I really thought she was gonna fight her. My only thought was « for Pyrrah »😭. Maybe Weiss or Jaune will get revenge tho. So many in line to take her down
@@Jordan-gp3mj Jayne already had his chance. But I'd absolutely LOVE for there to be a rematch. And cinder be like. "Last time this didnt go very well." And then Jaune proceeds to hold his own and kick her ass
I find it thematically appropriate that the one person who has more humanity of the three is one who is considered "artificial" and yet she was the first maiden that didn't steal or warp the trust of a maiden. Penny was also the ONLY person who could get to fria without dying in the process.
I think that's the point of this, and the wonderful irony. Winter is following orders, she's a good soldier, she doesn't debate the moral consequences of her actions and is focused entirely on efficiency and the required results. Ultimately Winter's more a machine at this point than Penny is. I also find it wonderfully ironic that despite James sporting heavy cybernetics and seeming very logical and solid, he is actually one of the most wildly emotional characters in the show.
"The Universe has a way of leading you to the place you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be there." - Men in Black International. Destiny and Fate do not decide how or when things happen. They Only decide the consequences for the path someone takes not the road someone walks down or the way of life, in this, you can see Penny's hesitance for a second as she was going to touch Fria, scared of what could happen (In my opinion.) but she is dedicated to her path, Fria was there waiting for something, it was Penny. The only one who had the heart and Soul wether it was artificial or not to be with her purely to comfort her in fria's final moments, unlike the others who wanted to gain her power.
@@Philweasel I notice she has anger issues and is weak to taunting too etc. she to obedient slave to her job responsibility etc. Maybe brainwash she take her job really serious and knows the stakes
@@joshua211111 See this is why I think Penny's development was one of the best things about this volume. Yes, Winter was the next one in line to do it and she had the right mentality about it by seeing it as a privilege and honour but I knew this would backfire later and it did. On the subject of Winter as well, her pride is seriously hurt but she did the right thing and bought time for the RWBY crew to get away. Winter may have been ideal but she wasn't the *right* choice, In other circumstances perhaps. Penny was the right person for it. She didn't crave the power, she cared about the maiden herself and did the transfer out of necessity.
@@Philweasel Amazing observation! What an astounding development! It's like Penny pulled a Pinocchio and became more human and Winter is Pinocchio in reverse.
@@CLNCJD94 well a big part of Penny's story in vol 7 is Penny not feeling like a real person, everyone in mantle is calling her a weapon and it makes her question herself despite her friends reassuring her. Fast forward to the Winter and Penny VS Cinder fight and penny goes to help Freya (the winter maiden) and she is in full maiden mode with an icy BLUE aura, her mind is failing and she's asking if Penny is the one...only a young lady (see: HUMAN) can become a maiden and wham bam she a real girl with no strings to hold her down
Has anyone noticed that Cinder’s grimm arm has taken over the rest of her arm and is up to her shoulder ._. Before she still had her upper arm, now its completely grimm
I love how Fria shows Cinder just how outmatched she is. Cinder has had the full powers of the maiden for *maybe* a year, whereas Fria has had it for literal decades. She has honed her powers beyond anything Cinder could begin to comprehend
Isnt it interesting though? Off topic, but the fact that cinder had her powers for about a year and displayed pretty much equal amounts of power to raven, who had her powers for like at least 5-10years is pretty impressibe
@@lunakuna8188 im gonna say that when i watch that fight, raven didn't really use her maiden powers as opposed to her sword. I'm pretty sure she used it to bounce off of, make a giant sword and shoot cinders feet

