If they were going to do all this 'I don't want to exist under the shadow of my cousin' stuff, they should have skipped Supergirl and did a Power Girl show. The whole point of the character is that she wants to differentiate herself from both Superman and Supergirl; despite being in the 'family business', having the same powers, and (depending on which origin story they go with) actually being genetically identical to and sharing the same childhood as Supergirl. They could even have had Supergirl as a regular 'guest star' (played by the same actress as Power Girl) to emphasize the differences between the two characters.
This actually sounds like a good show with plenty of potential for amazing character development.
@Snoi Med They had Power Girl in Justice League Unlimited, and only toned-down her costume a little, and that was a kid's show. Then again, that was about 14 years ago...

Snoi Med There was an almost decade long stretch where she had a much smaller chest and no “boob window” anti-symbol. She was built almost exactly like this actress actually, except more athletic/muscular.
Power girl had bigger boobs and acted more mature because she was older, slightly.

That's actually a very good question. I suppose she saved that kid from a burning car and stopped the plane by now, however the first one had no chance of harming her and the the plane was for her sister specifically. So, yeah it feels unearned.

@Haku infinite I think it was said in the show Kara is by far Cats longest lasting assistant, as the woman has a short temper and likes to fire people when angry or something like that.
I will agree that I'm not entirely sure what Kara's duties are besides coffees, lunch and babysiting (that 1 time), clearly neither I nor the show care about Kara's job.

In Supergirl’s defense (I can’t believe I just wrote that) the whole Superman=Supergirl problem isn’t really the show’s fault. Back when it started Supergirl (comics) was largely criticized as an inferior Superman, now she’s criticized as an angsty Superman.
She found her place though.
Power girl > Supergirl. She even does the 'finding my place in a world where I'm overshadowed by my family' angst better.
jic1, I actually agree with you that the everything about the relationship between Power Girl and Helena Wayne is way better than any medium of entertainment that has Supergirl and Batwoman in it.
Without a doubt but if they can make Barbara Gordon into her own identity of being future Commissioner of GCPD, Oracle of Birds of Prey, Barbara Gordon as a model citizen, and Batgirl. Then why not Supergirl, it's been done in comics why not TV.

Creative, the 2017 Wonder Woman movie was better than any medium of Supergirl series that’s she in, but Power Girl has always been the best written character in Injustice 2 and in the comics whereas Supergirl was only relatable and like able in the Injustice 2 comics and the Red Daughter of Kyrpton.

I will give the show one credit; they didn't sexualize Supergirl. They had plenty of opportunities to do the big boobed, short skirt, and a sexy midriff thing. But the look they went with looks much more modest than you'd expect. I mean, they failed on literally every other level, but they got the *look* right.

SG reveals her identity to her friends asap and her super heroine form is not hard to figure out since its just a bun, clothes, and glasses.
😂😂😂 EVEN in the silver age comics when superman placed Kara in the midville orphanage, Superman spent plenty of time with kara, trained her and help her adjust to life on earth before he reveled her presence on earth to the world. So the idea that he didn't spend any time with her at all is utter Bullcrap.
I think he felt the world could know superman had a cousin but not clark kent. I think he felt it would draw too much suspicion on both of them. I don't know, heroes. Old conics did things that these days would seem strange.
A powergirl series would of made for an interesting series. CEO and founder of her own company, chairwoman of JSA, one of the most powerful heros on earth, and an average Jane.

Your right about that. SG could've done the hero thing in her late teens as a mysterious hero. Helping others in almost any way and as time goes by, done a modern yet classic SG uniform.

it is a slightly nice touch (even if completely wasted) that they have Dean Cain on the show as a nod to the Adventures of Lois and Clark tv-series.

That scene of Kara lifting the car to secluded place and giving interview is ripped off straight from Superman The Animated Series where Clark as Superman lifts Lois car and gives her an interview in a secluded place just to dissuade some public doubts regarding his intentions.

She probably overcomes stuff super quickly... but I mean... shes a Superman rip-off... obviously shes OP and Mary Sue-ish.

I can tell you from her other work, Laura Benanti (super girls mom) is actually a fantastic actress, who’s being directed poorly here.
The Justice League Unlimited cartoon did a much better job of making Kara her own person. She had a strong personality and they didn't have to distance her from Superman to show it. She even changed her suit to be more like his in later season because they are proud of each other. But she was never defined by comparison or contrast to him
Supergirl lifting up Cat's car to take her off to an interview location was ripped directly from Superman the animated series. He does the same in the pilot with Lois Lane.

Isn't kryptonite a poison to kryptonians. So in that scene where Alex and Kara are fighting each other in kryptonite room. Wouldn't it be poisoning her. Shouldn't they have instead made a red solar radiation room for Kara. Become red solar radiation makes kryptonians more human. But kryptonite would be poisoning kara.

They are suped up on a planet like Earth with the yellow sun. On their planet, they're just normal.
Not to mention, once you get above a certain civilization level and think that you're all brainy, then if your brain says, "No revolution can defeat us" or "No volcanic activity is big enough to destroy our planet" then it's hard to convince you otherwise.

Every time I hear "You have the heart of a hero" I think of Tidus's "this is my story." From Final Fantasy X. It's clear the writers put it in because they're trying to convince the audience. And it doesn't work.
