To explain a bit as a designer.
There are three different elements to the implementation of vertical trees.
1.) To make the game more digestible to new people - instead of overwhelming them with dozens of different guns, attachments ammunition types, it's much easier to approach it the same way real military does - need to know basis and step-by-step. By "greying out" the items they don't need to concern themselves with it improves the flow of the interaction and makes the (already STEEP learning curve smoother a bit). That is the reason why camo/olive variants of guns are on a different rank then the base guns - it's just cosmetics, no need to create some illusion of choice.
2.) Gameplay flow progression, especially in early game and with relation to supplies. It's entirely fine for community servers (which can be gated) to allow for Heli's and Armored transports and similar high cost items to be freely accessible - as the people there, presumably, are much more communicative and willing to cooperate and think of the "good of the team".
On public servers, the progression means that player has to invest themselves (and their time) into the match to be allowed with the expensive cool toys - so they hopefully care more about the effect their actions have on the game. Otherwise we would see people join in, spam armed Helis until bases run out of supplies and then switch server.
It is no accident that Delivering supplies is one of the best ways to rank up quickly.
3.) There is also connection to future feature which I can't disclose yet because it's not ready (Wait for Klamacz to spoil that)

Can you watch his one spawn video as well? Please create an option for servers where you can't spawn in an area you died. There is a lot of us who just want spawns at main but I doubt it will be liked by majority. There should be an option and I think it will be so easy to implement

    • @catfunt5583

Have you ever considered a system of “allowance”, where depending on rank, depends on how much allowance you receive per unit time. (Say 50 supply/minute for pvt)
How much allowance a player has saved up determines how many supplies they can spawn, if Pvt spawns in with 100 allowance, and is at a base with 1000 supplies, he can use 100 of that bases supplies to spawn vehicles and gear, until his allowance ticks over and grants him access to more resources.
This would incentivise players to choose their gear carefully (not bring 10 million mags) and not waste vehicles/helis, as it, in effect, comes out of their own pockets, while still allowing logistics gameplay to have an affect on the match.

problem with the armory is that people need to keep recreating their kit from game to game, server to server. They need to have local save system for loadout, and yes before you tell me I know ArmA 3 had the exact system in place with the ArmA Arsenal connected to your user profile. They should implement it in reforger to save players time re kitting which should also speed up the learning process of the fact that each item within your kit has a cost for the team.

The problem with the armory though isn’t people spiting other players by digging up the armory. It’s for the team’s well being. I’ve noticed that when a match has more players calling on the armory for their custom kits it diminishes supplies. Time is one issue but really the resources limit attaching power because then the side which invests into vehicles and gets to points faster wins.

“The team agrees to X” will not work on a drop-in drop-out public server. Just making things expensive will absolutely lead to you own team screwing itself, like building an Armoury on round start. If there is a constant supply of new players, you will never get a good experience.

    • @TheOtherOtherAccount
      @TheOtherOtherAccount 3 дні тому +3

Yeah - Caracal is talking about the game as some sort of utopia where there are no selfish people, and the average IQ of the players increase over time to some amazing new highs
That just isn’t the case. There’s a relatively low level of play that will be achieved in pub matches with experienced players leaving the game while new players come in. The game will stagnate there and never improve strategically in pubs. You see this in squad.
This utopian discussion ignores the fact that game design informs player choice. If you remove rank limits on valuable items, you devalue the logistics needed to rank up quickly.
The current system strongly encourages people to run logi so they can rank up and unlock the fancy vehicles.
Remove this, and you’ll see FAR too many people spawning expensive vehicles at horrible moments and costing the team 180 spawns at that base (1800 supply at 10 supply per spawn).

Frankly, the issue comes down to a lack of ownership. Players blow loads of supplies on useless junk & abandon vehicles because they feel no ownership or responsibility over their entire team's supplies. Currently, there is no reason to feel responsible for assets such as weapons, equipment, or vehicles.
In real-life, you are issued what you are issued, and take ownership over such assets. Ergo, you make them work until they completely fall apart. If your squad's HMMMV blows a tire-tough luck, you're replacing it. If your gun jams, you're fixing it. If players had some reason to feel ownership over their equipment, I feel it would create a much more realistic environment and solve supply drain.

    • @Jord2123
      @Jord2123 3 дні тому +3

But how can you do ownership? Best way to to lock certain weapons either behind high ranks or have a special class system that limits it and if you lose it someone else will have it and not you. Until they lose it but then tking will be a problem because people like to steal in games when they don’t have the powerful stuff.

