Sometimes higher drops doesn't equate better ride. It's the anticipation of the drop. For me Tower of Terror's random unpredictable drops makes it scary even though the drops aren't that high.
Thought there was a countdown on mega king tower but since we were that high we didn't here a single thing and we were dropped while I was thinking that we were fine. They stalled us up there for a full minute so once we were taken to the top again (the ride has 2 cycles) the thing stops but in reality its moving up slowly. I was thinking i woudnt fall for it so i knew we would have to wait a minute until it drops and then it drops a few seconds later. Arguably the best experience ive had on a drop tower (better than that kiddie drop tower that takes you to an astounding 5 meters).
Tower Of Terror's ride system is also way better than a lot of drop towers - most are just freefall, so the drop just goes at the speed of gravity, while tower of terror is an elevator and YANKS you down faster than gravity.
AquaBob eventually theming is probably the biggest factor. At the end of the day it is just about the experience as an whole and an underground drop tower is awesome.
It's basically Lex Luthor without the possibility of a "sway ride" (thanks, NJ!) so it wouldn't make the list. If it could run simultaneously with Kingda Ka, it'd probably take the 10th spot.
AquaBob on that note I’m happy that I live in the Netherlands, because a lot of parks here are focused hard on theming. Expect Walibi Holland who still tries to be Netherlands six flags without much success.

