipts at the door In Walmart like you are a Criminal . I won’t stop when they “ask” me to ! I tell them I am not anyheir and they can hold me or call police IF they have evidence that I’m a their, otherwise I’m not stopping and allowing them to treat me that way.
I’ve had some follow me to the parking lot screaming at me to stop! I yelled right back, call the police if I’m a theif!
I’m a Christian and a military vet , I will not be treated like a criminal!

You look nice in the darker colored shirt! Idk about Kroger, but Walmart has very advanced security systems in place and I think they must have facial recognition cameras as well. Had a friend whose sister was arrested for shoplifting at Walmart. Her children were with her, thank goodness my friend and her b/f were with her and could take the children. Anyway the gal stated she had never stolen anything before. Security didn't say anything, just flipped a camera on with different pics of her stealing items from different Walmarts throughout the city! Some pics were taken last fall. Besides being able to pull that up, my friend told me that the cameras are very clear and can pick up every minute detail. She was watching them as they talked to her sister and said they were amazing. They can see what's down in your purse if it's slightly open and they want to. They could read your texts if you are texting. She said it was amazing and was very thankful that her and her b/f don't have kleptomania or any of the other mental disorders that cause people to steal and also are not tempted to steal. Don't need anymore problems than we already have! Lol

Unfortunately, so many people have not been honest at the self check out.
I live in Alaska and recently saw a person leaving self checkout have the wheels lock up. They are now doing that randomly at self checkout to make sure people are not stealing.
Personally, I never use self check out. No matter how long the line.

My nephew put his cell phone down while he was scanning his groceries at Wal-Mart. When he was finished he picked up his cell phone and put it in his pocket. They thought he was a shoplifter too! Blessings!
Be very careful at Walmart's self check or really any of the self checks! I read a story of a woman that was handcuffed and arrested at Walmart before she could even figure out what she had done wrong! Just like you, they had her on camera from above and she had to seek an attorney's help to represent her in court, and even though they dropped the case, it still cost her a pretty penny for her lawyer! They say a person should act very calm & deliberate as we check out and avoid laughing or goofing around! We don't live in the same world anymore unfortunately! Thanks for sharing!

Oh honey, I DID shoplift (albeit unknowingly) 2 zucchini last time I was at Walmart. I also did self checkout & at 75, that's kinda slow. I'v ben retired 12 years & didn't think it wud go well. I did ok & got everything bagged & out to th car. That's when I noticed th plastic bag w/zucchini still in th cart. I was hot & pooped from manual labor & getting hangry. So, even tho th good angel on my shoulder told me to go back, I turned a deaf ear & listened to my growling stomach. I went home. Still haven't fixed those zucchini. Now I REALLY feel guilty.
You are AMAZING. First of all, SEVEN kids. Yikes. My daughter has 5 & I thot that was a houseful. Compared to your wonderful & tasty meals & my family's meals, I feel like Marie Antoinette. We are definitely going to scale back on what & how we purchase & prepare.

Yeah, the Missouri Ozarks have a lower cost of living than other areas of the country, but that means that we also get paid a lot less!!! :)
Many years ago, my dad married his 2nd wife after the death of my mother. They had 12 kids (hers (new wife. now his ex), his- me, my brothers, and sister) and they had one together. I don't know how they made it work, but they did. Even though your situation is not that, I salute you for being a fantastic mother, having an older daughter who reminds me of my older sister and how she took care of us and helped with household chores (cooking and such), and being a role model for other mothers. My kids are grown and gone and I have grandbabies, but I again, salute you. :) Have a great Sunday.

I cannot imagine just - BOOM - having 11 or 12 children in a family and figuring out how to function! That would definitely take some awesome time management skills! :)

I have read about a female attorney is against the scanning your own check outs. So, Janice you are super blessed.
Tip when buying 🥑 is to look for the long ones they have a smaller seed. The round ones have a bigger seed.
Yes, i used yeast 40 years ago to keep fleas off my cats and dogs. They loved it.

I am excited for these "solving theft in stores" measures! Theft raises prices! For those of us who spend hard earned money be thankful for the cameras and receipt checkers and in store security. My blood boils when i see someone stealing or trying to scam the "system". I know it is an inconvience but if we haven't done anything wrong it should only take a minute or two to clear any problem up.
The cost of the small bottle of shampoo and conditioner was a lot of money when on a budget, I don't think Azure really save us money I have shopped around and found a few things cheaper. If you keep all your onion skins freeze dry them put them in the blenda you have great onion powder.

