Oscar nominee Denis Villeneuve (“Arrival,” “Blade Runner 2049”) directs Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “Dune,” the big-screen adaptation of Frank Herbert’s seminal bestseller of the same name.
A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence-a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential-only those who can conquer their fear will survive.
The film stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name,” “Little Women”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep,” “Mission: Impossible - Fallout”), Oscar Isaac (the “Star Wars” franchise) Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Milk,” “Avengers: Infinity War”), Stellan Skarsgård (HBO’s “Chernobyl,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Avengers: Endgame”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Fences,” “Lady Bird”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” HBO’s “Euphoria”), Chang Chen (“Mr. Long,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), David Dastmalchian (“Blade Runner 2049,” “The Dark Knight”), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Netflix’s “Sex Education”), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), with Jason Momoa (“Aquaman,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall”).
Villeneuve directed “Dune” from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts and Villeneuve and Eric Roth based on the novel of the same name written by Frank Herbert. Villeneuve also produced the film with Mary Parent, Cale Boyter and Joe Caracciolo, Jr. The executive producers are Tanya Lapointe, Joshua Grode, Herbert W. Gains, Jon Spaihts, Thomas Tull, Brian Herbert, Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert.
Behind the scenes, Villeneuve reteamed with two-time Oscar-nominated production designer Patrice Vermette (“Arrival,” “Sicario,” “The Young Victoria”), two-time Oscar-nominated editor Joe Walker (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Arrival,” “12 Years a Slave”), two-time Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor Paul Lambert (“First Man,” “Blade Runner 2049”), and Oscar-winning special effects supervisor Gerd Nefzer (“Blade Runner 2049”). He also collaborated for the first time with Oscar-nominated director of photography Greig Fraser (“Lion,” “Zero Dark Thirty,” “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”); three-time Oscar-nominated costume designer Jacqueline West (“The Revenant,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Quills”) and costume designer Robert Morgan; and stunt coordinator Tom Struthers (“The Dark Knight” trilogy, “Inception”). Oscar-winning and multiple Oscar-nominated composer Hans Zimmer (“Blade Runner 2049,” “Inception,” “Gladiator,” “The Lion King”) is creating the score.
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures Present a Legendary Pictures Production, a Film by Denis Villeneuve, “Dune.” The film is slated to be released in select theaters in 2D and 3D and IMAX and on HBO Max on October 22, 2021 and will be available on HBO Max’s Ad-Free plan in 4K UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos (English Only) on supported devices for 31 days from theatrical release.
The film has been rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, some disturbing images and suggestive material. - Фільми й анімація
It’s hilarious how many people think Dune is ripping off so many movies, when it was Dune that inspired them all. It came out in 1965, people! It inspired two, almost three generations of pop culture and it continues to be relevant even to this day!
It was a Book right? I remember the movie in the 80s.
Little to advanced for me then.
@@bigjay123 Star Wars for example, was heavily influenced by DUNE. And actually Frank Herbert said that George Lucas has down right stolen his ideas.
Actually foundation is a lot older and inspired all of those movies
The only thing Dune was inspired by was the works of Shakespeare. No, I'm not kidding.
@@FabledGentleman Yep, for example, the Jedi are reskinned Bene Gesserit without the breeding program. Everything else -- advanced fighting styles, the religious overtones, the ability to manipulate people's actions (with the Force instead of the Voice), the thousands of years of history, the metaphysical ways of communicating with past generations -- is the same.
This isn't the next Star Wars, nor The Lord of the Rings, this is DUNE.
that phrase was so disrespectful 😂, DUNE is its own thing
Thank You!!!
If anything Starwars was the next Dune
Star Wars has it’s root concepts in Dune. I hope Dune doesn’t become a parody of itself like Star Wars did since, despite it’s amazing story, Dune is a commentary on humanity, religion, oppression, politics, the attempt for perfection, nature and it’s resources, and so much more. I’m literally counting down the days by re-reading the book again for the first time in about 40 years. Can’t wait!
u ganna be disappointed ☹️
Every single person that worked on this film should be extremely proud. A true masterpiece
DUNE was magical and very entertaining. I loved it. ❤❤A little hint of Luke Skywalker vibes. Paul was the chosen one as well.
Daniel F. I just saw footage for a Dune movie premiere in January 2023 in Paris.
Timothee has got to be exhausted by now, the press tours, talk shows. Promoting a movie takes so much traveling. I can only imagine how Timothee feels.
I hope he takes some me time to chill out from all the craziness of fandom and travels. It’s March now I wonder what Timothee does when he’s not filming.
I hope he is well. Stay sweet and kind precious Timothee. You’re so 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Apologies for this extra long reply, Daniel F. Have an awesome day. Peace.
@@jaemyrick5277 I wouldn’t think of Paul as a kind of Luke skywalker character. Whether or not Paul is a good person is very complicated unlike Luke skywalker
I saw Dune in IMAX last night, and it turned out to be the GREATEST MOVIE EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!! This was a once in a lifetime experience that I will never forget. I felt like I was transported to another world! Watching the story unfold was so exillerating! The visuals were just so beautiful and breathtaking. This is also the best book to film adaptation that I've seen. It hit almost every single scene in the original book! I can't wait for Part 2!!!
Glad you enjoyed yourself mate 🙂

