That's a total of two community made active duty pool maps since CSGO's release. If that isn't a reason to not bother trying to get your maps added to the game then I don't know what is.
What's interesting about Anubis is that it was introduced into the professional map pool, where as remade Cache was not. My personal theory on this is that Valve bought the rights to Anubis (confirmed on Twitter) but couldn't for Cache. Valve likely didn't want to introduce a map they didn't have 100% control over, perhaps not wanting to rely on somebody else to update/tweak/have creative input on a map they were going to sponsor tournaments on. Therefore, we have Anubis but no Cache. I don't think Cache will ever be played professionally again, unfortunately. I also think it's a better pugging map than Mirage as well, so it's pretty unlucky that it won't ever enter the pool again for systems like Faceit.
Also, the new Cache with everything being green looks like arse. Not as bad as Ancient where everything is so dark CTs are just camouflaged, but quite bad nonetheless.

fun fact: the AWP is actually based off the AWM, the developers of Old School CS Accidentally got the Wrong Round Capacity when researching the AWM; the AWM actually had 5 Round Capacity and not 10.
The AWP and AWM are different, the AWM fires 338 Lapua Magnum and has 5 round, the AWP has a 10 round mag in 308 Winchester which is less powerful (but still deadly). Hit me with the nerd comments
I preferred the M4A4 even before the nerf, yet, just like you, I always used the M4A1-S because I cannot rely on having a good CT economy before a match even starts. It's so good to see popular UA-camrs propose making all guns purchaseable in all matches; it is such an easy change that would massively change the popularity of ALL equippable guns. It should have always been a thing, but with this idea gaining some popularity, I am hopeful that Valve may finally experiment with it.

I was expecting WarOwl to cover the update and give his thoughts on it and he's absolutely right. The AWP now will be less spammy which is a good change and it is its second nerf ever, the first one being the slow movement while using the scope.

Im definitely unhappy with the window in mid and the fact that you can hide in there, hope they are gonna remove it. But yeah, in general an interesting and well working layout.

Also the A1 is now worse then it was pre-4 shot kill update because due to the drop off, it's not a 5 shot at every range. At very long ranges like dust long or overpass long it can take up to 6 bullets to kill, and at long ranges such as mirage top mid to window it takes 1 headshot + 2 chest shots instead of a 2 shot kill. Keep in mind pre-4 shot kill update the a1 was also $2900 and it was still the clearly inferior rifle and now it's worse at every position besides extremely short, which is ironic since the A4 was used anyway for short to medium range due to its higher firerate (it would have a lower ttk if you hit a hs).
There are 5 bullets in the Awp, and 5 players on the enemy team. If you hit all your shots, you won't need to reload. Actually a pretty interesting change
letting us equip both would be so cool. The ability to adapt and use different guns for different positions is ideal imo. plus it would fit with valve’s philosophy of each gun having a place in the meta.
I tried watching 2 other m4 updates videos before coming to Warowl. That was a mistake. They were not very good. Thanks for showing the distance differences instead of guessing what it would be like those other guys

I have a word about m4a1s. I will still use it, I think that thanks to its price and slight damage and recoil advantage it will stay as a better choice on average. I want to see more a4 usage though, I think that anchors can start using it now more often.
i see little reason to buy it over the mp7 honestly. if i'm not mistaken it's more accurate over long ranges but it's still a doodoo gun and i'd rather save like 500 and buy an mp7

