i bombed the fuck out of the "last" spellcard on my first survival with continues playthrough. I had no bombs for the last unexpected spellcard that I didnt know existed. I eventually died.
It took me long to understand why there's the Resurrection Butterfly, her true last spell card. According to the story, Yuyuko wants to resurrect a certain someone, whom she doesn't even know. The soul sealed inside the Saigyou Ayakashi (the Saigyou Cherry Tree) was hers from her human life, and she was so close to resurrecting herself by the 80% of completion of the bloom, that it permitted her to throw one last Spell Card. A last breath of power by her other self attached to the youkai tree.
@@AJD558 Well no, Yuyuko's profile refers to the amount carried by the player character as tiny. It would've just been a small boost to the collection process.
I've always interpreted it as the sealed (and dead) Yuyuko almost coming back to life and trying desperately to hold onto her life through the broken seal since the figure we see in the spell card is the sillhouette of Yuyuko, not the one we were fighting before.
The music synced with Resurrection Butterfly always gives me chills, especially right when the awesome part starts as time slows, the screen glows, and Yuyuko goes...away.
I have beaten all the main Touhou games except for the first two and out of all the boss fights, the fight against Yuyuko is the most epic one. She has one of the best music themes, the background graphics, scenery and her bullets are beautiful and Perfect Cherry Blossom has the cherry blossom petals which keeps falling off during the final fight, Touhou 7 and 8 are the only main games that a final boss spell with its own music.
This is one of the better final battles in the series. No matter how bad you are, no matter how you fast you kill her, the music will sync somehow, and the fade out at the end is amazing.
Yeah, I have to agree. The first time I cleared lunatic is actually on a run that I paused right at the end of stage 2 to go to lunch then class, joking with my roommate that "It didn't matter since I wouldn't beat it anyway." Of course then I get home, sit down, and clear lunatic (with no lives remaining of course.) I was dumbfounded. Moments like that are hard to come by in any other game!
I know this is atleast 10+ years ago, but the fight against Yuyuko has to be one of the most memorable ones. ZUN always drops epic games with epic plots, like Perfect Cherry Blossom, which, no matter the age, is always amazing and never getting boring. That is the catch of Touhou games. Once you play it/see a gameplay of it/hear the amazing soundtracks, you can't really forget it, can you? The fact the most replayed moment in this video is right when Yuyuko does the fabulously popular spell-card "Resurrection Butterfly" doesn't surprise me at all, that is when the fight just gets even more amazing, even with the music matching the fight. Easily part of my Top 5 favorite Touhou games. Something also really epic about Touhou games is that the soundtracks are always bangers, and the bosses have challenging spell cards, but when you defeat them, you always have a proud feeling of yourself, no matter how many bombs you will consume or lives lost, remember that you tried your best (unless you purposely didn't). The feeling of 1cc is also amazing, it's something everyone could achieve through practice, some people give up, but the time that has been spent is precious. Perfect Cherry Blossom is one of the many Touhou games which are simply fabulous, mesmerizing in their own. Some games may appear with a dislike, but even so, remember that everyone has their own tastes. You can't really go against one's opinion, even if you're really desperate for it. Perfect Cherry Blossom is a fair game with a great plot, a catch that is amazing, and the backstory behind Yuyuko is sad and hopeless, but that is what makes a character great: the great backstory, the great story and catch to them, and maybe the appearance in certain cases. And Yuyuko fulfills all of these tasks. ZUN truly deserves recognition, some people who are just like him end up being ignored by society, but ZUN didn't give up, did he? ZUN tries his hard, maybe even rushing some things, but that's fine. Then he's all happy, and enjoying a nice glass of beer. That's great, isn't it? People like him sometimes are simply never appreciated, due to them being a drunkard or whatever. Another catch to Touhou Project is the amazing number of how many characters there are so far. And one of them, you're surely gonna like them. Each character has their own amazing touch to them, and that's one of the many amazing things. Maybe you're gonna dislike someone due to the severe incident or whatever, but everyone has their own tastes, again. The amazing soundtracks, it's impossible to not like one. The endless possibilities are all in Touhou and also other things as well. That is Touhou Project for you. And not only that, ZUN created a whole world many people acknowledged about: Gensokyo. Before the last spell card. ( first time playing PCB ) I kept bombing just for fun because I thought I finished the game when her Health bar dropped to 0, I had 1 life, 0 bomb, suddenly, a song appeared while I was dancing in the midst of the screen. Yuyuko : hai, you didn't need that 1cc, did you ? Me : oh no it's fine, I've only spent like days trying to practice to reach you. OH SHIIII -
The music, the intensity, the... oh god just everything. This is the best moment in Touhou. No matter how many times I clear it that slowdown right at the end is still one of the most awesome feelings. Hourai Elixir comes very close, but given the backstory of PCB the final stage is unquestionably epic. It really is a do-or-die situation story-wise. Fantastic run SP, had me on tenterhooks at the end there, and congrats on your Lunatic 1cc!