@@sarthaksharma7943 This isn't the kind of movie for 3D...i've only seen a few in 3D and Dr Strange was the best because of the magic visuals. Imax...is great, but if you sit far from the screen, you may as well sit in the front row of a larger regular theater. But then again, the last Imax i saw was Superman Returns lol. Thinking of maybe just flopping down the cash and checking it in Imax. I have the pirated leak on my PC..but i STILL PAID TO SEE IT in theater!! My sound is very good, but the theater i went to literally shook my seat (recliner).
I'm from Russia and we've already had the premiere of this film, I managed to watch it twice.
if someone doubts whether to go to the cinema or not - as a person who has read Dune and loves this book, I recommend you to watch it, as I was insanely pleased with what I saw. It's something incredible, totally worth seeing. Villeneuve has this magical ability to transform the complicated explanations from the book into one or two lines and several scenes that are understandable even for someone who had not read the book. My friend, with whom I went for the second time, is just one of those, and she confirmed my thoughts and said that she perfectly understood what was happening and now wants to read the whole book. Even my mom (who is a fan of the series and she was sure that this story is impossible to be told in a form like this) was very impressed!
Great to hear!
Good to hear was worried about people getting some stuff or it being over explanatory
I also feel it's impossible to be told in a film as I love the books. I'm really looking forward to it. First movie I seen in the cinemas this year.

Woah as someone who wasn't aware of this whole franchise at all, this answers all my queries and makes me very happy 😍
it’s funny that they’re calling dune “the next starwars” because the books are basically what popularized the epic space opera
Indeed. Isaac Asimov's "Foundation" and Frank Herbert's "Dune"; the two most historically detailed early space opera epics, and inspiration for Star Wars and Warhammer 40,000. Both are getting adaptations this year, but somewhat changed in Foundation's case, less so in Dune's case.

Brilliant movie Mr Villeneuve, just brilliant. I just saw it. I will watch it many more times, and I’ll go see it in the theater. Please keep it up on all of the rest that you do, and Thank You for keeping it PG-13. I think keeping it PG -13 makes the movie more about the story, and that is what great movies are about. Congratulations to you and the people involved in making it, absolutely brilliant. I just finished watching it, and I could watch it all over again right now. I haven’t enjoyed a movie that much in a real long time.
Is the book rated R or something? But yeah, Im thankful for that as well
I felt the same way about BR 2049. I saw it in the theaters 5 times before it left. Villeneuve will ascend to the pantheon of extraordinary film directors. I've waited for a movie worthy of Herbert's work since I read the novel in 1975

I love that the action scenes in this movie are short and to the point. We see enough pointless fights and explosions in media, they don't impress us any more, we are desensitized. Time spent exploring characters and developing the plot is much more entertaining to watch. Action is good when it is just used to spice up the rythm/pacing of the movie and move the story forward, not when it is the main point of your film.
Well said. 100% agree

I agree with most comments, especially the critical ones. This movie has everything and therefore almost perfect. right, star wars was the next Dune
Guys we all know dune was written before Star Wars was a thing. What it means is that it will be the next epic movie saga next to other epic multi movie series like Lotr and Starwars with very dedicated fans and giant lore.
No movie will ever be as much of a sea change as Star Wars was. Everything about movies completely changed when that came out. Marketing, merchandising, royalties on merchandising, special effects, writing, sequels, the cementing of the "summer blockbuster must-see movie". what is this movie going to do that Star Wars did?
Dear trailer makers: stop comparing every vaguely sci-fi/fantasy film to each other. It alters people's expectations of it, usually for the worse. This story is nothing like Star Wars or LotR, and they shouldn't be compared. Say something like "next big sci-fi epic." Honestly, the actual Dune story has more in common with something like Game of Thrones than either of those other films.
When movies say things like that I assume it's hyperbole and don't want to watch it. Game of Thrones is a good call.
Star wars and GoT are based on Dune, therefore you can compare them
They mean that dune is gonna be the next big cinematic phenomenon
Overall the best comparisons I can make for dune are either game of thrones or Warhammer 40k. The only thing dune and Star Wars share is the space setting.

