- Håkan "Carla" Carlqvist first victory in Spain's Motocross GP 1978.
This is part of a 16 mm film I made 1978, during the time I was employed as a lab manager.
The other five parts are: Racing Department, Dyno Department, Motorcycle Section, Engine Division and Husqvarna Gun Factory.
The entire film was made to inform the English-speaking market about our organization in Husqvarna AB
In 1979 in the US GP at Unadilla NY, I saw Hakan and his Husqvarna start the first moto, by the second lap he was at least 1400 meters ahead of second place. His upper shock bolt broke and he pulled off. Looking at his conditioning, he probably would have won and clinched the World Championship in the first heat. The second moto would have been something to see if that happened. The actual second moto he preserved and finished third to clinch the title. To see a rider taking it easy to clinch a title and still finish ahead of so many great riders was something to see.

This was a great success for us who have worked to produce a very good Husqvarna motorcros to the 1978 Motocross GP. Together with Carla had been proven that we had the opportunity to win the championship in motorcross

@@TommyGMalm but there were also scramblers like BSA twinshockers I know about it
The only 4 stroke in that era that was remotely competitive and raced was the Yamaha TT 500. I don't remember one ever winning.
