Marjorie is absolutely beautiful inside and out. Her contagious smile and gentle soul really puts your spirit at ease, I wish her and her family along with all the Inuit community in Anchorage much love and happiness.
They do better with herbs and vegetables than with meat. You can get one on Amazon. I highly recommend it. Cheaper and better than any of the janky kitchen gadgets that chop stuff.
Just ordered one “ULU” and will be using it very slowly. You are truly amazing and blessed to live in the one place that has my favorite fish. Thank you for the demonstration.
My friend gave me an Ulu for Christmas. We were celebrating his 90th birthday and here he hands me the knife. This is the first video. We fish Chinook and Coho here on the Yaquina and even though I am Sicilian and Jewish, I live among the confederated tribes of the Siletz Indians and I cherish learning anything from my native friends. Ayyyeeee! 😊
Working woman worth her weight in gold. She has heart and soul. LOVE FROM THE HEART HER SOUL THAT SPIRIT THAT GUIDE HER IN RIGHT PATH. My best to her and family. Be a support to your sister to be there best also.
This is why the Benchmade Nestucca is my favorite knife of all time. Best all around Kitchen, hunting, camping and bushcraft knife I have ever owned. They are discontinued but you can find them on Ebay. Great choice of steel, very unique looking, very very practical for many different applications, and looks great in a knife collection. The resale value is great as well. Worth every penny in my opinion!
This is why UA-cam is so great and this is a teriffic video to share both this woman's skills and the Ulu tool! I am just learning how to use my Ulu that my Mother brought me from Alaska in the 80s and I added to my kitchen cutlery collection but never learned how to use properly.
She has beautiful traditional tattooing. It is wonderful that she takes such pride in a skill that is traditionally the work of Inuit women, without claiming that the traditional work of Inuit women is demeaning. It is not! Cutting and preparing the fish and meat, sewing the family’s clothes, and tending to the seal oil lamp, as well as raising the children, are absolutely essential skills and roles for survival in the Arctic. For this reason and others, Inuit women are greatly respected and treated as equals in their communities, even though men and women perform different traditional roles. Her skills are amazing and essential, and she has been justifiably praised and recognized for them!
@@Karma4annabelle Interesting to know. In the encyclopedia the group is referred to as "Inuit People," also in the World Atlas. Typically when referring to them Inuit is coupled with people in English. Language is interesting. Thanks for letting me know though.
@@Karma4annabelle Yeah I know. I was just saying that typical English uses the word Inuit as part of a term, i.e. "Inuit People." English doesn't use it the same way.
This is pretty fast, but she still needs an ulu. I have heard about some native americans that could chase down a running bison, rip a leg off and eat it while they were running.
Nice and interesting video. Sorry if this comment seems a little unrelated, but I couldn't help thinking about my own upbringing as a poor white child while this young woman was talking being about being a proud and positive role model for her Inuit people. She uses her skill with an ulu to make a living and teach others about her work and traditions because she feels they are important, and others now recognize the contributions of her skills, art, and culture. In my case, my cultural group has never really felt such belonging, such pride, or such motivation to be activists on our own behalf. On the contrary, we are still often portrayed as jokes. This is a sad thing for children in this situation who may have great potential. Maybe it's past time to change this.
Young Lady, one of the three things that I'm afraid of in life is a "woman with a knife/sharp instrument". I don't mean any disrespect by this (so PLEASE don't come after me!!!) but you are a Very Beautiful Young Lady!!! Love your smile and laugh! Congrats on your winning!!!
she seems like a very happy person and she has a great attitude and work ethic. Keep up the great work and thank you for teaching me what an ulu is.
This is like the definition of a good work ethic, this lady is a bad ass.
Looks like sanji's future wife.
@@Leprutz Bruh I could see him discovering the ulu/mezzaluna as a cooking power up moment for Sanji
@@paulsalterego8700 true that. Lol

