Ahhhh....our beloved Ashley is back! All is right in the world. Great tips regarding the zipper pockets and the sticker release refills - I'm always afraid that the connecting bands will hurt my refills so will try this asap 😅
Love the idea of carrying sticker release paper to save those entry stickers! I bring just one full size insert, a cloth zipper pocket insert to keep ephemera, and a canon Ivy printer for photos, and one designated washi tape for the trip. I journal during down time so I can capture thoughts and feelings before I forget them… I sometimes take forever to catch up when I journal too much later!
This is the most useful travel journal video I’ve watched (and I’ve watched a lot!). I’m definitely going to try to keep my collected ephemera in order on my next trip!
I learned from a UA-cam channel many years ago if you take the extra band that you get from the box and if you run it through the same holes as the ones that are currently in the Midori notebook cover you can then add more notebooks without having to worry about using a rubber band with two books.
I keep the stickers on packaging too ❤❤❤ I’ve actually never owned the sticker release insert, but you’ve inspired me to use it to gather stickers to put on a more permanent insert later I do also appreciate not lugging around your whole stationery collection while travelling. I fear I would be that person, but just collecting during the trip and journaling back home where everything is makes more sense to me ❤
I have a travellers notebook!! I got mine from Yoseka for a trip to Vietnam after I read May's blog post! I have a camel passport and I am the type who draws when I travel! I usually will have the zipper insert to keep tickets and and the watercolor refill, and I'll carry my travel watercolors and a pen in a pencil puch so its usually compact! I can't wait to see your journal after you travel Ashely!!
I love your setup - I have the zipper refill in my passport, and I tuck two refills in those back pockets, too. Now I see I should get it for the regular since that is what I’ll likely take with me on my wanders. Thank you for sharing, Ashley - I’m sure everyone would love to also see updates on how you finish your travel journaling and how you transition from refill to refill, as well. Cheers!
This was super helpful! I've seen the travelers notebook here and there but was never really convinced until you showed that trifold folder 😅 think I might try to pick one up in the coming months for when I travel next summer!
This was fascinating! It’s good to see you again Ashley ~ I rewatched this and took notes. I also don’t care for the connecting bands.. so I was glad to hear the clear zip case could work as a replacement! I also resonate with wanting to collect the ephemera in the now but could not bring myself to journal while traveling. I think it’s cool that you’ve separated your TN setup from your health log as well.. because I also have to track certain flares / symptoms in attempt to maintain my health. I always fall off while traveling.. and then have to recover upon returning or I’m unable to participate in my original plans. 🥲 I’d love to see an update flip through your Spain short trip insert if you’re willing to share :-)
I have to admit that though I brought my health log with me, I ended up using some of our down-time to catch up on logging my health symptoms from the previous month😭Traveling is enjoyable but also quite taxing; recovering afterwards is a must! Thanks for watching! I'll do my best to see if I can make an update video :) -Ashley
Wonderful and helpful video - so well done! Had to go and order several items. Love the idea of stashing things in the pages of the Short Trip refill. Thanks so much!
Thank you for sharing. I recently came back from a short trip and I took with me the passport travelers notebook. I realized that I needed to allocate pages to write about my trip because I am running out of pages to write about the entire trip. 😅 Thank you again a for sharing.
Good to see you back 😄 Some good tips in this one for me to use. So simple but using the clear pockets for inserts.... yep, I like it 👍🏻 Then the three fold file as well. That one is so useful I do have one of those. I put area maps in mine so I could see them through it. Good video 😄
LOL looks like we went on very similar trips and although I set up my TNs basically the same way as you, I did not have the trifold pocket but really could have used it for those museum tickets!I I also do next to no journaling on the fly- clipping my small ephemera, tickets etc. for each day in between the pages of the refills. Being in Spain among other places for a month however did present some challenges on the back end with so much to work on when I returned home. I put the predated weekly refill pages at the front to jot down my itinerary but am definitely going to steal your idea in the future of using the small memo pad instead rather than bulking out the TN any further. Sadly, I also am not much of a sketcher but have started to carry the small paint set in case the inspiration strikes!
Such an interesting video since I too tend to journal/collage from a trip when I get back! Also would love to see your trip collage/journaling process!
This was such a great video and so timely as I am planning to go to Spain as well! I was just struggling with those annoying jump bands and the zipper pocket idea is great! I'm going to try that! I was wondering what you do with your refills after you finish the collaging etc. Does it stay in your TN or pulled out and archived?
Great video, Ashley! I have been thinking about the zippered pocket insert and it's helpful to see it in action. I have a weird question about the planner you used as more of a wallet. Did you add anything to your carry setup to protect against theft, like a bag with anti-theft properties? A large item used as a wallet like that seems vulnerable and I know tourists can be targets.
Thanks so much for watching! I did have a larger bag with a carabiner-style clip that blocked the zippers from being used when the bag was closed, and I kept all my items inside there including the wallet-pouch. I didn't add anything onto the wallet specifically, just kept an extra eye out :) - Ashley
Thanks for watching! It's so hard to pick just one favorite thing, but I really loved the city setup of Barcelona and the surrounding area's history/ historic sites! Visiting Montserrat Monastery was a memorable one for me. And of course the food haha -Ashley
Ashley, did you fly with that fountain pen? And it didn't leak? I'm always too careful to take fountain pens travelling with me, but I love them and miss them when I'm not carrying one in my EDC.
Yes I did! I flew with it and no leakage AT ALL. I've had some bad luck with other pens, but my best advice is to make sure there's some sort of seal mechanism in the cap of the pen, and then screw the cap on VERY TIGHTLY. (Not too tight though, or the threads might get damaged!) I've had 0 leaking with TWSBI's, and very minimal leaking with my Sailor's and Kaweco's, but I still always open them with caution after getting off the plane haha - Ashley
Looking back/remembering a vacation and how good it was, is based on the best moments because our memory stores pictures not videos, so length of a vacation has very little to do with quality of a vacation. Fun fact

Ashley, great to see you back. I know you’re still fighting an invisible battle behind the scenes-I hope you have some days with energy soon.
Thanks so much Cathy, and thanks for watching!! -Ashley
Great idea for the zipper case and 2 inserts. I will definitely copy your wonderful setup. Many good ideas. Thank you! So much fun! 🥰🌷🤗🌷
The use of the short trip insert is genius! I’m definitely going to do this for my next trip too.
I’d love to see more of your journal process! Maybe making a spread or two.🎉

I would love to see your journal completed! You have a great way of organizing while traveling. Thanks
Definitely a great setup! 😃 I’m mad at myself for not realizing I could use the pocket insert to add more notebooks. 🙈 Thank you! 😊 💖

I really enjoyed this video and would love to see more: including your process for creating the pages after your trip. I learned a lot!
Ashley is always interesting and it is good to see her

I'm interested in seeing you journal your trip!

Is the cream refill that you used the one is number 025?
💙💙💙 Spain. TFS your journaling experience. What was your fave thing about Spain?

@@Yoseka OMG now I'm missing it so. So many great things to see & try. A week definitely isn't enough time. Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
How do you glue paper etc without getting the pages wrinkled?

@@Yoseka Thanks for your reply! That's so good to know. If I take a pen travelling, it will have to be my TWSBI or my Kaweco Supra Brass then.
Ashley, are you of Filipino origin? Just asking.