Honestly, I welcome the new update to a degree...though, I could REALLY go for a re-worked Cobble or Train! Keep up the great content as always, WarOwl! :)
I think the map pool and pro-circuit would benefit greatly from a more regimented seasonal approach. 2 seasons a year, each capped by a major. After the major you can bring in a different map to the pool, perhaps the least played map (in pro games) gets cycled out, but not if it was introduced in the last one or two seasons. This would force teams to play new maps without replacing the ones which work better (perhaps if a map has been in for a long time they could choose to cycle it out, although I would argue that inferno and mirage are fairly well balanced). It would be good also if they wouldn't put old maps back in the cycle for a couple seasons to give a chance to playtest any new updates. I think it would be better also to announce which map will be cycling in a couple months in advance to give plenty of time to find clipping issues etc to make sure that the map is suitable for competitive play.
Dust 2 was my favorite map ever, played it first time over 20 years ago. I did quit CS like 10 years ago, only returning to CS:GO for a month, getting to supreme and quitting. So many memories playing D2. Had many ESL 5v5's where I dominated with AWP. It was a perfect map to me but it was also challenging since everyone had it mastered to perfection. Ive spent thousands of hours of my life playing Dust 2. Crazy.
The AWP is pretty much my go to - and I'm quite happy with the change. With 10 rounds it's far too forgiving for a weapon that can kill in one hit and having less ammo makes it more like a sniper where you have to pick your shots, and not a cod gun you use to 360 no scope round corners with. It does get boring sometimes when you know you can just hold off an entire team because they're too afraid to push the AWP that's been a pain in their arse and you've got enough bullets to ace twice.
@@berni2905 the more limited ammo makes every shot count, a missed shot is far more punishing. It makes watching or being an awper far more tense. A missed shot could make all the difference, whereas before, you could get away with it if you were quick and skillful.
I would love to see the map pool change after each major, however, I think at least two maps should be replaced each "season". Whether an old map makes a return or a new map gets added doesn't matter, there just needs to be changes.
Thought about this when you mentioned enemies counting AWP shots, would the AWP nerf be an indirect decoy grenade buff? You could potentially cover the sound of exactly how many shots you’ve fired, although you wouldn’t see the tracer so it does have its flaws.
Counting awp shots won't have an impact. The enemy can hear the sound of the shot but not of the reload. Meaning you could reload anytime in between the five shots
My gripe with Dust2's removal is that Valve actually killed the map in the pro scene. Before the T Spawn change, the map would always oscillate between being the third and fourth most-played map in the top 30. After the update, it killed the map to the point it went from 3rd to 7th.
Doubt the weapon changes will do much. One rarely spams their AWP and you should always be reloading when it is safe anyway. And for the M4A1-S well..... you're supposed to be aiming for the head at that distance anyway.
I guess Canals is way too hard for pros to play each other on... Many people would buy aug and sg probably and awp would be really strong, but i still think its the map with most potential
The A site side of the map is dreadful, but the rest of the map I absolutely love. I honestly think if the A half of the map got reworked it would be much better and more people would like it, but Valve have moved on to making basic 'squares and alleyways' Ancient, which just feels like a Valorant map to me. I hope they replace Mirage soon as well, there are so many good community maps that deserve some love, the map making scene for this game is such a blessing and not even possible with the way most other shooters are, a very unique community for such an e-sports heavy competitive game.

But mid and B were changed even more, map was so much more diverse and allowed much more creativity. But it demanded people to learn the angles and thats why they took out the best spices. A) Do you think decoy nades will take over a slot in competitve? An awper can get a decoy, throw it and have the other team count the shots and rush? B) Do you think the decoy needs to be changed just for this? Because if an awper throws a decoy, does the decoy shoot more than five awp shots now? Would that give it away that they are not there or at least using a decoy to render this strat useless? The awper would be the only person to have an awp decoy... so would he sacrifice a flash, nade, or molly? Hmmmmm... Love you, WarOwl. I would legit like to hear your opinion on these two ideas.
Bring back Cobble. Also why Valve hasn't just consistently swapped large portions of the map pool after every major completely eludes me. Like, there's SO many quality competitive maps to choose from, they should have had a consistent system in place for constantly changing the map pool every Major to keep things fresh. Like, why not swap half of the map pool each year? Then swap the other half next year. It forces people that want to succeed competitively to adapt to new maps all the time, which is healthy for not just competition but ALSO for viewership in tournaments.