Generally yes, but on the try where I managed to 1cc Lunatic, I had 1 hp and 4 bombs (allowing me to negate 9 waves of her butterflies, which is the exact amount of the waves she fires) so I just pretty much spammed her down without even trying to dodge
*reads comment, then remembers the time I thought I had defeated Yuyuko by bombing away the last spellcard... then running into Resurrection Blossom* That was on Easy, by the way, after I had used up all 3 continues and had no lives left. I didn't make it, needless to say.
@风见幽香 Your thinking of touhou 6 embodiment of scarlet devil, where the game ends after you beat sakuya on easy. I think this even happens with touhou 4 lotus land story.
Argh, I got a game over on Ressurection Butterfly when there was two seconds left! Somehow, even though I did not get the good ending, I was satisfied...
I heard that there should be a safespot in Resurrection Butterfly just to the right of the default starting point. Anyways, besides Eirin's and Kaguya's themes, Yuyuko's theme is the most epic boss theme in the series.
8:12 This moment lives in my head like a fever dream. I remembered the way the song ends, the screen full of clutter, the feeling of pure agitation. I was even trying to remember why the song matches the end of the fight so perfectly if you can defeat bosses before the time runs out... but not here. ZUN is a genius choreographer.
Wow! You are brave, if I were you I will just bomb through the last timeout spell... After beating for 6 stage I am not going to lose the chance to get 1CC... I started to play Touhou since Oct 2013, and I think I am getting closer to beat Touhou PCB 1CC on normal difficulty... I just beat Touhou IN 1CC on normal difficulty a few days ago for the first time... I think I just need to avoid mistakes... What to do, practice make perfect...
I once played PCB in the school library while we were supposed to be studying for our JPN finals. For some reason, playing this in public with others watching actually made me focus even more. I usually can't even beat Easy on any of the games on the first try, but that time I more or less "easily" got up to Yuyuko on Normal. Even I was surprised at some of the crazy shit I managed to pull off up to that pt. Then when I thought I'd beaten her, RESURRECTION BUTTERFLY POPPED UP AND I SHAT MYSELF!
Final stages in the Touhou games are what keep me going at night. Only game I know that even if I end up losing to the boss I'm not complaining because "That was such an epic fight" keeps running through my head as I slump down in my chair or against a wall. Then I have to clean the sweat off my Shift, Z, and X keys. =P Love the video, definitely subscribing. Annotations always make the video more personal than just a replay of a replay. ;P
@waalkwriter It makes you move more slowly, which gives you finer control over actions. Really that's where practice helps, so that you can close the gap between knowing where you want your character to go and actually getting your character there.
I got one too, recently. Touhou 7 was my first Touhou and the only one I've beaten in all difficulties, so I played it a lot. After beating all the others Touhou games, I felt like playing it again, and when I noticed I haven't died or used a bomb during the first 4 levels, I decided to try and 1cc and I did. It is my only "real" 1cc (Because the only other one is Touhou 15, because PointDevice mode), so it felt really good, even though I practically have the game memorized already
I finished this yesterday playing normal, I was on my last live, no bombs, no more continues. I couldn't believe I actually finished it, my soul came back to me because I swear I wasn't myself when playing that last part.
@@lexrilrideout1757 Because every fandom is horribile one way or another, I gave up on looking upon fandoms Long ago, I love toyhou and the fandom is ok, but still bad
Nah imho it's way harder. I'm trying to 1cc hard and as it turns out some of the alignments are really annoying to dodge. In addition, while the spirals on easy require you to go between spirals, the bullets move slowly and give you more time to line up. But the prismrivers definitely get easier after normal.
It was very pleasant to watch. Also you have godlike reflexes on some spellcards... I usually do these kind of moves randomly and still die afterward. I would've seriously freaked out at half the stuff you went through. O_O; Woah. With the bullets getting that close... I normally get really fidgety and end up flying right into one. I see what you mean about how games other than Touhou 6 have smaller hitboxes though. I remember playing PCB a lot and going "that should have killed me, for sure!" since I was used to EoSD
So this is where Bayonetta gets her butterfly from.she maid a deal with yuyuko the she will summon any of yuyuko butterflies for her attack, and in return she will feed dead angels to yuyuko.
@omgiownzizzleu Resurrection Butterfly isn't really all that hard, the first way of blue and purple butterflies come in lines that you can easily get through but the trouble is with the red butterflies because of the way they shoot, angled. It's overwhelming at first but you can get used to it.
@JapanForSale Me and my classmate were screaming "OH GOD! RESURRECTION BUTTERFLY!!!" under our breaths, it was amazing how we didn't get kicked out of the library especially with the Reference Desk being right behind us. XD Then I somehow managed to survive those full 40+ seconds by carpet bombing and running out what few lives that I've somehow racked up from the very beginning. It was literally down to the last live and the last 2 seconds at the end, and I still managed to get through.
@SadisticPenguinOfAND But that's holding the shift key down right? I have to do that with my middle finger which makes it difficult to do up down maneuvers.
