      @AleksandrsBrodie  3 роки тому +3

      Yup. :) worth imo.
      Just remember:
      Clock speed affects fps,
      Voltage affects power consumption = heat.
      So if you want higher fps, you can run higher clock speed, which will require a bit higher voltage.
      I generally aim to keep my gpu around 68-72c when under full load and choose clock speed and voltages for that.

    In my opinion, the whole purpose of undervolting is to dramatically increase performance per watt ratio; even if it means sacrificing some raw performance, and this video is a great example.
    For example, I'm running my vintage Fermi, a very hot card, at -50MHz core clock and -180mV undervolt. Temperatures went down from ~90c to low 70c! That's a reduction of almost 20c at a cost of ~5% lower performance!
    And since I play at either 30 or 60FPS locked with vsync, the GPU remains at around ~60c most of the time.

    • @AleksandrsBrodie
      @AleksandrsBrodie  4 роки тому +1

      :D good explanation.
      the whole undervolting concept can help either low your temps or improve performance if you are thermal throttling,
      not to mention safer temps can lead to a longer life span

    • @danieldelillo
      @danieldelillo 3 роки тому +2

      Agreed... I got my RX 480 down to a 73W GPU power limit at the cost of 7% performance, but that requires max tuning and testing all the power states. With a i7-4770s, 16GB ram and RX 480 undervolted I'm drawing around 155-160W at the wall while gaming.

    Update: I eventually got some occasional crashes and freezes in some game. So I found the voltages that works perfectly for my Rx 580 Red Devil 8GB. Been 2 weeks of constant gaming and not a single crash.
    1060-1065-1070-1075-1080v for state 3-7. Anything lower than this, can cause crashes (very rarely and not on all games, but it happens).

    Hey! First off, I must say this tutorial is very nice and detailed, it's hard to find one like yours nowadays! :)
    Also, here's the biggest problem I've got with my PC:
    I bought my (XFX) RX 570 8GB a couple months ago and immediately noticed that it usually goes from 55°C to almost 90°C (from 131°F to 194°F) whenever I open any "demanding" game (Warzone, Mafia Definitive Edition, Rainbow Six, Fortnite, etc.)
    Temperatures also change immediately as if the chip went from Idle to Max temps in a matter of seconds, so I googled a way to lower the temperatures and stumbled upon your video.
    Another problem is that my CPU doesn't have integrated graphics (i3 9100F, can't see anything if I connect my screen to my motherboard) and for that reason, I'm scared of undervolting and/or toasting my GPU.
    So... what would you suggest to get a significant temperature drop to about 79-85°C (174°F-185°F) instead of that absurd 90°C (194°F)?

    • @AleksandrsBrodie
      @AleksandrsBrodie  3 роки тому +2

      ok, first of all, sounds like your card is just one of those hot runner. aka just runs hot out of the box.
      second, I would watch the latest Undervolting guide I made where I show you some settings you can copy and try.
      to clarify, undervolting in the AMD software is not a permanent thing, the settings go away when you remove them or restart your pc.
      If you want the settings to stick each time you load a game, you need to set up a game profile.
      So I would try copying the settings I put in my latest video, and see how that goes. If your system crashes/freezes with those settings set in your game profile for COD warzone. then inscrease the voltages a bit.
      Also make sure to set a more aggressive fan curve either way, in either MSI afterburner or in the AMD drivers.
      1. copy undervolt settings
      2. if game crashes, bump up the voltages a bit +20mv on states 3-7 then load up your game and try again.
      3. make sure you have a more aggressive fan curve set
      you can only damage your GPU or make it toast if you run it at 85c all the time or increase the voltages past the stock 1150mv.
      I think i explain that in this video as well.

I'm currently running a RX 480, and my Clock is 1266 max and I'm tinkering with the settings still, but undervolting around 1000 mV. Might go down more, not sure. • @AleksandrsBrodie
      @AleksandrsBrodie  3 роки тому +1

      glad it helped.
      Its simple, you stop lowering voltage when your system crashes :), some cards can run with a lower voltage. i just put 1020mv as a sane voltage so that it would work for most peoples cards. but as i mention, the silicon quality of each card varies.
      So you can try lowering the voltage -10mv each time. some games will need a higher voltage than others. if you are happy with your temps at 1000mv, you can also just leave it at that.
      Its up to you :)
      make sure you stress test the card after you make voltage changes

    I'm now at 0.900 V and 1220 MHz! Power consumption is down about a third at 90W and it's stable so far. To get lower than 0.950 V you have to lower VRAM voltage too.
    I have RX 580 (ASUS Dual 4GB) and the with stock settings it's not really a quiet or cool card..

      you are very welcome.
      you can also consider lowering your core clock a bit more so you can lower your core voltage even more which will make a bigger difference.
      i would aim to get temps down to 72-74c.

    The thing is with MSI Afterburner for undervolting any GPU is going into the curve editor which the skin that is easiest to use it is MSI Mystic which you can balance it out compared to the example you were showing.

      @@AleksandrsBrodie Yep cause the next video after yours is titled "Undervolting Older GPUs" which the guy even mentions that using the curve editor is just like the method you used that you would get the same results which tbh i like using MSI Afterburner more because it is just easier no matter what GPU i would end up using.

    Very helpful bro thanks! One thing Idu is why didnt amd just give us a slider for voltages like the newer rx 5000 /6000/7000 series instead of all these states but your video is very helpful thanks..:)
