I've always been a pretty good athlete and I demand perfection for myself when I play any sport, but golf for some reason i can't bring myself to let go of a bad shot and not allow that frustration to carry on hole after hole

Perfection is attainable at times but it isn't always possible as your game improves your definition of perfection increases. You will always hit bad shots but as you improve your bad shots get less bad and your good shots get better. For example a pros bad shot maybe far better than my best shot.

I appreciate that its something I've been striving to work on I've only been playing for roughly 8 months or so, this is by far the most challenging sport I've ever played I'm slowly trying to teach myself to take things one shot at a time

    • @jonathonlewis1931

@Jordan Dixon Reed I'm trying that a little more starting with the range if i hit a bad shot I'm learning to take a step back breathe and try to treat the next one almost like a recovery just to build a little bit of mental confidence

I do indoor putting, about 15 ' I've got a round disk at one end & a table leg at the other.
Practice swing plain with tennis racket in mirror & keeping arms in tight into body, I bump n run as above lengths with 9 iron & 50°
10 from 10 Short putts & medium putts (one of those machine which fire it back to you, saves time) I do something every day, record it on a wall chart, done this since last July ..
Helped my up & down game unbelievable, but still hoping to get better
Plus worked on mind game also, from videos like this.
    Cheers

I’ve played sports my entire life, and I’ve always practiced a lot at those sports, but I always found that no matter how much I practiced… my results all came down to whether I believed I was capable of playing well… I’ve always struggled with confidence and playing under pressure… I’ve gotten better, but not nearly where I want to be

Have to say the mental side of my game has been sadly neglected over the years; finally started to work on it in the latter art of 2018 and now have a copy of Golf is not a Game of Perfect by Robert J. Rotella.
The first tip you gave is one I will probably use first as there are 2 holes on myl club course that bug the heck out of me.

It's crazy, always played sport at competitive level but nothing has got a hold of me like golf. You just can't perfect it. It's incredible. One thing to look into is Mindfulness. Helps you stay present, not worrying about your next shot, not dwelling on your last shot. Why worry about your next shot, it's not happened yet, you have control over it, why worry about your last shot, it's happened, nothing you can do about it. One shot at at a time. Helped me out alot.

Got into the habit of telling myself what I'm doing as I stand behind my ball on the tee, eg, aim 10 yard off the left hand side of the fairway to bring it round with a small fade back to dead centre. Putting is the same, read the green. Decide to aim 6" left and 2 foot past. Stick to it then play the shot. If it goes where I aim it and still miss, then I've read it wrong and not hit it wrong! Works for me!

Hey Pete what do you think you and shielsy vs golfaholics make it happen

  • @Pattoww
    @Pattoww 5 років тому

If you get frustrated on the course, you aren't entitled to hit a good shot or to have a good score. Anger/frustration is ego/fear, you want to lower fear/ego as much as you can.
We have layers of fear over ourselves, like with golf like for example: You're embarrassed you lost your temper in front of your playing partners; that's over the top of the reason why you got angry.
Everyone has fear in some form or another, they can be so deep you don't even notice it; it's important that you find it and shine a light on it. So learn why you fear hitting a bad shot and embrace/expose it, you'll get stronger each time you face the fear, you'll tilt less and will enjoy Golf that much more.

Nice speech. When does the motivational speaker tour begin? Actually, you are correct you can visualize success. As far as playing those tough holes great, par is good. My home course has water on 16 of 18 holes & small greens with wind. A great day is only losing 3 balls. If you do not believe it, come & play it.

Gerald Coffee? I searched it and only got the POW who took it one day at a time and never lost faith he would be rescued for 8 years until he was rescued. Is that the lesson we should learn from? That we should firmly believe in a goal and never give up faith that it will happen? Take it one day/shot at and time and stay positive. Or did I search the wrong guy lol

This works both ways. You can convince yourself you can't play a particular shot or hole. You have to tell yourself, and your playing partners, your the best playing your problem shot or hole. If you repeat it often enough you may not be the best but you will improve. Your playing partners will probably refuse to play with you, but improvements don't come without sacrifice.
