- This presentation covers the Newark (NJ) City Subway from every angle. It includes on-board, rear view, driver's view, and run-past scenes, both above ground and underground. There is also a brief slideshow at the end, with photos taken from the 1960s to the 1990s.

Interesting the operator mentioned “Transfer to the Morris & Essex line” when the nearest station is Newark Broad St and that’s quite a bit of a walk east on Orange St. Now there’s a station stop at Newark Broad St for the Light Rail before the line turns back around.
That station would definitely have served more of a purpose if the Newark Bears Stadium was still there.

That’s the Number 7 line between Penn Station to Belleville loop, as I recall. Nice when attended Rutgers while living in NYC.

Many of these very cars operate here in San Francisco today for historic F line service. Cool to see what they looked like in another time.

These cars were built in 1946-48 for Twin City Rapid Transit Company, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota and sold to Public Service Coordinated Transportation, Newark, NJ, 1953. I used to take these to college before and after they changed the cars. In summer it was not that pleasant often times because all you had was window you could crank open, and no A/C. Interesting piece of history but noisy and stuffy. They worked more like busses having the conductor have to take the money and hand out transfers.

Yes, yo are so right. The a/c most of the time didn't work and some of the windows would fail to crank open. lol!!
@@salescustomer-service2050 These cars were built in 1946! The majority of trains didn't have A/C yet either!

tassiebaz I knew there was a station platform at Orange St on the Northbound side 7:06 at one time! I was really young riding the now called Light Rail, and me and my mother or whichever relative I was with would get on a Orange St for Downtown since my family lived on nearby 3rd St.

I ca't figure out what keeps the trolley pole (tiny as it is) connected to the overhead.
Hi William, Thanks for watching and for your comment. The trolley pole has a "shoe" at the end of it that connects to the overhead wire.
This shoe has two sides that straddle the wire and a carbon insert to reduce wire ware (the insert wares before the wire does). Have a look at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trolley_pole for a more detailed explanation. Hope this helps. Regards, tassiebaz.

I noticed the cars at the end of the line's life had pantographs on the roof that were not used. But the historical photos do not show those on the roof. Do you know the story be hind those?
Hi Doug, Here's what I believe: As part of the line upgrading, the wire needed to be modified to accommodate the pantographs of the new light rail cars. The PCCs were fitted with pantographs so they could still run during the transition until the new cars were received and running.

@Art Stone POP doesn't work in most cities as many like the 1 in 1000 odds of never getting spot checked! The Newark City Subway had a 100% farebox recovery rate with fares paid through the Johnson Farebox! Since POP was implemented it dropped to something like a 25% firebox recovery rate! That'd something that's totally ignored by Transit officials! Unfortunately the cost to install faregates, barriers, and fare collection wasn't worth it in NJ Transit's view! Staten Island Railroad in New York City is even worse with fare collection only done at the two eastern termimals!

@@tassiebaz Презентација је изузетна . Ја Вас такође поздрављам. У Београду смо имали ПЦЦ трамваје. 1960године купљено је 20 комада а касније још 2 ПЦЦ новије каросерије. Вожени су до 1985 године.Тада су их нажалост исекли и расходованих. Па ипак један је спашен, продат је за 10000 $ Белгијском музеју где су га 2 године рестаурирано. Црвено беж боје као код нас док је био. Надам се да ћу имати прилику да се кад тад поново Возим у Вашингтононцу како су их звали. Код нас у Београду је пруга ширине један метар. Били су веома брзи са изванредном акцелерацијом и веома модерне ножне команде. И на лошим шинама је сјајно ишао јер је имао перфектно амортизацију.и бочно померање. Његова импозантна појава остављала је без даха.,,,

I knew that there were some places in Europe that had PCC cars, but didn't realise that Belgrade did. I was in Belgrade a few years ago on a Danube cruise and got to see the trams and trolleybuses there.