Slowly? She looks like she's in a death spiral already. I give her two seasons, maybe less, before she either bites off more than she can chew, or finally outlives Salem's patience.
I mean technically the last time it paralyzed her which it should’ve done the same thing again ensuring that she would’ve been decapitated but they forgot that apparently I swear these guys are like the writers for Game of Thrones
@@charlottewalnut3118 Except that when Ruby opens her Silver Eyes, that seems to be the moment Cinder decides to flee. At that point, the mission's ended in failure and now someone with the power to injure her because of being hybridized with Grimm shows up, I'd escape and try to fight another day too.
In my opinion, I think that Penny was a better candidate to receive the maiden powers because she legitimately cares about others. For instance, part of the reason the old man in the four maidens’ legend (Oz) was due to their kindness towards him and their caring nature. Sure Winter has more of a grasp of the responsibilities that may come with being a maiden, but I feel she might be too hardened due to the abuse from the Schnee household and her loyalty to Ironwood and the Atlas military. Though we know she has a soft spot for Weiss, Winter would almost be like a controllable Cinder if she would’ve received the Winter maiden’s powers.
Winter also cares about others. Sure, Winter is more of a “tough love” kind of person but she *does* care about the wellbeing of others, she just does what she thinks is right even if others don’t agree. Her abuse and trauma does get in the way a bit but she was still worthy of the maiden powers, just like Penny.
the problem I have with her getting the power though is that she isn't female. She is a robot. She does have aura, which came from her father but she isn't a real living thing. I get her story is that she is a gender bent Pinocchio and this is how she probably became a "real girl" but it still doesn't make sense. We were told the Maiden's power could only go into a female. If it could go into a machine then one could harness the power of the maiden into something like a pistol or a battleship or something like that. I mean its inconsistent writing at the end of the day. I don't mind penny getting the power if it made sense. There wasn't some oh shit moment and the main cast knows how maiden powers work at this point. If there was some reaction like "how did penny get the power!?" or some sort of questioning about what they knew about maiden powers it could have been fine. As it is though, this contradicts what we know about maiden powers.
Lith It’s theorized that gender eligibility is determined by gender identity, so as long as you think of yourself as a girl you can get the powers, this is just a theory and though I’d like it to be true (for the sake of all the trans people out there) it *is* just a theory and I do agree it should be brought up in the show proper or at least addressed to avoid confusion. As for a pistol or battleship getting the power that isn’t possible, Penny got the powers because she has an aura and other types of machinery don’t, although it *is* a male aura the first paragraph should address that issue.
@@itsanna0735 If atlas is capable of creating an artificial life form capable of qualifying as female for the sake of the maiden powers then they would be able to do the same. Instead of giving penny the body she has now, put her mind in a giant battle ship or a pistol. If its gender identity then the form she takes wouldn't matter. its how she views herself. on one hand I wouldn't mind if maiden powers rely on gender identity but on the other hand I don't trust the current writing staff to handle that type of story. they could always prove me wrong but they just haven't delivered on story in multiple volumes.
Not to mention that i can't think of a surefire way to take down someone who is feels no pain, doesn't breathe, is immune to drugs and poison, has armor for skin and can fly. The same ambush Amber was taken out in Penny would've just deleted.
Rwby fanbase: People screaming and spending hours writing complaints in the comments about why the show is either terribly written or are defending the show for its good writing. Literally me in the background: Ooo, green flaming eyes instead of blue? Cool~
why the hell would the flames be blue wtf... The colours of the flames are linked to the eyes... raven eyes were red she has red flames, freya had blue eyes she had blue fire, penny has green eyes she green fire.... you don't have to be a genius to see that lmao
tunderdiamant well people like me would normally think that the flame would be linked to the “color” of the season. assuming pink, green, orange, blue. flame linked to eye color is a much more pleasing design, but even after coming back to this scene i had forgotten it was linked to eye color, so i was surprised again to see the green flame lmao.
I really loved this fight. I also like the variance I see between Winter and Weiss' fighting styles. Weiss relies on her summons for added field presence and threat. Winter utilizes hers mostly for utility coupled with her swordplay. People say Winter was nerfed but I disagree. At this point, Cinder is one of the strongest characters in the show. Her maiden powers, Grimm enhancement, and base combat abilities (which were very good to begin with) make her able to take on both Penny and Winter by herself. She's essentially in a league all her own with Raven. That being said, both Penny and Winter do an amazing job making up for the power difference with cohesion and good tactical abilities. Even though Winter's aura is knocked out by a powerful fire blast, she was able to go toe to toe with Cinder quite a few times throughout this. Not only this, but she is able to hold off Cinder's fury of attacks WITHOUT ANY AURA and hold her off long enough so that Penny can get the power. The fact she survives this encounter is a testament to her strength and capability. That's just my opinion and analysis that nobody asked for lol.
I also think that if the whole battle was fought on the ground from the beginning penny and Winter had a much better chance of winning. Seeing what happened to Amber, we now know it is possible to beat a maiden without maiden powers and Cinder was struggling with fending them off both. It was the flying that ended up giving her the most advantage.