I think of a order system would work well here(with the highest ranking player responsible for ordering all equipment elected by the players team)
For example the elected commander will select what equipment is available in the carpool. and he is responsible for managing the supply. The process can have a que system similar to RTS games where the commander can order stuff in bulk when supply is available.(This way the commander has some real control over his team by controling its supply line)
If no player is elected commander the system returns to work as Normal.
If a commander is elected players can request equipment that will require an approvel by the commander
The commander can for example request a squad to attack a spacific location and it gets provided with some high grade equipment to be able to do the job.
This system would also encourage more communication between squad leaders and the commander and potentially more squad play.
Granted this would only work this way with the supply in the main base any supply that is transfered from the main base is free for the players to use as they see fit(the commander only controls the main base supply system)

I have mixed feelings on this.
I want heli’s and armor to be restricted because they cost a lot of supplies. I don’t think someone who’s in capable of ever reaching lieutenant should be able to spawn a 1k+ supply heli.
I don’t really think armor spam will be an issue because you can’t effectively one man a BTR , heli spam will totally be an issue. And heli’s can effectively be one maned but are way harder then driving, so lower/no rank requirements mean thousands of supply will be wasted by noobs who don’t know how to fly and/or people using them as disposable transport like we do with other Vic’s.
The tutorial is where you’re supposed to practice flying, not in conflict.
I totally agree with the supply type thing. As you load up at a supply cache you should have to choose the mix like in squad. I know this would encourage me to only bring construction until every point we have is fully built up.

Digging up armories on the frontline is a great way to keep those points. If (when) the enemy will capture them, they won't be able to spawn that much of offensive-specialized geared up players. And for the defence, you don't really need a lot of gear, just the stock one and good reflexes.
So it's not to deny your teammates from *fun*, it's to deny your enemy from winning.
This is also a critical thing to do in a certain points on the map that are often contested.

I can’t help to go on an autistic rant. But it’s very frustrating when you see players straight up brag about saving 250+ loadouts, and always relying upon either well experienced players or a bunch of players in one place to do the heavy lifting.
I believe this enables herd mentality. I can think of at least three reasons why this is bad for new players and old alike:
    1) if a majority of one team (let’s say 15-20 players) is concentrated in one area, just a handful of players on the opposing team (or even less) can easily keep them there.. While the rest of the opposing team can quickly capture command outposts with little to no resistance from the other team.
    2) this promotes new players to build other bad habits such as: Running blindly into a non promissive environment (because of the false security of having numbers of players pushing up)
    3) jumping into another groups vehicle and making expecting them to go “ into the action”. This one especially aggravates me, when a group I’m in is trying to sneak behind enemy lines to cause chaos and potentially slow their progress. But you have some random 300 load out player not following their group, decides to tag along and argue to your group leader about why we need to go straight “into the action”.
And if someone replies with: “I have a life, I can’t take the time to learn a game because meh patience”. Then this game is not for you and you just wasted your time trying to screw in a 3in penny nail with a screwdriver. Go play call of duty or whatever legacy fps is on sale.
Now about high load outs. I can understand grenadiers. As a player who always plays on the US team. I can, take a 16 with the M203, optics isn’t a factor half the time, ditch the standard lbv and pasgt vest for the grenade vest, Load her up with x12 40mm DP/HE and 3 of each flare, m9 with two spare mags, and one extra tourniquet and morphine injector. Then take the rest of the gear out of the standard lbv and save with no more than 150 to 190. If I carry anymore than that, I can’t sprint. (Because that’s a lot of gear, herb ba derb.) But if you’re trying to run around with the arsenal on your back, then why don’t you just stay out of the way and be a group’s mule? Do you really need all that stuff for yourself? Get mad at me all you want, but if I ask you what all you’re carrying and I knock out you out and grab your pack then throw it in a trunk. Just know I will sell it all to a nearby arsenal. It triggers the tisms my dude ngl.

Nah i’ve dug down many, most nearly all og players dig down and funnily the new players are catching on and i’ve seen them now dig down arsenals at front mobs (more so arland) because the amount of times supplies are run to build the base up and they are all gone before you even get back. Then it repeats until you dig it down. Other new players are starting to understand this a are now as you say ‘punishing’ their other fellow new players. There are a few stubborn players who i’ve seen with 200+ kits and as much as you tell then nicely they are burning supplies for everyone they don’t care and just carry on. Its literally became a server agreement to dig down unwanted arsenals. I seen people try build 3 at a base before not only wasting supps with kit but with copy cat arsenals. Sadly the influx in new players compared to og players atm is wild so a lot of these new players have been playing for weeks and not learnt anything because they are following the other ps5 player who also doesn’t know what they are doing. I’ve helped many but there are loads of players who tk you, swear, rude etc when you try help them with the game. So i don’t and others don’t have patience with these people

