Very interesting video. I'm a big fan of the music in Splatoon, in fact I think it's actually one of the core elements of what makes the series so likable. A lot of stuff here I didn't know about. It's clear the composers of the game put a lot of thought and hard work into creating the unique world of music in these games. I wish more games had contextual music like this. Especially the final boss fights where you can actually see the idols performing the music in the background. Can't wait until Splatoon 3 (in one day as of this comment).
Speaking about Deep Cut. I think Frye could very well have Pearls voice actress and Shiver has some Callie vibes in her voice and also a bit Marina like. I listened carefully and their voices sound similar to those 2/maybe 3 older Splatoon idols. So maybe they didn't recruit new people for Frye and Shivers part. Also congrats team Rock. I don’t think so. Shiver has a *very* significant enka vibrato in the splatfest battle songs and some people noticed a South-Asian style of singing with Frye.

Team Rock ftw! The creation of these voices certainly seems more complex than what they do at studios when making the voice of say the smurfs, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse and other fictional characters who have voices different sounding from most humans. Quite interesting stuff indeed!

Loved this vid! Such a rich lore and production with the Splatoon series. There’s a reason the directors always showed up in white coats 😂
the squid research team! The fact that they created fake scientists is the best part
When I was in middle school back in splat 1 days, I somehow got the idea that the VAs put their heads in water for all the voice lines… 💀💀💀… I started telling my friends that like it was trivia 😭
8:25 For me it sounds like more glitchy in the beta version.
man watching this after playing the 3rd game you can tell the difference in the quality. I love this series
9:08 he sounds kinda like Alastor from Hazbin Hotel, theres a little difference between those 2 voices of Alastor and his but yeah
I was also on Team Rock lol
I don’t think so. Shiver has a *very* significant enka vibrato in the splatfest battle songs and some people noticed a South-Asian style of singing with Frye.
@@cometvaudin9496 I know that. I'm not talking about the singing style 'cause that one is a different style, I mean their voices sound familiar to Pearl and Callie in sound, not singing style
@@iris1568 I thought nobody noticed that, and even if they're singing in different styles, that doesn't means they can't be Pearl and Callie's VAs
@@Octalgari Exactly. Also Fryes enthusiastic talking in the news section when Deep Cut announces the stages just really has that same Pearl voice and energy
They are slightly similar but I'm pretty sure they are not the same person.
“By introducing undulating tones, I made the music reminiscent of the imaginary squid world”
*In short terms, she wrote banger music*
step 1. chug piss
step 2. gargle
Congrats you have made the entire splatoon soundtrack
Thomas I love ur videos! Thank sm for uploading keep up the great work
Thanks for checking out my videos!!! :)
Splatoon music just makes me so unreasonably happy, I even pick up the game to listen to the final minute music. It's so good
“I’m a Squid, and I love to swim!
Lets shoot ink,
And play splatoon!”
I'm so slow. I had to hear "Callie and Marie" about a dozen times before I finally understood the "calamari" pun.
Oh my god. I'm slow too ig
omfg
Wow ..I mean., impressive but I knew that long before splat 3 was a thing
@@Starvaze I should add that I don't play Splatoon and had never heard of the duo before.
(11:49) they even look like off the hook...oh yeah huh
Some say the characters were inspired from their VA's and hiar styles
And i thought they just dunked their heads in water. 😂
For anyone looking for Splatoon-esque music, the Japanese band Necry Talkie has a very similar visual and musical style to in-game bands like Wet Floor. Their album Zoo!! Is a must-have!
I still can't get over how Marina and Pearl's VAs kinda look the same as the characters they are voicing
I assumed it was random sound effects and digital synthetic music
But it’s actually more along the lines of like the sims
That’s neat
Team Rock ftw!
The creation of these voices certainly seems more complex than what they do at studios when making the voice of say the smurfs, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse and other fictional characters who have voices different sounding from most humans.
Quite interesting stuff indeed!
Bro team rock already won you can stop rubbing it in 😞
@@snusey3642 never 🪨🗿🪨🗿🪨🪨
Well I mean most of those voices aren’t modified. People can genuinely sound like that
A Splatoon vocaloid would be so cool tbh. Imagine Big Man rapping Rap God
6:35 Speaking from my own experience of teaching myself to sing A Red Apple Fell From The Sky, I feel for these girls.
same
Fun fact: The voice of Marina, has her own UA-cam channel! You can find her here! ⬇️

All the effort and love that goes into this game's music is awesome.
In the song Every Planet We Reach is Dead by Gorillaz they have the Splatoon singing style kind of. So if there's a behind-the-scenes on how that song was made then we can kind of know how they changed These Girls singing into the squid versions. The Splatoon singing style pops up specifically at 3:57 within Every Planet We Reach is Dead and ends at 4::29.
13:02 I HEARD THAT MARINA HIGH NOTE ☠️
We are not sure if Big man has a va and Fryes VA is a jazz singer named Laura Yokozawa and Shivers VA is a enka singer named Anna Sato
great video once again! i am SO excited for splatoon 3 😭😭
3:33 MIKU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is very well done. you are really selling that those two woman spend a lot of time, energy and dedication to a game. Their work is both a big part of the whole, but also just subtle world building: That what they did feels in universe without sticking out - this perfect seamless fit shows their skill.
the fictional lyrics + low pass filter = squid voices
In the song “spicy calamari incantation” SOUNDS SO MUCH LIKE WORDS
. Shiver is voiced by Anna Sato while Frye is voiced by Laura Yokozawa. we do not know who big man is yet
I can't wait for the concert in October It's going to be lit
It’s actually really impressive and quite creative.
