- It's time to restock the pantry! I typically have $1100 to provide all of our food and household needs for our family of NINE for the month, but this month things are a little different. I'm committed to spending only $400 out of pocket this month! I've carefully planned out where to shop and what prices are the best. I've studied the sale ads and I know which stores have the best prices. Today's shopping comes from 10 Box, Aldi, Kroger, and Wal-Mart. Later in the month, I'll make purchases from Sam's Club and Azure Standard. Come see the supplies a large family needs to live off of for a month!

You probably already considered this, but I'd like to mention that I haven't had to buy toilet paper in years. I have a cheap and easy-to-install bidet fixture attached to my toilet. You can still use the toilet in the normal way, even if you don't turn on the bidet. My bottom gets washed every time I use the bathroom, so I am always fresh as a daisy. I have a dedicated stash of hand towels for drying afterwards. If I had a big family like yours, I would have color coded towels on a personal hook for each person old enough to understand how to use it. And a dedicated hamper for these for laundering purposes. I love your channel.
Sweet Janice, how I enjoy seeing all your videos as I’m a disabled widow in her mid 60’s who lives vicariously through your type of lifestyle. You’re a tremendous blessing and inspiration to this community.

Walmart price matches, so if you’re seeing cheaper at aldis ( and I believe ANY grocery store), show them the paper (or your phone) .
This would, in turn,allow you to get all you need (from these type of grocery stores) in one place AND save gas from skipping a stop that you’d usually make to get those deals at another store that you could just price match while you’re still at Walmart 😊

We have 5 acres (my first time living my life dreaming of owning any acreage at all, let alone enough for a small farm!) we’re slowly growing it up and eventually I aim to self sustain for AT LEAST half of the year.
A fox just took out 6 of our 8 laying hens AND our rooster. So I have to start all over with our layers 😢 and that’s a huge hit

We stock up as much as we can on sales.Just recently, been purchasing grass fed beef and organic fruits and veggies. As a Christian, it’s so good in this time to see a family like yours. @susanjoc I’m from Grand Rapids, Michigan although when I got married my late spouse moved me out to the country. I feel like ZsaZsa Gabor on Green Acres, but slowly getting used to it. I’m dealing with a litany of issues but mostly Congestive heart failure and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, although never smoked. I’ve had several set backs requiring hospitalization but now under a great team of doctors. Continued therapy to deal with depression and loss of identity as I once was a Registered Nurse who worked in variety of ICU.
You really make me want to clean out and organize my fridge and pantry and start deal hunting! I am single and I’m my 30’s and just don’t think about the prices enough…but you inspire me!

I live right in your neck of the woods and you do an excellent job utilizing the available grocery stores. I am impressed that you have a really good balance of healthy food and fun food. Homemade ice cream is the best.

Oh Brooke, I know I NEED to bite the bullet and make cheese, but I'm so intimidated by it! I felt the same way about the pressure canner. Sarah and I finally built up the nerve to tackle pressure canning and I know we will try making cheese at some point too. Just give me time to work out all my anxieties over it! 😉

I love your page I’m a young mom of 2 we are a family of 4 & I have been trying to budget so much because inflation has just been doing it’s thing these videos are just so soothing to see. I come from a large family and it’s tough for everyone out here even the working class. Rents high, bills keep piling up and groceries are getting higher it’s crazy out here.

Wished we had all those😢 stores to choose from. Our prices would be different but i would think they would be better. We have a wal mart but its not a supper store. They do have food and clothingbut it is small. They allso have a pharmacy.I do include there flyer when checking to see where I can find what I need for less.😊
Hi, Janice. I really like when you share your grocery hauls. I enjoy seeing what you buy and what you pay. It's so interesting. Yesterday, my husband and I went to Walmart to do some grocery shopping. There's just the 2 of us as our 3 children are in their own homes. We spent $122.95. I live in Illinois ... 30 miles from Chicago, so you have to figure that into how much things cost.But a few examples are: Land O Lakes butter (4sticks)-4.98/ Tums-4.88/1/2 gal milk-3.18/1 pkg hamburger buns-2.68/ 5lb bag clementines-4.98 ... just a sampling, taxed @ 8.75%. Gasoline was 4.15 gal of which .50 is taxes. We get our meat from Jewel which is pricey but there's just the 2 of us. I don't do price comparisons and I should. Living here in Ill is costly. I envy your shopping skills and your prices. Thank you so much for showing me a better way. Toni
Oh Toni, I know our locations are going to cause our prices to differ, but I still cringed at your cost! I saw butter at Aldi for $3.19 a pound and the hamburger buns were $1.29 a package. I admit to not being knowledgeable on milk prices since I don't buy that anymore now that we have Daisy to provide us milk! 😉 Maybe you can console yourself with the fact that your cost of living may be higher than ours, but salaries are probably also proportionally higher as well. Hopefully, it all works out in the end! 💕