An m4a1 u can't really kill an enrmy at long range with 1 headshot + 1 shot in the body. Try to make it on dust 2 long/b tunnels/mid or on A mirage ticket to t ramp. The enemy is gonna be on 1-2 hp but still not dead
What do you think of a serious proposition for a grenade launcher which can fire flashbang rounds or smoke rounds (impacts and further and more accurate), an expensive utility which you can alter what grenade you want it to fire, and it either loads a grenade from your inventory or spawns with one and occupies the slot. Of course a new gun is a big deal in CS:GO, hell, I've been playing since 1.6 on my shit computer at the time, but I feel like it would be a fun thing to at least test in casual.
@@alexanderfilinich4631 Well you don't need to be good enough to get 1-2 kills from it, made it alot BETTER than M4A4. Skill is other problem but 2 guys with same skill, M4A1 would dominate over M4A4 with it's range, silencer, patterm and recoils control.
It also makes it accurate to real life rifle if its meant to be Lapua Magnum. AWM in that caliber has 5 round mag. Its 7.62 nato(same as scout, G3 and Scar) one is 10.
I think being able to buy both m4s would be neat. Kinda like choosing between vandal and phantom in valorant it offers some gun versatility for the situation you’re playing in

There would have to be a really strong incentive to use (learn) these new weapons. Look how little the 1700$ Negev is used in pro matches, despite offering a unique mechanic and actually being highly effective in certain situations.

If it did damage similar to the Deagle, it would be hard to justify over the M4/AK imo. Could be interesting to have something like that for long angles like outside on Overpass, though.

de_basalt is a nice map to play in MM. However I don't think it is good enough for the professional scene. The boost spot around A barn should be removed to give the CT option to take barn control.
The AWP change to 5 rounds also works well imho since irl, the L96/L115 AW rifles fired larger caliber .300 winchester from standard 5 round magazines. That being said, it feels a bit funnier since we've been used to having 10 round .338 lapua magazines for 22 years and does hit hard on the margin for error for terrible shots, but not in a game breaking way. I like this change! Still think the M4s need to merge into a single rifle, like an M4 SOPMOD II or something where you can slap on or off the suppressor on a dime for different results like damage range, accuracy etc.
I liked Anubis since the release, aesthetics are great and gameplay wise it is truly quite simple map. Still can’t decide about A4 or A1-s, played A4 because it supposedly had better RoF, more ammo and damage. But the 200$ difference in price and recoil control sound so good even after nerf of A1-s… Really hope that Valve will give us to pick both during the rounds.
In my opinion, the A4 and A1-S feel like they're both in a good spot now in terms of being side-grades to each other; they both have their own upsides and downsides. Like you said, though, the biggest thing that matters to most players is that $200. Of course people are going to choose the cheaper option in a game where it's so important to manage your economy. My suggestion differs from yours, but it's an even simpler one for Valve to implement: get rid of the price gap altogether. Equalize both rifles at a nice and round $3000. No more choosing one over the other just because it keeps more money in your pocket. Give players the ability to choose the M4 they actually prefer. That's called positive freedom, baby.
The AWP was nerfed because ESL made a 'list' that they sent to Valve and asked pros what to write on it, Spinx said that the AWP should be nerfed by reducing the bullet count, this was in a video called "Volvo please"
I don't think it was confirmed that that's what did it. Its totally possible that they were considering it for much longer. (Especially is valorant had the same) I do hope ESL and Blast do that kind of thing more. Hopefully it will push valve to do balance updates more than like twice a year.
I think its great to have more maps to play and Anubis IMO is in a much better spot then something like Tuscan and even Cobble But I was hoping they would add Cobble back not because of Pro Play but Just because I always loved that map in MM was always a gem to play

I did quit CS like 10 years ago, only returning to CS:GO for a month, getting to supreme and quitting. So many memories playing D2. Had many ESL 5v5's where I dominated with AWP. It was a perfect map to me but it was also challenging since everyone had it mastered to perfection. Ive spent thousands of hours of my life playing Dust 2. Crazy.

