Monty for president! What a legend steering the windsurfing tech for such a lomg time! As soon as I can afford to buy a new equipment, the lomg lasting loft sails will be on my shopping list! Thank you! Take care & hang loose, Monty and Ben! ❤
Thank you for such a wonderful comment:)
Thank you so much for al those years of hard work and development Monty..
Thank you! It was a huge pleasure, learned alot! :)
Good Job Ben. Good made a Defi with no Wind, so you can do all this interviews. Thanks Monty, what a Legend! Looking Forward for the Podcast!
What a legend this man is.
I had the pleasure of a great chat with Monty in Gruissan.
The king of sails!
Best sails ever. Unbeatable.
Highly recommend!
Monty is a super nice guy. I met him in Tarifa when the team were testing and he suggested I take his kit out to try it. I couldn't believe it! A privilege!
The pioneers of Windsurfing
The shaman: Monty, definitely a podcast most wanted. Ihad the chance to meet Monty in his workshop in Tarifa. I was a young sailmaker back then and i used to completely unpicked old wave sails to template the loft curve and panel layout. Monty was really cool and show me his calculations books and some off his trick of trade. A true gentleman who continues to make massive contribution to sailmaking and windsurfing.
Monty is a total Legend. The ART Rad Wing was my very first sail. Got that in 1988 together with a Fanatic Lite Boa.
In the early 1990s I spent a number of holidays sailing at Lake Garda. There was a small shop in Torbole selling preproduction prototypes of the ART Blade. I was the proud owner of a 5.8 and 6.8 for many years. That's how long Monty has been using the "Blade" name for race sails.
I still believe Duotone made a huge mistake when they purchased Fanatic and changed the board brand to Doutone. The twats should have kept the Fanatic brand and rebranded the sails to ART Sails.
I agree so much with him about the monofilm.
Thank you aswell Monty for keeping up the windsurfing STOKE !🤙
remember my father sailing with a sail ART he's known for having invented the Cut Away , The Legend and great moment
This is a great insight. I rarely learn this much from a windsurfing video. Next time will consider Loft Sails for sure!
That was a really interesting joy to watch. Thanks Ben & Monty.
I do not know who’s better wether the Person or the proffesional. He is one of the big of the windsurf history.
Go Monty!!
Hi Monty....greetings from Hamburg!
absolute diamond interview!
Please get Monty on a podcast. That was very interesting. My next sails are going to be Loftsails I reckon. Longevity is a vision not many companies have these days. Double thumbs up.
I still remember the Cut Away! I was so excited when I read about it in the surf magazine and saw and touched it on the next exhibition. I felt it was groundbreaking. I was 14 years old, everything was so colourful and positive and progressive, I became a fan of Monty and of A.R.T. I was already in love with FANATIC at that time my board was a Viper, the board with the quattroconcave. (Hey, Duotone, here is a person WHO IS P*SSED because of letting the name die. Of course I was already p*ssed when they let A.R.T. die. They are a not minor part of my life!).
I really should get a bunch of The Loft Sails soon.
Monty, all the best! Ben, thank you for the great interview!
SO happy to watch this. Been a fan for so long.
Sailed ART sails all the way in my young years. LOVED my rad wing sooooo much as a kid
Love this guys energy , I own a couple of racing blades and they might not be the best performing sails but they can for sure take a beating or two 🤘🏼
i love my 2016 racingblade. feels like it will last for long compared to my newer sails that falls apart already after 3 yrs
You can tell the dude understands sail tech like no other. Beautiful! I will strongly consider loftsails for my future quiver
TOP 5 best videos of this channel for sure
What a legend, for me best sail designer, looking foward the podcast.
Fantastic interview," Just turned 65' , Still love my 7-5,6-6 02s 5-7 Lip, bought back in 2006, Twist off top, Sure allows you to power through over powering gusts', To retire these sails", would sure be sad day", Buying new ones, would be a "great day""😂
Amazing, monty is a legend
Wow, Monty is fab. so, so iNteresting . Great interview 👍
Hi Ben ,
Sorry you dont asked Monty about the Batten tension from the Front of the Mast … remember Patrik …?