This scene answers an important question. In volume four, when the Evil team is wondering why Ruby's silver eyes hurt Cinder, Salem says it's because of the maiden power, but here, Ruby uses her silver eyes, and Penny is totally unharmed. So I think that Cinder is vulnerable to the silver eyes because she has that grim bug inside her, which she used to take Amber's powers originally.
Not the bug; When Cinder used that glove on Amber, she's exposed herself to the essence of Grimm despite having Aura. That "burning" feeling she was talking about was her hunger for power and destruction, and she continues to hunt for more to fill in the emptiness she's had since her abusive childhood.
There is a split second, right after she cuts Cinder's arm, that Winter looks at Penny and Freya and has a chance to strike. If she knocked Penny aside and killed Freya in that moment, there would be a good chance that she would be the one to inherit the power - especially given Freya's mental&cognitive state, which would probably prevent her from decidedly focusing on Penny and instead would have her think of Winter's face as it would be the last thing she saw. Winter is the best soldier in the world, which also means great skills of tactics and decision making. She must've realised that, and you can see it in her eyes. Yet, in that split second, she decided to focus on Cinder instead. I see that as a sign that despite being a "perfect soldier", she knows what's right in her heart. I believe we will see a redemption arc for her in the next 2 volumes.
I completely agree !! People saying she naively follow Ironwood. But she chose to give up the maiden opportunity by focusing on the bigger threat and that was to stop Cinder from getting the maiden power. I find Winter very honorable. I hope at some point, she will become even more independent with her thinking.
And that is why Winter is a much better character then Penny, Who kept the truth from Friya so she could take the maiden power for herself.. Which is the story was written well, Would never have happened, But oh well
@@madison5857 None of that makes any sense. The writers set Penny up to become the maiden without thinking about it. Penny gets to Friya without being bothered by the cold which makes no sense, Metal is not immune to cold and will freeze no different then anything else. Friya asks Penny if she is the one, Penny simply says I.. While side Glancing towards where Winter is, Thus she is not telling Friya that she is not the one Ironwood chose, That is how she kept the truth from her. Cinder comes back in and goes to attack Friya and Penny does absolutely nothing, She just sits there and makes no attempt to protect Friya. Winter comes back and attacks Cinder to protect Friya and Penny continues to sit there doing nothing until Friya dies. Penny easily could have gotten up and attacked Cinder when she arrived, Giving Winter the chance to talk to Friya and become the maiden. But she did not.. She just sat there... Because apparently she forgot how to get up off her ass and fight.
@@JamieLee-zc4yu ok l sort of understand where your coming from but i want to add a few things. Keep in mind this is a fictional world their metal could be different then real world metal. So that claim isn’t really valid cause in RWBY world there could be a metal that doesn’t freeze. Penny’s hesitation to get Winter is also understandable. Friya just told her that she ready to die. Penny doesn’t know how long until it happens. In the time it could take her to blast through the ice and get Winter, Friya could die and the maiden powers be lost. Plus it’s consistent to the disagreement Penny and Winter had before this scene about Ironwoods orders to leave mantle, so Penny might be hesitant to give Winter this power after hearing agree with letting the people of mantle die. Cinder then comes in and Penny does cover Friya with her body in an attempt to protect her. We don’t know if she would have gotten up and fought because Winter comes in not a second later. Why they don’t switch places I don’t know but it falls on both Winter and Penny. Winter saw the Friya’s condition and still chose to engage with Cinder instead of be by her side. When Penny was sitting there by Friya she was confused, this is most likely one of the few times she has to think for herself. She was also still contemplating Ironwood’s order. This emotional battle is part of Penny’s entire story, she starts to experience human emotions and has to decide to listen to her feelings or continue to follow orders. This decision didn’t come out of nowhere the whole volume the writers have been setting up Penny experiencing different emotions and the differences between her and Winter.
"You elites are all the same, you think hoarding power means you'll have it forever, but it just makes the rest of us hungrier and I refuse to starve" is such a brilliant line that can be applied to so many socio-political systems of the world we live in.
Something I saw pointed out on Tumblr really interested me in the development of Cinder and how she fights. Back in volume 1 Ruby says that a huntsman’s weapons are “a part of us, and extension of our souls.” We see examples of this in other characters: The knives on Ren’s Storm Flower are the same shape as his fathers knife is one of the obvious examples. In the flashbacks we see of her in volume 3, Cinder has a weapon, twin swords that double as a bow. When she takes part of the Fall Maiden powers from Amber, she throws her weapon to the ground. She threw away part of her soul for power. However, she still used glass constructs of them in volume 2 and 3. That is until, she gains the full maiden powers and looses her arm. Now, she doesn’t summon the familiar tools. She’s casting aside her soul for power.
I mean...she did allow herself to be infused with a Grimm, a *literal* soulless monster, in order to steal the Maiden powers in the first place. But that point/theme with the weapons definitely further reinforces the idea of Cinder throwing away her humanity and what makes her herself, all just to try and gain a modicum of power.