"Ayyeee." Got me crackin up.
Lol you know she’s a real NDN when shes saying aye 😂
What an uplifting spirit and attitude. She is a joy.
I meant to google "hulu" but I figured I could spare 2min. Now I know what an ulu is.
Her positivity is absolutely infectious.
Excellent video! Thanks. Excellent skills and personality. Very talented lady.
Because of her I know what an Ulu is now. Amazing person!!! Keep it up~

Hey! I am thankful to have stumbled upon this competition. The fastest woman with an ulu! What a personality. Love her spunk! 😊
Fantastic! You're an inspiration. Great to see you taking pride in your culture and demonstrating your skills. Congratulations!

Awesome lady! I took home an ULU thinking it was a herb cutter, only then that I learnt it’s more than that. Thank you.

Awesome work !! And you display a great personality with lots of positive energy ! You motivated me , great job.
That is really cool. I'm a vegan (not Inuit) and I can appreciate doing things fast with fresh produce. Much respect 🙏🏻😊

Awesome smile and attitude!
Besides being the fastest woman with an ulu, she seems like a great person in general.

Great spirit
I would be proud to have this woman as a daughter or daughter in law
I just finished forging a knife not really knowing what I was making. Now I know what I've made was an ulu. Thank you.
I think I'm in love 😍
Seriously though ... what a strong and beautiful role model.
That woman can open up a fish more quickly and skillfully than I can unzip my own winter jacket. Dang.
She's a beauty!
Great vid, but I need more details about how an ulu is maintained and actually used. Thx.
Beautiful.
Nice job of cleaning the fish too. 😊
Well said, proud woman! :)
Greetings from Rainer Winkler!
I would marry her in a heartbeat ❤️
Love it. Inuit people have an amazing tough culture.
It's just Inuit lol, in our language Inuit means people (no disrespect it just sounds funny to me)

Wow that's amazing! I can't believe how fast you are?
Never make a woman angry who is skilled at using an ulu.
very cool
It’s is a cutting competition not a get me the most geo cut percentage competition
Gorgeous woman!
That's pretty cool
GREAT!!!!
Giddy Up, you can ulu, amazing skills! 👍🏼
Great video,nice job

You Rock!
Aaaaye! Lol I love it! Awesome skills! 💖
Oh I love her
Yes young lady you are a beast with that ulu very impressive
What’s her name
Just saw this woman on tv like an hour ago and suddenly she's in my suggestions. Ha
Respect 👍🏾
Beautiful lady .. amazing skill .. 👍👍👍
Something like Marques Brownlee
Just slices like butter
Most beautiful. Love your accent
Would really have liked to see the process from start to finish without interruptions and jumps.
What ulu do you use, any recommendations?
I'm sorry but the truth is my mom does this stuff just as fast and talks a good conversation

Who she?

You sound like one of those "I'm white and raised poor, I didn't have white Privilege" people
Yes Maam thats fast.😁
and shes so pretty too
Я восхищаюсь этой девушкой!
Wow I'm in ❤️😍
West Village
she's so attractive; good skills, not politically correct, beautiful, great attitude
Never used an Ulu but I'll tangle with her
My mother was 13 second for the fish hanging and drying
I (think) the lady may have done that before !
I love how you barely show any ulu being used
Men lo- actually y’know what? Fish AND men fear her. Everyone fears her. Homegirl’s got the skills to pay the bills and destroy the bodies.
She's beautiful
The most skilled women in the kitchen ARE the most desirable!
Damn she has some big and sharp teeth
She's so cute!
There's probably a Japanese sushi grand Tokyo super chef somewhere that could Ulu a piece like that in 9.2 seconds
She has good spirit on another note

A little less back story and purpose telling. Just show a continuous film of her preparing the fish. She can tell us the rest later.
That is a good wife
Wish I could find an Alaskan wife like that
I love her awesome tribal facial tats. I think it’s great how tribal cultures are reembracing everything that colonialism took away from them. 💜
