    Great comparison! It would be hard for me to justify the extra cost. Especially in a UA-cam talking head scenario. I would just add some eq and sit from the same distance each recording.

      @sam24bit  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Barry. The cost is justified if you factor in other details like build quality, durability, directional properties etc etc. But yea for the purpose and only looking at the audio quality, an upgrade seems like a luxury :)

    They do sound very close. That being said, the 416 has that magic sauce. It seems to be perfectly tuned to the human voice. I am not sure it is truer sound necessary, but as you say, it is somehow more pleasing. I have found this to be the case across multiple reviews and no matter what speakers I am listing through. Also, being able to handle sound slightly more consistently and different distances is a plus too. I think you made a good decision, as you can narrow the gap even further between these two mics with a little EQ and by being a little more careful in terms of mic placement etc.

      Eq can make the bass on the mke 600 sound like the 416.

    Good video. I use the mke600 I like the sound. I also use a wire pop screen to get upclose proximity without catching the pop on the ps. It will be a looong time before I make the jump to this mic 416. I would get a professionally built whisper room first before I made this investment. Invest in good plugins like isotope that can perhaps take out some of the reverb and other surrounding noises.

    Bro you have an amazing deep voice.
    I think the 416 is better if you have a deeper voice.
    600 is better if you have a crispier voice.

    The differences seem to be reasonably subtle. The 600 would probably serve most of us pretty well, especially with a bit of EQ.

    I thought I heard a lot more background noise with the MKE 600, no?

    • @sam24bit
      @sam24bit  4 місяці тому

      That wont be accurate to compare since the background noise you hear from both mics are from slightly different occassions.
      That being said i did find mkh 416 to be cleaner . Also it already has a boosted high end compared to mke600 and requires less boost in post which increases the noise floor further. So after post processing the mke600's noise floor seems to be slightly higher and also the mkh416 is better at reducing low frequency rumble. Overall they are not a huge difference but yes mkh416 has a much cleaner sound i would say.

      @@sam24bit Great insight. Yesterday, I finally ordered the MKH 416 from Sweetwater. My room needs better acoustic treatment, and I’m hopeful the supercardioid pattern, and other characteristics of the Sennheiser will better isolate my audiobook narration from room ambience and various artifacts of a world that won’t stop for just a few hours so I can record a book.

    Hi Sam , I would like to know how to record the audio once the audio interface is connected to the computer ( I use Windows & also have ipad pro ) . Which software i must use to record the audio ? Garage band or any other software. No one has said this step which hard for an absolute beginner like me trying to get good audio . It would be better if you suggest in windows , I use canon live remote control app to see myself while recording.

    • @sam24bit
      @sam24bit  4 місяці тому +1

      Reaper is a good software. These softwares are called audio workstations. Garage band, audacity etc works just fine. The software will not affect audio quality. Basically choose one which you find easier to use. Tons of tutorials available based on which software u decide on. Hope this helps

    if you use mke600 without xlr interface and with xlr interface , is there any difference between sound quality? because i want to keep simple and dont want to spend and add another equipment to mke600

    • @sam24bit
      @sam24bit  Рік тому +1

      There is an obvious sound quality difference.
      An audio interface provides phantom power which is slightly more powerful than the inbuilt battery option of the mke600. Hence there is a noticeable difference in the sensitivity of the mic. Which means while using it on battery power it requires more gain. To provide this you again require a pre amp. The audio interface provides around 30db of clean gain without inducing any noise and hence the audio sounds clean whereas when used on camera or connected directly to a computer somehow , the gain these devices can provide is very less and hence in effect induces white noise which is very Audible. I don't see any reason for using it without a pre amp. And for voice over if you don't want to add extra gear you will be much better off with a USB mic rather than spending on an mke600. Hope this helps

    Looking for the best option for my Sony fx3 - as a shot gun mic.
    My options are
    MKe 400 - love the size
    MKe 600 - love the quality of sound…but it’s huge!!
    Any suggestions ?

    • @sam24bit
      @sam24bit  Рік тому +1

      I do not think the mke600 will give the same quality you hear in this video when used as an on camera mic(with in built battery powering) . The output tend to be lower and has less bass response. If you use it as a boom mic instead with a dedicated recorder it will do great. Otherwise MKE 400,440 or the Rode video mic pro series might be better options for this purpose .

      @@sam24bit the fx3 camera has an XLR unit…even then ?

    • @sam24bit
      @sam24bit  Рік тому +1

      @@PrudhviMitra The point is mke600 needs phantom power and here it is performing using the true phantom power supplied by an audient id 4 mk2 audio interface. It has a inbuilt battery powered option too for most camera situations. I am saying when you use that the sensitivity would reduce and hence the output. An XLR input is ideal .But I cannot speak for a specific camera situation as I not familiar with it.

    • @sam24bit
      @sam24bit  11 місяців тому +1

      if portability is something which helps your end project then its best to go with a portable recorder .ID4 is not for that purpose. Audio Quality wise the zoom h6 or ID4 wont make any noticeable difference. Post processing software is a vast topic which I cant post in a single comment. But there are enough content on youtube to help you with it. Cheers!

    • @sam24bit

      Agreed. But this part was included in the video more for the story telling purpose rather than as a side by side audio comparison for the viewers. As a viewer I always depend on the reviewer's verdict as it is difficult to judge audio from youtube . I did spend hours testing the mics before making the video and everything I have said is based on those hours spent.