If anyone does kill Cinder I want it to be Jaune, since she (in my opinion) did the most damage to him out of everyone, she took away everything he knew, killed his love, almost killed Weiss who holds a special place in his heart, and I want it to be brutal for both Cinder AND Jaune, so there’s that whole lesson about revenge and how it will cost you greatly. If anybody disagrees with me please CALMY and RATIONALLY tell me why
I personally want Ruby to help him fight her though, since a battle between her and Ruby has been foreshadowed since Volume 2, and Ruby saw Pyrrha die so she has every right to be there as Jaune does. Ruby can use her silver eyes to weaken Cinder, then Jaune could attack her while she's stunned. Jaune got close to hitting Cinder in Volume 5 and Ruby has more control over her eyes now, so it just might work.
I questioned how killing Cinder would have drawbacks for Jaune, but I imagine Salem would be pissed as hell if she lost the fall maiden, even if she's incompetent

It’s sad to see the previous winter maiden go. When I watched the fight for the first time, I had a feeling that Winter wasn’t going to be the next maiden. Something just told me that Penny was the one. I was like “I CALLED IT! I SO CALLED IT!” when the transfer was made. I know that Penny will be a great winter maiden, not just for the fact that she can’t technically die like a normal human being.
Since it was revealed at the end that Watts is still alive, I think there's a possibility that Penny could be hacked. Her entire character arc has been getting in touch with her humanity (becoming human), so subverting that in a believable way not only adds drama but gives Salem's forces more credence. That said, there's always the rebuttal that if Penny was hackable, then it could've been done during either the beacon invasion or when she was framed to yield similar if not better results.
Actually the idea that Penny could even be one also makes no sense since her soul only exists because it leeches off of a man's soul. Her soul is literally a piece from a guy's soul.. what if Pietro had made Penny's body as a boy and deemed it as such.. literally the same thing as what Penny is now? So.. wtf qualified Penny?.. she's a husk?.. look at me.. over analyzing something that I know the writer's only did for shock value.