The AWP is pretty much my go to - and I'm quite happy with the change. With 10 rounds it's far too forgiving for a weapon that can kill in one hit and having less ammo makes it more like a sniper where you have to pick your shots, and not a cod gun you use to 360 no scope round corners with. It does get boring sometimes when you know you can just hold off an entire team because they're too afraid to push the AWP that's been a pain in their arse and you've got enough bullets to ace twice.
I don't know how to describe it but the AWP is kinda more exciting/interesting now. Can't wait to see how it plays in pro matches.
@@berni2905 the more limited ammo makes every shot count, a missed shot is far more punishing. It makes watching or being an awper far more tense. A missed shot could make all the difference, whereas before, you could get away with it if you were quick and skillful.

I would love to see the map pool change after each major, however, I think at least two maps should be replaced each "season". Whether an old map makes a return or a new map gets added doesn't matter, there just needs to be changes.
Thought about this when you mentioned enemies counting AWP shots, would the AWP nerf be an indirect decoy grenade buff? You could potentially cover the sound of exactly how many shots you’ve fired, although you wouldn’t see the tracer so it does have its flaws.
Counting awp shots won't have an impact. The enemy can hear the sound of the shot but not of the reload. Meaning you could reload anytime in between the five shots

My gripe with Dust2's removal is that Valve actually killed the map in the pro scene. Before the T Spawn change, the map would always oscillate between being the third and fourth most-played map in the top 30. After the update, it killed the map to the point it went from 3rd to 7th.
Doubt the weapon changes will do much. One rarely spams their AWP and you should always be reloading when it is safe anyway.
And for the M4A1-S well..... you're supposed to be aiming for the head at that distance anyway.

I guess Canals is way too hard for pros to play each other on... Many people would buy aug and sg probably and awp would be really strong, but i still think its the map with most potential
The A site side of the map is dreadful, but the rest of the map I absolutely love. I honestly think if the A half of the map got reworked it would be much better and more people would like it, but Valve have moved on to making basic 'squares and alleyways' Ancient, which just feels like a Valorant map to me.
I hope they replace Mirage soon as well, there are so many good community maps that deserve some love, the map making scene for this game is such a blessing and not even possible with the way most other shooters are, a very unique community for such an e-sports heavy competitive game.
@@cheesypoohalo I agree A is dreadful on Canals, but thats because they patched it to be like that, it used to have more angles and was just as fun as B and mid. But mid and B were changed even more, map was so much more diverse and allowed much more creativity. But it demanded people to learn the angles and thats why they took out the best spices. Now its a skeleton of what it used to be.

A) Do you think decoy nades will take over a slot in competitve? An awper can get a decoy, throw it and have the other team count the shots and rush?
B) Do you think the decoy needs to be changed just for this? Because if an awper throws a decoy, does the decoy shoot more than five awp shots now? Would that give it away that they are not there or at least using a decoy to render this strat useless? The awper would be the only person to have an awp decoy... so would he sacrifice a flash, nade, or molly? Hmmmmm...

Bring back Cobble. Also why Valve hasn't just consistently swapped large portions of the map pool after every major completely eludes me. Like, there's SO many quality competitive maps to choose from, they should have had a consistent system in place for constantly changing the map pool every Major to keep things fresh. Like, why not swap half of the map pool each year? Then swap the other half next year. It forces people that want to succeed competitively to adapt to new maps all the time, which is healthy for not just competition but ALSO for viewership in tournaments.