What a blessings those gift cards are! I’m with you on only getting Daisy cottage cheese. I only use them for sour cream too for the same reason.

I love watching your grocery hauls. I stock up on taco shells and some flour tortillas at Dollar Tree. Most stores here are pushing $3 for a box of shells, so I can't beat that $1.25 at Dollar Tree. I stopped buying shredded cheese from Walmart because the quality and flavor has gotten really bad like a lot of things have since the pandemic. I now but the big bags at Sam's when I can the chance. If I'm not near a sam's I buy a name brand like Kraft or Krogers brand isn't bad.

Looks like a great haul! Be careful of the different toilet paper brands... not all are created equal, and you may end up using more than buying the more expensive brand. We love the Sam's Club brand

Hi Eileen - always glad to see your name in the comments! Shawn pretty much leaves all the decision-making for our homeschooling up to me. I will sometimes ask him for input, but I pretty much handle all of it. Also, I feel like I've had just about every kind of birth there is! I've had medicated hospital births, hospital births without pain meds, homebirths, and even a couple c-sections. I figure, one of these days, there will be a video about all the different birth stories for the children. They're definitely all unique! 😉

You can also get a tax write off on any groceries you use for you tube cooking recipe videos. So if you video tape them with the ingredients, thats your receipt you could use tax time to prove it. Save your receipts.

@@pennynickels5216 Yes. You can't write all your groceries. Only the ones you use for the videos. I did ask someone who has a large family on you tube if she can write her groceries. She said she asked and they said no, but could do so only on food she uses recipes for her channel.
Hi Janice! You are such a sweet person and really are an inspiration to everyone trying to make ends meet with the rising grocery prices. I shop at different stores also to take advantage of sales. They call this cherry picking. It’s the best way to save money. Btw I don’t understand 10Box. Why do they advertise a sale item and then add 10%? It doesn’t make sense to me. Why not just advertise the price with the additional 10%? It’s like false advertising.

I find your videos encouraging. I have started to look at our local grocery stores for sales on loss leaders. They are few and far between. Our "Big Cities" are at least 2 1/2 hours away so we don't go there at all unless it's to the children's hospital. Sorry, I'm rambling, just wanted to say thank you for your encouraging videos.

Hi Janice! It's Andrea from Croatia. You said you get excited when when you get good deals. I get excited when you have a new video on, they are very interesting and wish you could make more but with your large family and homestead not possible. Shopping here in Croatia is entirely different than in the states. Half of the items I love not available, like bacon, anything pumpkin especially creamer, cranberries they do not have them here.Also strawberries and blackberries very hard to come by. Check the price comparison of a big #10 cans of fruit, mandarin, pears peach’s etc and tomato sauce from Sam’s club, I can generally get the cheapest there and then I recan into my own canning jars…

We have 10 Box here in NWA and we got here for the sales also.
I use All Free & Clear Liquid from Sams. I do not use the recommended amount per load. I use maybe half and my clothes are clean. I try to stock up when it is on sale. Have you tried Aldi high protein bread? It is a little expensive but goes a long way with only one person eating it. I store mine in the freezer. It is good toasted, a little spongy not toasted. I eat it with fried egg and avacado. I have zero jump in my blood sugar with it. I can also eat Aldi's carb smart tortillas if I want a wrap.
I love the siete chips. I have type 2diabetes and not only are those chips my favorite tortilla chips but they don’t raise my blood sugar like regular chips do.

We wanted bacon and that was a good price at “10 box” - it was a dollar cheaper for the 40 ounce there than Walmart for a 24 ounce of the same brand.

We like the chicken sausages....I have a few recipes that I use them with. We don't eat red meat for health reasons.