(Despite the very mechanical body)
I actually loved this concept for two reasons. 1) It gives credence to my theory that Cinder gained immortality when she was bested by Raven. The imagery between Cinder and Salem's dunking seems to be a nod to this sentiment. The tree at the vault and the one in the land of light weren't too dissimilar after all. If the pools of darkness still exist, so too should the fountain of creation, no? Why else would her Grimm arm suddenly regrow? No Grimm has ever been seen to grow back its limbs. 🤷🏻 2) The power of the maiden recognizes female as how the character identifies, not where the aura comes from. From a biological standpoint, Penny is neither gender because after all, she's a robot, but her soul, so to speak, is innately female, even though her aura came from her father. I really appreciate that the concept of how the power recognizes people is more to do with the state of mind, rather than a state of biology, which I think is a very powerful statement.

6:01 I love how helpless Cinder looks in this moment. Everything she has done to get to this moment failed. The winter maiden powers are a part of a newer and agile maiden, outmatched in number, and is met by Ruby who is getting more control of her eyes by the day. She lost control of everything - her opportunity, her sanity, and is slowly losing more and more of her humanity.
I just realized. A man can't inherit the Maiden Powers. Penny, part of Pietro's soul, got the powers from Fria. Identity must be part of gender eligibility.
The show Supergirl did something similar with transgender Nia receiving the dreamer powers that are only passed on to one daughter every generation. Personally I like that idea
even more than that, penny is a robot, not a living thing which means she isn't even a girl to begin with. She is a construct not a biological being. If maiden powers work on gender identity rather than biological gender I'd be ok with that too (though it would bring up some interesting points in how it actually knows, how it checks neurological functions, how it tests against whether or not you are lying, etc). As it stands, it makes no sense that penny would get the maiden powers, but I mean at the end of the day we all know who is writing the show and their writing has never been that good.
I disagree bc weiss (kara eberely) has improved a lot especially looking back at her v1 voice. Yang (Barbara Dunkelman) has certainly gotten better imo bc in volume 1-2 I used to cringe sometimes at her line deliveries.
I don't get how ruby got tired from such a small blast. Yet she had killed that Leviathan after that mech fight and was just fine. Also Winter looks hot with her hair down
She didn't kill the leviathan tho. She only covered it in a thin layer of stone that paralyzed long enough for Cordovin to kill it. And before you mention the wyvern, she didn't kill that either. Again, it's only petrified.
@@MentalMeles you're right but still how big was that blast to compared to this 1? Just something that I noticed just like how Weiss has been shown to be able to do a lot with her glyphs before getting tired now. Yet they can't decide how draining Ruby's eyes should be.
I know how crossed the FNDM is, but can we just agree that Cinders VA was AMAZING in this fight? The way she made Cinder sound so desperate for power. It was really some of her best work
I guess I am the 500th person to like this video. When I first seen Cinder's outfit I thought it was a micro miniskirt but I was wrong. It's a pair of shorts. I love the "I refuse to starve" line.

Makes you wonder tho. CAN a person hold two Maiden powers at once? I mean we don't know for sure if its really possible or Cinder is just really confident her body can hold that much power. Thoughts anyone?
Yes. Ozma (prior to giving away the maiden powers) held all the maiden powers plus his (which is roughly equal to a maiden's power) and the Branwen's in a normal human body.
I don't think it's possible to do it *naturally*, IE, through the usual process of Maidens passing on their powers and either choosing their own successors or random chance just plopping the power into someone. The whole process through which Cinder acquired the Fall Maiden powers was completely unnatural and pretty much an abomination, so I feel like her Grimm arm probably *could* let someone keep siphoning off the Maiden powers until you had all four in theory....but I don't know if in *practice* it'd be able to be done, might not be possible to physically contain and embody all of the Four Maidens without consequences.
I love how until this episode, everyone just assumed Fria was weak and frail because she was old. I remember watching this for the first time. The second Fria grabbed Cinder’s hand, I instinctually yelled out “She’s still a Maiden, bitch!”
I just kinda thought of something... if they kill off Penny it wouldn’t make sense... Cause maiden powers are transferred through thought of the last person they think of ? With that it’s safe to assume Penny would think about Ruby because since the beginning she’s the one who treated her human and I just don’t think RT would give her maiden powers
Plus Ruby becoming a *winter* maiden just doesn’t fit with her character. I’m pretty sure all the girls are gonna get powers eventually but winter would definitely go to Weiss.
itsanna07 yea I’m pretty sure by the end of the series team RWBY will end up being maidens. If I had to guess Weiss is winter, Yang is summer, Blake is fall, and ruby is spring