Greetings and Keep on rocking
Maybe at the potcast …?
Yep.. I totally forgot! I had it in my head at the start but then forgot!
No worries ! Hope for Chat with Monty ….👍
Yes we installed tensioners on the batten front for a season or two. I like tensioner weight forward just behind the mast, the tensioner hiding in the mast pocket, and the cleaner, simple batten pocket rear end.
We abandoned this because of a few issues- way less accessibility to the tensioner; very difficult to adjust when the downhaul is loaded. Also, maybe more importantly, the long, stiff tensioner is quite loose around the tapered front end, it will not flex as does the tapered batten front end. The batten pocket rear end gains only a few mms of thickness with rear mounted tensioners, so aero gains of front mounted tensioners are minimal.
Top ! Thanks for that answer 🏅👍
So much knowledge. But so difficult to understand.
Nice vid
It's so cool to see these "legends" sharing their stories and knowledge. We all have heard of or read their names before and thanks to your videos, we can put a friendly face to their names. So thank you a lot for doing these interviews. And I agree, having a dedicated podcast for each of the hall of famers / manufacturers / R&D people would be great future content! ☺
Monty has such great passion for what he does, and so good to see a sail designer who cares not only about performance, but also about producing a priduct that lasts. Can't wait for the podcast, it's surprising that he hasnt been on already given his history.
legend, I still have a rad wing in my shed that I use on my mountainboard
I still use my 4,5m2 lip wave. I also used to wave an art race sail. Great sail designer.
Very nice interview. I liked the ART blades sails. Saw them first on the worldcup in Scheveningen. Impressive shape and mast bending then. I only find out last year Monty was the designer of ART. That makes Loftsails interesting for me.
Other nice thing. He just said it. Foiling is for old man. It’s a often heard joke on the beach these day’s. He just acknowledged it. Interesting…. The marketing boys will not like to hear that 🙈 but it’s tru.
Very good!👍
First board sainval no 1 sexy as he'll 17 kgs of throbbing love. Polyethylene. Oh yeah, monty is windsurfing blue blood up there with naish, carina, waltze masionville. I have a phantom for 2 years but never sailed it. It's my dirty little secret. Small money for a work of art. Couldn't afford concorde but happy out nonetheless. Will treat myself to a quiver of oxygen and they'll be better sails than I'm a sailor. Great episode Ben I'm going to watch it again. 👍
Switchblade is only for girls and kids racing? I guess this is also for 90% of all the recreational windsurfers which is your biggest potential market?!
Great sails, looking good!
I love my Switchblade, and pretty sure I'm neither a kid or a girl.
Awesome, thank you!
Monty to the podcast urgent!!!
Great video!!!! Thx
Love the interviews Ben! Especially the brand owners/designer like Monty, Patrik D , Patrice Belbeoch etc
Love these guys
Great video!
Perfect 👌🤙💪
Great stuff Ben!!
So nice person, so good to listen. By the way I was young but I hated those A.R.T. Cutaway 😂
I sailed Loft in The Gorge 2002-07. my 4.5 is 2008 the rest are 2002. I wore out 2 4.5s 2002 but used for spare batten parts. My 4.1 is almost shredded but 3.7 ok and 3.3 is v good shape. I left the gorge in late 00s and am a kiter now but I'm not ready to give up just yet but likely sooner than later
Still surviving?! Share some pictures with us if you have chance:)
@@Loftsails I could rig one today as 25-35 SE and it's already blowing on Lake Oahe Reservoir Missouri River South Dakota but likely am going to kite. IF I do rig one Where would I send the pics?
Is there a test facility in Tarifa? I am curious to feel the difference between the 5- and 4-batten wave sails. The fuchsia and green colourways are eye catching for sure!
Unfortunately, not yet. But it would be great if there was one:)
🤞🙏
You forgot to ask the reason why he dropped the front batten tensioners
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Crikey.....Ken Winner! Where is he these days?
ua-cam.com/video/qxgowIgKIdY/v-deo.html There he is