An m4a1 u can't really kill an enrmy at long range with 1 headshot + 1 shot in the body. Try to make it on dust 2 long/b tunnels/mid or on A mirage ticket to t ramp. The enemy is gonna be on 1-2 hp but still not dead
What do you think of a serious proposition for a grenade launcher which can fire flashbang rounds or smoke rounds (impacts and further and more accurate), an expensive utility which you can alter what grenade you want it to fire, and it either loads a grenade from your inventory or spawns with one and occupies the slot. Of course a new gun is a big deal in CS:GO, hell, I've been playing since 1.6 on my shit computer at the time, but I feel like it would be a fun thing to at least test in casual.

The m4a4 feels like when I shoot there’s no consistency. When I tap shoot it feels way more inaccurate than when I tap shoot m4a1

@@alexanderfilinich4631 Well you don't need to be good enough to get 1-2 kills from it, made it alot BETTER than M4A4. Skill is other problem but 2 guys with same skill, M4A1 would dominate over M4A4 with it's range, silencer, patterm and recoils control.
It also makes it accurate to real life rifle if its meant to be Lapua Magnum. AWM in that caliber has 5 round mag. Its 7.62 nato(same as scout, G3 and Scar) one is 10.

I think being able to buy both m4s would be neat. Kinda like choosing between vandal and phantom in valorant it offers some gun versatility for the situation you’re playing in
The awp change is barely a nerf. The only reason people are running out of ammo is because they are used to never needing to ever reload with the AWP.
Do you think adding new weapons would keep it fresh too? say add a new AR with a red dot, or very slow firing 3 body shot kill AR or something?

There would have to be a really strong incentive to use (learn) these new weapons. Look how little the 1700$ Negev is used in pro matches, despite offering a unique mechanic and actually being highly effective in certain situations.
I wish CS had an unscoped semi-auto rifle like an M14 EBR for CT and an SKS for T.

If it did damage similar to the Deagle, it would be hard to justify over the M4/AK imo. Could be interesting to have something like that for long angles like outside on Overpass, though.

The AWP change to 5 rounds also works well imho since irl, the L96/L115 AW rifles fired larger caliber .300 winchester from standard 5 round magazines. That being said, it feels a bit funnier since we've been used to having 10 round .338 lapua magazines for 22 years and does hit hard on the margin for error for terrible shots, but not in a game breaking way. I like this change!
Still think the M4s need to merge into a single rifle, like an M4 SOPMOD II or something where you can slap on or off the suppressor on a dime for different results like damage range, accuracy etc.
What I'm hearing here is the FAMAS needs buffs.

I liked Anubis since the release, aesthetics are great and gameplay wise it is truly quite simple map.
Still can’t decide about A4 or A1-s, played A4 because it supposedly had better RoF, more ammo and damage. But the 200$ difference in price and recoil control sound so good even after nerf of A1-s… Really hope that Valve will give us to pick both during the rounds.

In my opinion, the A4 and A1-S feel like they're both in a good spot now in terms of being side-grades to each other; they both have their own upsides and downsides. Like you said, though, the biggest thing that matters to most players is that $200. Of course people are going to choose the cheaper option in a game where it's so important to manage your economy. My suggestion differs from yours, but it's an even simpler one for Valve to implement: get rid of the price gap altogether. Equalize both rifles at a nice and round $3000. No more choosing one over the other just because it keeps more money in your pocket. Give players the ability to choose the M4 they actually prefer. That's called positive freedom, baby.
The AWP was nerfed because ESL made a 'list' that they sent to Valve and asked pros what to write on it, Spinx said that the AWP should be nerfed by reducing the bullet count, this was in a video called "Volvo please"
I don't think it was confirmed that that's what did it. Its totally possible that they were considering it for much longer. (Especially is valorant had the same) I do hope ESL and Blast do that kind of thing more. Hopefully it will push valve to do balance updates more than like twice a year.
I think its great to have more maps to play and Anubis IMO is in a much better spot then something like Tuscan and even Cobble But I was hoping they would add Cobble back not because of Pro Play but Just because I always loved that map in MM was always a gem to play