One Angry Boi I honestly think yang and ruby are switchable. I mainly put yang as summer because of her personality. If there was someone who represents the sun in that group it’s yang. But I do get ruby being summer because of her mom
When Cinder caught a glimpse of Ruby with fear in her eyes and fled before being exposed to the Silver Eyes, it's a vague reference as to the way Yang exposed Raven's cowardice and fear of Salem and told her off by taking the Relic of Knowledge, knowing that it along with having the Spring Maiden powers will make her an easy target for Salem to track her down.
"You think hoarding power will means you'll have it forever. But it just makes the rest of us hungrier! _"And I refuse to starve."_ That is impactful. That last line was like she was she was reminding herself of how powerless she was once... amazing.
In the midst of a battle, seeing power rage- Penny runs in without a second thought to not stop Freya, but because she was worried. "Are you ok?" Is the first question she asks and then when she says she’s ready, Penny goes to tell her the truth and fully acknowledges she'd die. Penny also stays by her side and prepares to take the hit from Cinder. Penny is one of the best people to be a maiden, why? Cause she's compassionate and careful. She, out of all people, has discovered the damage that can be caused to others if you are not. I love her and can’t wait to see the next season
I like to think that the winter maiden was so powerful because she didn't do nothing. In the story the OG winter maiden conveyed the importance to sit and reflect, so it kinda makes sense that that would be the way utilize and grow the power.
I wish the powers were more solidified for each maiden, like we have only seen winter use ice, and fall seems to use fire, but then spring uses fire lightning and ice
I feel bad for Winter in these scenes and the fight. Her entire career most of her life has been dedicated to becoming the Winter Maiden. Her boss and mentor Iron Wood groomed her to be the Winter Maiden, the next Maiden it was her purpose. Anyone who knew about the Maiden were basically pushing Winter every which way to make her the perfect Winter Maiden. So I feel her pain when she saw Freya (Winter Maiden) with Penny because she realized that everything she worked for was nothing now. And she now she has lost part of what gave her purpose
Please.. they'll probably just make Ruby the summer maiden or something BORING like that. Penny was honestly the worst pick to become one and it was only done because of a shock value since she didn't really have much fans backing her to be picked. She's BORING.
@Expose Thy Truth Don't blame me that Penny has no character outside of being Ruby's yes man. Let me guess... she'll likely do some badly defined flashy magic attacks like Raven did😂😂😂. I've already seen an experienced Maiden.. twice.. not impressed with either. Also why can't Ruby be a Maiden?..
Honestly dislike everyone's new fighting style it makes them seem so untrained. Like winter fought Qrow with so much skill and confidence which I dont see here, all she does is block, swing and spin and not utilizing her glyphs to help with movement or defense. She also doesn't use time dilation(I assume she has it since glyphs are hereditary) and her summons and aura was so weak to me and broke fairly easily. No hate tho I just think she was heavily nerfed for someone of her status.
While there's no denying there is a difference between Winter's V3 and V7 fights, you have to remember, she's fighting a Maiden here. One of the most powerful beings on Remnant. Like a boss fight you're substantially undergeared for; Cinder just hits so much harder and depletes Winter's Aura so much faster than Qrow ever could. If you notice in the 1v1 at the end, Cinder is swinging at her so hard she's breaking her own weapon on Winter's.
@@vteccomplex That shouldn't be the excuse, especially when the Maiden is Cinder of all people... the same person that lost all of her major fights after becoming a Maiden. Seriously how do you go from being a top tier fighter able to go toe to toe with Qrow and speed blitzing without even trying and fighting in a previous war with a lot of fighting experience to being scared of fighting Cinder.
@@vteccomplex How is any of what I'm saying not true and how am I making up shit? When Winter and Qrow were first introduced, they were both presented as top tier fighters in rwby. Both of them had recognition from both Ironwood and Ozpin. Both were moving so fast at times during their fight that it sometimes looked like they were teleporting (and this was them not even fighting serious). And both have way more experience from being huntsman for years and fighting in a previous war. And name a single major fight besides Cinder vs Penny/Winter that she actually won after Volume 3 that wasn't the team fight from Volume 4. Because she lost Raven, she had a draw against Neo because both of them wanted to kill Ruby and she lost to Freya because of plot bullshit. So please tell me how any of that shit isn't true, cause I can guarantee you that it is.
*SPOILER* I heard someone on Reddit complain that Winter displayed way too much confidence in handling her maiden power, but all you can see her doing is floating and some snow around her feet. Now, if you ask me what it means "mastery", I'd think of Fria. That's confidence, not to mention she's a "fully realized maiden" as Winter herself said.
I don’t know how people forget that winter was already a master swordswoman and was already in training for the maiden usage but I cannot wait to see her fully realized
I’m glad to see Penny going with Ruby and company, still trying to do right even if it means opposing Salem and Ironwood. At the same time, it is quite satisfying watching Cinder’s smug arrogance collapse as her efforts to gain power are dashed. Poor little sadist. Can dish it out, but can’t take it? Too bad.

