Classical position is the best, and most similar to the guitar position while standing. I don’t get why so many guitarists don’t use it. John 5 is one of the few rock players I’ve seen using it.
@@CC-fi3ppcreo que se debe a las cabidades huecas que Gibson hace a sus Guitarras para quitar peso, aunque creo que eso sólo lo hacen con las Les Paul 😊
You should get one. Mine is as light as an SG but better balanced, plays like butter, and sounds like a choir of angels. Just don't bother sitting down with it. :-)
That’s the exact V model that I’ve always wanted. I have a LTD V and yup that’s the only way to play one sitting down. But I like that it’s actually more stable than playing a traditional guitar in the sitting position. At least for me.
It's so annoying when people complain about sitting with a flying V. Yeah, my first time using it I was like how the hell do I sit with this thing, but after a couple minutes you figure it out. I actually think it's uncomfortable playing in a seated position with anything else other than a V.
when i started playing guitar i tried to sit with a V and it was a disaster. that was before i started smoking weed though so maybe that was the problem
As a lover of the V I get really pissed at people who bitch about not being able to sit with a V. I thank you for this PSA. My favorite if I am sitting down to play or practice is my V just because its always in the perfect place posture wise. And my personal pet peeve is manufacturers who ruin the secret super power of the V by putting a output in the V, I see some epically awesome V model then I start looking for the output, and they murder the design.
NefariousDevil I always scratch my head when people say V's are "impossible to play sitting down". I don't feel comfortable at all playing siting down with a Les Paul or a strat, but I can play a V all day long.
Ken T I tried Rhoads, King V Pro (old Dave Mustaine model) and a Flying V similar to the video and personally I find the Flying V more confortable. The other two have a very heavy neck, wich makes the guitar unbalanced. In the looks department I prefer the King V Pro.
Lol I grew up with Randy Rhodes always around in my life because of my dad and ended up being my guitar hero next to my old man so Flying V are my go to guitars for sitting down there conferable for me
this video was posted literally the day I turned 12 and didn´t even know guitars and bass guitars were different. Now I´m a few months from turning 22 and even if I don´t have a gibson, I do have a dean V shaped guitar, which I love to the death, and it´s literally the most comfortable guitar I´ve had so far
also I just watched the video I can´t believe my whole life I´ve had the same birthday as one of the sickest guitar body shapes of all time. I am now a guitar
I have a messed up shoulder, so for sitting with a guitar the V shape is perfect for my posture. I love my other guitars too, but they have to be played standing up because of that
Personally wouldn't even buy a guitar if I'm not able to sit with it in that position. It's called Classical and it's honestly the best way to hold a guitar sitting down. At least for me
It's close. His looks like a '67 style from the 80s with speed knobs and EMG pickups. Mine is a '67 "reissue" from 1990 (bought it new by mail order from AMS when i was in high school), with the wizard hat knobs, 590's mounted directly to the pick guard without rings, and unashamedly the best neck in the universe. My heroes at the time were Kirk and Randy Rhoads, so, yeah, of course. :-)
Scott Arrington dude... this is hilarious, I’m not kidding, i was literally just searching UA-cam for “how to sit w a Flying V” because I just bought myself a new Rhoads and its super uncomfortable, and then this pops up. I totally forgot about this haha, excellent timing my friend...
Grind a groove out of the back edge under where the knobs are so it won't slide off your thigh, and while you're in the workshop saw the end of the bottom part of the V off behind the jack hole. The Flying V is a flawed design, you have to do a little bit of customization, now go, there's no time to waste, find the circular saw and the grinder, they're probably behind the Rubbermaid containers, probably fell back there. Don't forget to put the safety glasses on, could be a few chunks of plastic fly off when you go through the pick guard. Never mind the hot plastic smell, it'll clear. Now get on out there, go go go!
Wiil be V guitar good as the first electric guitar to learn? This position seems to be the same for classic gutar, i mean, 45 degrees, and it's a cosy position to easily access all frets. But it depends on which manufacturer made it, too. By my opinion, Michael Amott's has the ideal curve in right place.
That V looks identical to mine, it's a 89' 67 reissue... I don't know how it even became a thing this debate on sitting with a V, it's the most comfortable shape.
Some of the older Jackson Rhoads' have the right-handed inputs where the horn rests on the right leg! X_X Just found a super nice earl 00's JS32 and still debating heavily on whether to get it or not.
isnowyazn Yup thats mine whoever designed that guitar was an idiot! I love the thing and from playing it so much (I ignore the pain because i like the guitar) the screws came out from the wood itself, so i had to fix it, which I did myself cuz i dont trust other ppl. Get a different V man, it sounds pretty decent but the output kills the design.
Gabriel Amat It's ridiculous how they even decided to be "creative" or whatever the hell they thought they were doing. I mean, the first generation Jackson V's came out with the regular style input jack like on Strats, where it's slightly angled. Why couldn't they just keep that?
The design feels more like there was lack of ingenuity than anything else. I have thought of ways to fix it (angle it, or put it in the front), but the thickness of the wood and the distance from the electronics makes it impossible. I think is a Korean made guitar u know how Koreans are when designing guitars lol. Your best shot if u are going to get it is to play standing
See I sit classically with all my guitars but, my V's are just uncomfortable. They don't rest on my left leg because there is no horn or cut-away if you get what I mean. It'll just droop.
lol like i know you're kidding but i have this problem any time i try to play sitting on the couch or in bed or whatever. SGs are the only kinds of guitar i've seen someone have no trouble sitting with. currently playing with an Eclipse, ESP's Les Paul model and i've got like 4 - 6 inches of blanket padding my right knee so that its fat ass doesn't push the headstock away from me lol
It's the main riff from an unfinished song from ages ago. The palm-muted chugs on the low E coincide with the kick drum, so it was great for practicing heel-toe pedal work since i only had the single kick pedal. I was going to make a video with it, but, well, Life Happened.
hurts your back and in some cases creates a bruise on the leg that the guitar leans on. it's not comfortable to play at all sitting down, regardless. I hate the posture. But they're beautiful guitars
I have back and shoulder problems and can't sit for too long with a Les Paul or Explorer or Iceman and other "conventional" shapes until it hurts. With a V I can sit for hours without any problem thanks to the shape
Randy Rhoads: Phew! So glad that I’ve already practiced this pose for a few years

That V is really loud acoustically