Ack, Sherry, you know I hate spending too much money on things!! I am a little picky on the dish soap because we primarily use it to wash up our dairy cow, Daisy, and I don't want to strip her skin of oils. So I don't want to anything like Dawn and I want to avoid artificial fragrances/colors as well. If I can find a better deal on that type of dish soap, then I would be EVER SO THANKFUL!!!! :)

If it's like alot of Arkansas and Missouri towns no going to these stores is part of life and you work it into shopping. It's worth the trip considering the other stores are so high so stocking up and freezing ,drying just makes sense especially those onions

We don't have an Aldi but we do have a 10 Box and Kroger. I have never been to 10 Box because it's kind of in a sketchy part of town, but I may try it!
Yes yeast keeps fleas and ticks off of dogs and cats they don’t like the smell of yeast so they don’t attach to dogs and cats
We have Walmart, Kroger, Aldi and Publix in my Northern Alabama area. Publix is the most expensive . I usually only need to go to Aldi and , Kroger and Walmart. It’s just me and my husband so we don’t have a huge grocery list .
We had that at Walmart when they girst cane out with the self checkouts. Since then it hasn't happened and i think they disabled the cameras on the machines from picking it up as it got so aggravating. Thanks for sharing!

Wow , expensive shampoo and conditioner for such small containers.
Had that happen to me at Walgreen's when I had an older $20 bill. Took me to the Managers office and they called the police. They saw the mo eye and asked if I had other money to pay my bill which I did. Let me go. Went to my bank. They wrote a letter to the Manager that the bill was real but got no apology when he read it. At another discount store, they went through my purse saying someone saw me put stuff in it. Patted me down. I emptied my pockets and my purse in front of them. No apology there either. Feel sorry for anyone that goes through this. I wouldn't take anything from anyone. Sorry about that.
I've never shopped at Walgreen's and after reading this, it's doubtful that I ever will. My son works at CVS as front end supervisor and has actually witnessed people putting expensive items in the pockets and walk out the front door. Corporate states the employees can not and will not stop anyone who has been seen shoplifting no matter what. My son said the real slap in the face is when they turn around and come in expecting a cash refund for the item they just shoplifted.

Azure standard flour is quite expensive, I am surprised you pay that sort of money for flour, especially if you’re not independently wealthy.
My family's health is important to me! I may not be able to afford everything organic, but I do try to make the best choices I have with the budget I have to work with. We are not destitute and we are not on the verge of starvation. I share these videos to show that you can still eat well and relatively healthy on a lower budget.
That happened to me at Walmart scanned my groceries and the cashier walked over and accused me of not scanning a small melon I finally got her to shut up long enough to look at the receipt. She just turned and walked off no apology necessary I guess.

You need to move to Oregon, lol! Our son works at Walmart and they're not even allowed to stop shoplifters. They can _ask_ them to stop but if they keep walking there's nothing they can do. The police won't even come out if it's under $1000! Absolute insanity... and they wonder why the crime rate is going up and everyone is moving, including us!

I'm actually a little surprised at the shampoo and conditioner purchases as they're kind of pricey (no judgment - I know you guys like to save and buy on sale.) Just wondering if those are products you buy no matter what cost (like the Puffs lotion-based tissue, etc.) based on personal preference? Just curious. :)
I’m really sorry you were suspect to shoplifting….I don’t like that if it was in front of your kiddos? But maybe a good teaching moment? I don’t know. I JUST had this happen to me at self checkout yesterday and it really got my anxiety increased for the day ( and even today) even though it was a misunderstanding!?

How do you keep all the vegetables from not over ripening until you use them the next week? When I purchase fresh fruit/vegetables I have to use them in a couple of days or they get overripe.
I haven't had too much trouble with that, Marlene! I try to plan them into our meal rotation before they spoil. Of course, we also have a large family, so we can really consume quite a bit of food in no time! :)
Let me know how you get the liquid out of the big dish detergent container. I ordered one and can't figure it out.
I know it's tricky, Debbie!! Shawn and Andrew figured it out though. They used a channel lock pliers to twist off the big cap. Then they just picked it up and carefully poured it into a 5 gallon bucket with a pump on top. I keep that bucket with pump under my kitchen sink. We refill a smaller soap container from the 5 gallon bucket pump. I do wish it just came in a 5 gallon bucket to begin with! :)
I’d gotten nutritional yeast at Walmart (but then was too afraid of it to use it 😳). Is it as healthy as Azure Standard? More expensive?
Unfortunately, these stores have to deal with brazen theft going on everywhere.
I do not have a problem being checked because I understand what stores are dealing with. It sure seems as if people aren't as honest as they used to be.
Most stores allow criminals to do what they do and we have to pay for their actions through higher prices.

It’s too bad those store cameras say you’re guilty until proven innocent. You sure do go to the penny with your budget. You should do videos on meals you make to stretch the budget, especially now when you’re on budget lockdown. I’ve seen other UA-camrs purchase from Azur Standard and it’s whatever suits you but I think they’re a bit pricey.
