Mr.Chidambaram playing politics of a devious order at the end of a brilliant and relevant intervention has done the following (1) the entire gravity of his technical questions on the economics / budgetary matters got lost in his cheap diversions into the border issue (2) He has buttressed the prevailing public belief that his personal credibility and probity are under serious question and hence he is to be not taken seriously as an honest stake holder on most matters. Integrity is a huge issue and it's perceived absence has damaged his case almost irrevocably.
There is nothing cheap about Chidambaram's question about the border. It was very relevant as the additional budget allocation was mostly for border patrol. He did say before he began the discussion that the whole exercise becomes meaningless if the issues raised are not answered. The behaviour of the chair and the treasury benches proved exactly that. Better to stop calling our system as 'democracy'. It is a joke on democracy. Even in Pakistan, parliamentarians get better response from the government side. This level of arrogance is India specific. What a shame.