@e22big Well, the trick there is that in Imperishable Night you can play against a harder version of that same attack in spell practice... I spent over 4000 tries timing that one out (In HD Last Words Timed Out 3) and so I can do this easier form now pretty much on autopilot.
@WoWMyrrh No-penalty is always 3. Also, quite a number of people don't really consider an 1cc to be "true" if it's beaten at max lives, especially if the final live count is less than whatever the difference between 3 and max lives is.
For some reason this is exactly the same as the normal difficulty fight... wouldn't be the first time a stage 6 boss was the same from normal to lunatic.
@Kirbymar96 I'd like that, but there are some games I'm just not good at. In return, I'm a natural at RPGs and hack 'n' slay games. I'm also generally happy enough if I only manage to get a good ending in a Touhou game, and I don't care too much about the scoring or difficulty. I don't know why, but I always overlook a bullet here or there and fly straight into it. I mostly have problems with patterns that are either random or require moving through narrow gaps.
@SadisticPenguinOfAND The second-to-final bosses in Touhou games always like to be the hardest, somehow (aside from Extra, of course), and it seems to be something most fans have picked up. Even most of the fanmade games I've played follow the rule of having the second-to-final boss be the hardest boss in the game, like Labyrinth of Touhou or Touhouvania II.
@Kirbymar96 Oh yeah, I hate those, too. Essentially, I dislike all kinds of patterns that move too fast to read properly and force you to memorize instead.
Ahh man you should feel victorious. I barely finished 7 on normal and felt accomplished in life. I don't even care there is hardcore, lunatic, ultra patch and that people do these three perfect pacifist no-focus and whatnot with an eyepatch on their right eye and their left eye just done with a stabbing session. I felt good about myself =D
@SadisticPenguinOfAND Really? Oh wow. Thanks. That makes things a lot simpler! I've beaten the game on normal, but I'm trying to get to where I can beat it without continues.
@Kirbymar96 For me, it's always the same spots where I die. For example, in PCB, I ALWAYS die A LOT against Youmu. The slomo always completely screws me up, I just can't ever seem to remember when it starts and when it ends. Generally, I find the Stage 5 bosses in Touhou games to be the worst of the lot. Usually, the first three stages aren't even worth talking about, the stage 4 bosses are somewhat challenging, and I usually manage OK on the final bosses, but stage 5 bosses ALWAYS slaughter me.
Yuyuko's last spellcard took me off guard when i first fought her.

It was literally down to the last live and the last 2 seconds at the end, and I still managed to get through.
Wow, excellent job sir! Especially on Resurrection Butterfly!
Looks like imperishable night on easy
epic dude
@Kirbymar96 In PCB? You mean those spinning thingies that spew tons of really fast bullets at you?
I've tryed to change yuyuko theme to jotaro theme
And holy shit its synced especially with her village of self-loss [suicide]
@SadisticPenguinOfAND But that's holding the shift key down right? I have to do that with my middle finger which makes it difficult to do up down maneuvers.
@e22big Well, the trick there is that in Imperishable Night you can play against a harder version of that same attack in spell practice... I spent over 4000 tries timing that one out (In HD Last Words Timed Out 3) and so I can do this easier form now pretty much on autopilot.
At the very end I gasped so very hard. I thought you were about to get hit right before the capture.
Dont take it the wrong way,but it gives me joys knowing that you to had had difficulty in this level on lunatic =)
2009, 60 fps....wait
it's like if I don't get hit by Youmu's first two barrages of her nonspell I'll instantly go to a bad ending. :|
*reads comment, then watches own replay of Easy mode with 7 deaths*
Tears fucking sprung out of my eyes
Do keep in mind that she takes reduced damage from her fan. Also Marisa-B can shoot at both her and her fan for extra damage.
Greatest fight for me
@SadisticPenguinOfAND The second-to-final bosses in Touhou games always like to be the hardest, somehow (aside from Extra, of course), and it seems to be something most fans have picked up.
Resurrection Butterfly still haunts me
Ahh man you should feel victorious.
@JohnForn No idea. I wasn't really going for anything pretty here, just a clear... I could certainly do better if I tried.
@SadisticPenguinOfAND Really? Oh wow. Thanks. That makes things a lot simpler! I've beaten the game on normal, but I'm trying to get to where I can beat it without continues.
Resurrection Butterfly -80% Reflowering-
A.K.A. My Face-Melting Minigun in Team Fortress 2
I always think of the last spell as if though I am fighting the tree rather then Yuyuko
when you spend 3 months 12 days on pcb and you still haven't finished a 1cc run on normal, probably because i ended up not playing half the time.
So you're fighting a gluttonous ghost that shoots a rainbow of butterflies at you and has a sword weilding gardener. Right o_o
Wow its just like in the anime!!!
Usually, the first three stages aren't even worth talking about, the stage 4 bosses are somewhat challenging, and I usually manage OK on the final bosses, but stage 5 bosses ALWAYS slaughter me.
jeez and i thought Ikaruga and G Daruis were bad... this is definitely bullet HELL
@SadisticPenguinOfAND Does focusing in your characters (hands?) help in this tight situations? How do you do that and still move so easily?