I really like the ideas presented in the video. The game is huge and can feel overwhelming for new players, but the beauty of modding is that we can try out new concepts and actually integrate them. One example would be to increase the cost of vehicles while making repairs and maintenance cheaper. This is allready the case but tbh it could be a litte bit more extreme to showcase the importants of vehicles on the battlefield. I hate the fact that one single guy spawns in a vehicle and wastes it in the next minute.
To give ranks more significance, we could limit the resources you can spend on equipment and weapons. As you move up in rank, you’d be able to allocate more points toward better gear or spawn higher-value vehicles, NPCs, or even a helicopter. Something that is allready implemented but not that detailed.
On top of that, supply runs could become a quick way for lower-ranked players to level up. Once you reach, say, rank 3, the progression gained from supply runs could decrease, while capturing bases and marking objectives on the map grants more points. This would encourage new recruits to handle the “busy work” and still feel like they’re making a real contribution. It also spares them from diving into high-stakes combat right away, especially if they’re unfamiliar with the server or the overall battle structure.
Just some ideas. But tbh. I wouldnt change to much right now - I believe Bohemia is still working on this economie part, because they introduce the commander role. And im curious if its somekind of gamemaster view over the battlefield when you play as a commander. That could be very awesome with somekind of fog of war and what not :D

At the start, everything a company historically had is loaded into the harbor. Nothing else is brought in for the whole match. Nothing de-spawns either. FIA weapons can also be found. Local vehicles do not respawn. When ammo runs out, it's bayonet charge time. Have fun.

Rank trees and economy based gates have been there ever since Warfare in ArmA 1 which "Conflict" is based on. It's a proven standard and game factor in ArmA. It's also a balancing factor and driver in progression. While you maybe new to ArmA, Warfare CTI and other strategic game modes worked well with the tech tree. Other game modes like Domination, Evolution, and others with rank structures were well proven. Trust, if used by the scenario designer correctly there's a good balance. This comes from a scenario designer that has built many balanced scenarios for ArmA and successful communities in the past.

Dont drive on roads, plan your route in advance to avoid obvious ambushes and areas where the enemy are likely to intercept you as you approach, take a circuitous route towards the target that the enemy will be unlikely to anticipate, dismount troops away from the target, if you are using a vehicle with a weapon park it atleast 300m away from the target and fire from that position, dont drive with lights on at night, if you absolutely must enter an area quickly gain as much speed as you can then put the vehicle in neutral and turn off the engine so you can approach relatively quietly for the last 200m or so. Any of these tactics will reduce the likelihood of losing a vehicle in combat.

You overestimate people, if rank requirements were removed and large vehicles were available from the start, hordes of console gamers would spawn BTRs and LAVs and just throw them at the enemy without infantry support. And they won't learn anything from it because if they got bored they could just hop on another server and repeat the process. People already do that with their loadouts, I often kill people and find they have an M60, M21 and 10 boxes of ammo in their backpack, and no one ever seems to learn because it keeps happening all the time

Trust me - if we take squad as an example, where we constantly have a brain drain of experienced players leaving while new ones join, you do NOT want to design things around some imaginary future where the Reforger players all (on average) learn the mechanics enough to stop wasting supplies on the front.
New players building an armoury on the front line is a great way to sink the match - IMO the armoury building should be locked to Corporal or something.
You also seem to lean on this ethereal “realism” where you want people free to do what they want how they want - but that just isn’t “realistic” at all.
An individual choosing to bankrupt a FOB for their personal hedonic pleasures isn’t exactly how the military works. A ranking system that unlocks better and better equipment feels far more grounded. Need to have some authority in order to control budgets and requisition gear - the game is just emulating a sense of that. And, it helps balance out the game - keeping an emphasis on infantry + some combined arms.

The suggestion to make your supply worse if the enemy is doing well will just make every game snowball very quickly
I think you have a lot of good suggestions, but I feel like it would be better to not go about it all just to have the most "realistic" experience
Also I think your videos could really use a bit more structure, don't start them with the video title being an implicit first sentence and don't just cut off at the end

So its fair for everyone, gta is a great example. Would you like to start as a fresh gta player rn? Probs not because most players will be level 500+ and you’ll be spending most of the game avoiding vehicles and players with weapons you can’t deal with. Then it makes you feel weak as you’ll probably get abused looking at high level the wrong way and you wont want to play because you so far behind. Same goes for this game, why would people want to play if they are 2 years behind most other players (i.e. xbox and pc). In-match ranking system is fair as it also punishes OG players who cba doing much. I’ve seen players spend nearly the whole game waiting at the heli pad just to fly and thats it. They never venture out the base unless they are in a heli and half the time they are back there within minutes of leaving and when the timer starts they are still there but at least at the start they helped because they had to get their rank somehow.

I love it because it stops people just grabbing whatever whenever. Plus rockets might be getting locked behind a rank. This gives you incentive to learn the game by earning xp which you can only earn certain ways. Capping earns the most so gives the incentive to go cap a base, then its supply runs (this makes people run supplies) and that’s matched with veteran xp (for staying alive and completing objectives you earn about the same as 1 supply run). Finally killing gives you xp but it’s not a lot and same goes for building. Also going back to rockets, now rpgs will be locked behind rank vehicles might actually survive a little longer making the expensive price for them seem a little less harsh. If you go in a game rn i bet you’ll fly a heli or drive near a russian base as 5 to 6 rpgs each with another 2-5 rockets in backpacks fire non stop at you. Its not very realistic for a milsim. There’s a reason nearly all other milsims limit the amount of AT allowed per squad.
