  • Me performing the Mazurka in A Minor by F.F. Chopin, Op. 67 No:4. The instrument is an electronic Yamaha Clavinova CLP 320.
The Mazurka in A Minor is another perfect example why Chopin is immortal for his relatively short and intimate pieces in contrast to his contemporaries. It also reflects the authentic romanticism of Polish spirit perfectly. The word "Mazurek" derives from "Mazur" the inhabitant of Mazovia, an ancient Polish region. "Mazurka" means "dance of the mazur".
Chopin created his own form of Mazurka and composed 69 (recorded) mazurkas. Chopin tried to make his mazurkas more technically interesting by furthering their chromaticism and harmony, along with using classical techniques, such as counterpoint and fugues.
The mazurka in A Minor is, in my humble opinion, one of the most romantic mazurkas, on par with Op. 50-3 and 17-4.
I began piano at age 31 (2 years ago) by myself through Synthesia. A lawyer from Turkey, my profession, my nationality and my age are hardly considered compatible for learning piano yet my passion for Chopin's music since a very early age gave me the edge. I simply felt the urge the honor the memory of the great master who was with me during hard times when nobody else was. This mazurka is my second piece ever.