Fear the elderly in a profession where they die young
That would be amazing to see (if the have a spin off with the old maidens fria would be terrifying in a fight)
Lith
It’s theorized that gender eligibility is determined by gender identity, so as long as you think of yourself as a girl you can get the powers, this is just a theory and though I’d like it to be true (for the sake of all the trans people out there) it *is* just a theory and I do agree it should be brought up in the show proper or at least addressed to avoid confusion.

Here’s this king 👑
Sooo can we pin this one lol
I also think that if the whole battle was fought on the ground from the beginning penny and Winter had a much better chance of winning. Seeing what happened to Amber, we now know it is possible to beat a maiden without maiden powers and Cinder was struggling with fending them off both. It was the flying that ended up giving her the most advantage.
Time Dilation, bud.
@@MoonfallMidnightwinter needs lighting dust for that
I love Penny's "Are you okay?" She sounds so sincere...
Which is the story was written well, Would never have happened, But oh well
@@JamieLee-zc4yu wait how did penny keep the truth from freya? that makes no sense.

Something I saw pointed out on Tumblr really interested me in the development of Cinder and how she fights. Back in volume 1 Ruby says that a huntsman’s weapons are “a part of us, and extension of our souls.”
We see examples of this in other characters: The knives on Ren’s Storm Flower are the same shape as his fathers knife is one of the obvious examples.

Okay that's kinda funny
If anyone does kill Cinder I want it to be Jaune, since she (in my opinion) did the most damage to him out of everyone, she took away everything he knew, killed his love, almost killed Weiss who holds a special place in his heart, and I want it to be brutal for both Cinder AND Jaune, so there’s that whole lesson about revenge and how it will cost you greatly.
If anybody disagrees with me please CALMY and RATIONALLY tell me why
I concur
Cinder's really done a lot to him, whether she cares to remember it or not.
@@Ammy-q4w That would be ok but Cinder and Jaune fight seems better than a fight involving more Ruby instead of Jaune
And now Cinder's trying to kill his third love (Ruby)
I questioned how killing Cinder would have drawbacks for Jaune, but I imagine Salem would be pissed as hell if she lost the fall maiden, even if she's incompetent
Actual hint of motivation or depth to Cinder’s character? At last, rooster teeth, after seven long volumes... a major antagonist is slightly less flat... thank god

Everyone got a hit on Cinder in this fight.
She should retire.
The music in the background is epic, loved these fight sequences
The animation evolved damn well since first season. Nom I really appreciate watching it.
Im so glad that they didnt make the maiden so weak and helpless that she actually had a better fight against cinder than any of the whole volume

Pyrrha was never a Maiden though, your point falls flat there.

