The more I listen to Patrick the more I find him to be the most interesting windsurfer/influencer of this decade. This tour of Brands at Defi Wind has been awesome Ben, amazing work! I know moving forward I will explore new brands for me (NP for wave sails and Patrick for boards/foil). Great job boyz!

I could listen to Patrik talking gear all day. Passion and knowledge coming together.

Wow this was amazing!!! This is all super valuable info you dont easily pick up on your own or by just sailing at your local spot. I could listen to this for hours. His openness and him being willing to share with the community is also very admirable. Usually, brands are a lot more secretive, especially the ones doing well. Makes the brand very sympathetic and relatable.
It would be great if you could bring him back for a 2hr foil special or Patrik focused podcast! pretty please?
Edit: Thanks alot for this video!

One day defi wind all our surfcenter clinic group was invited to Patrik presentation. It was a very good tutorial on foil fin boards and sails, I am getting a lot of information.

Will never forget Patrick and Karin give me a lift to return to my car in the back of their pick-up truck in WA. Saved me some walking 😂. Great ambassador to the sport

Very passionate talker. I enjoyed and learned a lot even though i am not in windsurfing foil. I like my fins on my windsurf. I think setting up a foil is very complicated and it is off putting. I started wingfoil for low winds which is less complicated and cheaper.

Not in to foiling but the passion behind the product and the design is captivating. I think I will end up with Patrick gear in my quiver sometime.

I am not into foiling but saw the interview was with Patric, I had to watch. I met him at the walvisbay speed challenge in 2005. He is a very interesting fellow with tons of knowledge and he has now peaked my intrest in foiling.

I haven't used Foils yet but that was a good description of the same and how it compares to the primary Windsurfing designs, even though I feel that they wouldn't be suitable for the variety of wave jumps which can be performed on a wave-board.

I'm finding all of these interesting even though I have no interest in foiling. Patrik has done well. Looking forward to part 2 on the boards and sails today!

I was lucky enough to do some side by side foiling on my IQ Foil race gear while Patrik was testing the smaller Aeon foil wings last year. He was on something like a 550 and was absolutely screaming along while almost matching my upwind angles on the 900 IQ wing. If I wasn’t already racing IQ gear I’d definitely be looking at getting the Aeon race foil.

I don’t foil, probably never will, but this was fascinating. One question I still have about masts, though, is whether they have a role in forward drive. With a fin the lift is turned into forward drive, and presumably however much of the mast is in the water also produces drive. But perhaps that depends on yaw, and we know how baffling that can be 😉

I don't understand the fact that settings complicate foiling. Foiling is binary : you feel too 'up' or you feel too 'down'. So you find a setting to balance this fact. Once you have found the right balance you never touch your settings again.

    • @jmalina327

For freeride foiling it's more simple, for race foiling more complicated because people are trying to get as much speed while staying in control in different conditions. There are many tradeoffs as Patrick mentioned and riders have different mass, plus different board and sail brands

  • @future_horizon

This is pure foil science.....sounds interesting, but you need experience on the water to actually understand what is discussed here... aoen-foils definitely worth trying...the pricing would have been interesting though