I just saw Dune today and it was epicly awesome. The soundtrack, the effects, the atmosphere, the characters are all portrayed and performed splendidly - it is an amazing creation, literally gave cold shivers down my spine. The story (although a little bit unclear and complicated if you have never heard of it, it might be a little hard to get used to the story so you might want to do a little background check before watching) is really interesting and every single element in the movie is made with pure talent and Hans Zimmer's music is just a cherry on top. Even though they went for every most famous actors, I feel like each of them did their job really well and it didn't feel like a bad choice at all. The scenery, the camera work and the desert (and all the other areas too) are just beautiful and I honestly loved the desert setting more than anything, it was really nicely done and gives the movie some uniqueness. This was one of the best sci-fi (& action/adventure) movies I've ever seen and I can't wait to see the second part! Go watch it, preferably in a movie theater which gives even more feeling and it looks even better.

The fact that Hans Zimmer turned down Tenet as he was already dedicated to this movie and Tenet released a year early.Too excited to see what the movie brings in
Tenet did great without him tho…no diss on HZ but it didn’t need him :) Dune will be great tho..I’m excited!
I haven't seen Tenet yet, and was not aware until JUST NOW that Hans Zimmer is the composure for Dune, and that excites me to no end cause he's my favorite hands down. But it does make sense he turned down Tenet despite Tenet releasing a year before Dune, considering Dune was delayed due to the rona. If I remember correctly, Dune was supposed to release back in February or even earlier.
Of course they got Hans Zimmer 🤣 he's a mastermind behind so many orchestral hits like Interstellar.
To add to that, he said it was his childhood dream to score Dune, (so was Villeneuve's to direct it). Zimmer was so into making music for the movie, he went ahead and wrote 2 more albums in addition to the movie's soundtrack. I have never been more hyped about a movie before.

The books are written in a way that reveals much of the history background. Each chapter actually begins with a small excerpt with background context.

I saw it on opening night in Sweden on the 15th of september, and let me tell you, I have not been this immersed in a movie in a long time. It was made to be watched in a cinema and I recomend everybody to see it in cinemas. I went to see it a second time just because i couldnt get it out of my head. The music, the visuals, the acting, theres not one thing this movie lacks, unless theres not a sequel made. I have not read the books or seen the Lynch version and I had no problem following the story, I bring this up because it seems that a big concern people seem to have is being afraid of not following along in the story (fear is the mind killer) but the movie is made with such care and thought that following the story and understanding the world is not a problem. So go see it in cinemas so the cast and Denis can finish this masterpiece of a story in all its glory.
If you watch movies to experience something that is both unforgettable and makes you forget about everything else, this is it. Just do yourself a favor and see it. Don't listen to the naysayers. Just for the record: This is NOT the new Star Wars, this is something entirely different than Star Wars (SW was actually heavily influenced by Dune)
it is space opera at its best, just like SW. However, Dune spans eons while SW spans a couple generations at most.
@@christophejamoye8394 technically the original dune spans about a decade. Only later on did it expand to thousands of years, and by that time SW also had expanded to thousands of years too.
Have to admit though I actually think Dune has a better extended timeline, the history of how everyone became who they are and why things are that was was reallywell explained.
I think they just meant Dune will be the new must see movie of a generation like Star Wars and LOTR were touted at the time.
@@christophejamoye8394 Are you aware of that SW has already blended into the culture of North America? @@rike2206 (You rightly mocked action/adventure but you already mentioned enjoying Avengers? Would that be the Avengers which is an action/adventure blockbuster??)
If CGI is your main criteria, I could make a recording of my toilet bowl in the morning - complete with CGI and booming sound, this would also be 'unique and gigantic' if shown in IMAX.
If I charged $25 to watch that, some people would still pay so they could feel 'immersed' and most would then give my toilet movie 10/10 on IMDB.
Therefor, I contend that a truly great movie does not need to be watched in IMAX or on a $3000 tv etc. A great movie should be able to stand alone and be outstanding even on a small screen.

@BrightForest first off you took the dudes joke to seriously. Secondly if an actor is famous for their work that means obviously they're good at what they do. You say you also look at the character but fail to realize it takes a good actor to really bring a character to life (also director and the character lines play a part aswell) and if they succeed in that aspect enough boom become famous.