One thing that I thought about when rewatching this clip. Cinder is after the Winter Maidens power, and it was Penny who got the power. Hear me out, it's something else how Cinder had been the one orchestrating the demise of Penny in the past, and now (even though it wasn't Pennys intention or thought process), Penny got back at Cinder. Cinder voice actress was so good in these scenes
I don't like when cinders outfits blends in with the dark back
agreed, makes it hard to see her during the first part of the fight. it's funny how the bottom of her high heels are a bright red we can all see but the inside of her cape is black. if her cape was red on the inside or if she fought with her flaming swords, it would've been easier to see her.

No she isn’t. The only other time she fought was against a very drunk Qrow who was toying with her. The difference in animation style is also a factor

Even as a robot, she was never "not human".
She can have the maiden powers since she has an Aura
I think its meant to be a confirmation that shes a person. She has a soul, mind and body.
Penny has had a soul inside her the entire time. Her creator who we met in this season said this when he met team rwby and team jnr

I like how Winter puts her hand forward and her fingers get burned but then once Penny jumps down she puts her whole head forward.
Thank you! I used a clip from here for my first edit!
2) The power of the maiden recognizes female as how the character identifies, not where the aura comes from.
The Maiden power doesn't define a female based on what you identify as. It defines a female based on what you look like.
@@Ponera-Sama if you say so. By that logic, if a guy looked like a woman they could get a maiden's power. I think I like the comments idea Better.
@@calliecalamity8787 if a guy looked like a woman enough to be completely indistinguishable down to genitalia, then... I guess? But at which point you'd have to start questioning if they count as a guy.
To be fair, she was molded a girl's shell.
Cinder, there is a difference between sating hunger, and being a glutton.
I just realized.
A man can't inherit the Maiden Powers.
Penny, part of Pietro's soul, got the powers from Fria.
Identity must be part of gender eligibility.
I was hoping to have a transgender maiden, but I'll take what I can get.
i think fria’s aura fused with penny, check at 5:36 but penny has pietro’s aura. i dont think aura can depend on gender or whatever
The show Supergirl did something similar with transgender Nia receiving the dreamer powers that are only passed on to one daughter every generation. Personally I like that idea
The whole maiden thing doesn’t make any sense to me tbh
even more than that, penny is a robot, not a living thing which means she isn't even a girl to begin with.
Cinder’s VA is really the only one of the original cast who has IMPROVED! You will not change my mind.
I disagree bc weiss (kara eberely) has improved a lot especially looking back at her v1 voice. Yang (Barbara Dunkelman) has certainly gotten better imo bc in volume 1-2 I used to cringe sometimes at her line deliveries.

Makes you wonder tho. CAN a person hold two Maiden powers at once? I mean we don't know for sure if its really possible or Cinder is just really confident her body can hold that much power. Thoughts anyone?
My guess is no, even more so if they conflict.
the only person i could see able to hold multiple maiden's power is Salem, and thats only because of her immortality
Yes. Ozma (prior to giving away the maiden powers) held all the maiden powers plus his (which is roughly equal to a maiden's power) and the Branwen's in a normal human body.
@@user-bj5ki6sr6c Yeah but wasn't Ozma born from another time where humans COULD hold powerful Magic ?
He'll no I ain't gonna watch her die again, but that would make since
Plus Ruby becoming a *winter* maiden just doesn’t fit with her character.
@@evl952 Yang's summer? Nah, pretty sure Ruby will be Summer; a homage to her mother's name AND Cinder and her got a bone to pick according to story logic.
I really liked Cinder's voice acting during this fight!!! She truly sounds angry and on the brink of insanity 0v0b

I like to think that the winter maiden was so powerful because she didn't do nothing. In the story the OG winter maiden conveyed the importance to sit and reflect, so it kinda makes sense that that would be the way utilize and grow the power.

Pls use the summer maiden and not kill her/him rt
I find it so funny that Ruby just silver eye Cinder again with no hesitation