The Tower of Terror is overall my favorite attraction of all time. Has a story, atmosphere, thrills, theming. It has everything a theme park ride should have.
I’m so glad Mission Breakout was on here. I love the atmosphere and the experience it provides. It’s thrilling and so upbeat with the music and visuals. Such a good, fun ride.
Falcon’s Fury is probably the scariest ride I’ve been on. I rarely ever get intimidated by rides, but being on that thing made me second guess going on! It’s my favorite drop tower I’ve ever ridden because of how ridiculously tall it is and of course it forcing you to look straight down! What a crazy feeling it is being dropped 300 feet in what’s essentially a belly flop position.
That's correct can't remember what company it was but it uses the same system as most lifts in modern building just highly modified and given stronger cables
That explains a lot. I’ve seen kids who have chickened out of TOT freak out getting into the elevator to the ground level. But it might just be a flaw in the theming…
The best drop tower I've been on (in my opinion) is Acrophobia at Six Flags Over Georgia. I love the rotation, getting the 360 view of the surroundings at the park, and the 45 degree tilt on the ride facing down.
My favourite is definitely Mystery Castle. The atmosphere in the Castle is Just phenomenal and going into the Main Tower room and Not being able to see the ceiling is pretty scary
I like Acrophobia at SFOG. Very unique with the slight tilt down that you don’t really notice. Being in that position seems more thrilling to me than just being seated traditionally.
Clean Scores i agree. when i rode it i didn‘t know it would shoot you up. and tbh it was one of the most terrifying things ever. other drop towers aren‘t as scary imo bc you‘re just falling
Yeah Mystery castle is amazing! The first time i went there with my gf and she hated me for not telling her it was a bungee. But luckily i could convince her to go again(because now she knew what would happen). And we rode it 8x in a row. The day after was even better because of the longer program they did that day. The intensity is personally for me way higher with the Mystery Castle because the darkness and that voice is just crazy
Tbh I was kinda surprised Acrophobia at sfog wasn’t on this, in my opinion I would prefer it over say Tower of Terror because for me thing that puts it over is the bicycle-type restraints and the slight tilt at the top. Nevertheless, another great video!
You're right the Floorless Intamin Drop Towers providing a very intense ride. I haven't been on Acrophobia but we got the same model at Movipark Germany
Jack Broggi SFOG is my home park and I really like Acrophobia. I have heard some men say they don’t like it because it hurts their crotch, but when I ride it, I don’t feel anything and I am a dude.
Giant Drop in Dreamworld, Australia was my first thrill ride and what got me into thrill rides and coasters. Was the tallest, I think is the second or third tallest now. It’s unfortunately had most of its theming removed, but I assume it would compare to Drop of Doom since it had the same potential for a swaying ride, but they also took out the free fall coaster!
falcons fury will always hold a special place in my heart, from getting 3 rides on soft opening to operating it this last summer. truly a great experience.
Agree with my fellow Brits here. If you find yourself in the UK again make sure to try out Apocalypse at Drayton Manor, there are 4 different options for your ride - including a stand up floorless option! Worth a try if it is at the cost of ever having children in the future
I love how you always save these unique attractions I've never heard of for the top of the list. Always discovering new highly-themed rides on this channel, it's awesome.
I still think Acrophobia at SFOG has one of the best drops out of any drop tower I've been on. Tower of Terror is probably my favorite overall just for the theming. The 5th dimension part is amazing plus the random drop sequence
Awesome video, Haunted Mine Drop looks fantastic, Highlander at Hansa Park is cool because it's so tall and the onboard soundtrack and different ride cycles make it more re-rideable
Free Fall at Tokyo Summerland, Japan and Space Probe at Wonderland, Sydney were my favorites. Both were Intamins of different types. Loved Space Probe because of queue line theming, and when you got to the top in an enclosed dome, they showed video of you escaping as if your ship was an escape pod. Then, it dropped you.
Compared to other rank videos, I love how you transition from mentioning one ride to the other. Smooth and comedic unlike the common "number 8 - name of ______" in other videos I've seen 😄👌. Keep up the good work and hope you get to visit alot more rides as possible. Stay safe!
Hi from.the UK. My personal favourite, is Tower of Terror, at Disneys Hollywood Studios, just love it, and Falcons Fury, at Busch Gardens, Tampa. And as someone who grew up in Australia, the giant drop, at Dreamworld, is very impressive.
I think that ToT at WDW counts more as a darkride due to the fact that it actually maneuvers in ATVs through a course, but all the other ToT rides and mission breakout are drop towers
My list: Number 1: Mega King Tower: 120 Kph/ 75 Mph and 268 feet/ 80 meters tall. Number 2: That one kiddie drop tower at legoland malaysia: 10 Kph/ around 6Mph and 5 meters tall/ around 15 feet. Honorable mentions: nothing else Hope you enjoyed my extremely detailed and long list.
Mission breakout was amazing. I was expecting something like tower of terror in WDW. But in our sequence it shot us up straight from the beginning after we pushed back from the loading dock. (My mom screamed, that usually doesn’t happen lol) It was a great ride and I loved it.
As others have said, the Tower of Terror would be my number 1. You're so imersed in the theme and when the time comes... you may go up or down first. It's always amazing!! It's actually my favorite ride ever.
ride highlander in hansapark germany, its the highest girodroptower in the world and its tilt trough the drop. (has also the option to not tilt, that is used in the morning to 15pm)
The one at Hansa Park is insane. It does not rotate the seats by 90° at the top, but at a freaking height of 120m, 30° also have their Effect, especially when it's windy.
I’m still recovering from the removal of tower of terror at Disneyland. They ruined it with guardians of the galaxy. It was my favorite ride at the park.
The ToT is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. Also, Dr.Doom's Fear Fall at IoA is one of my favs not for the drop but for the amazing view of the parks that it offers.

I personally have Disneyseas Tower Of Terror at #2 of the Disney ToT's (Orlandos ride system is so much better). Yes Disneyseas seatbelts give you no airtime but the building architecture and story make it better than the rest. The fact that it is connected to the Society of Explorers and Adventurers which spans all Disney parks is just the icing on the cake.

Xscream at Waldameer is so underrated. It’s a Larson one, and the restraints don’t come down at all, and it’s just the seatbelts keeping them in place, therefore the airtime is incredible. It terrifies the GP, so there’s no line, resulting in easy marathons
I’ve only ridden “the Giant Drop” at Dreamworld Australia. The drop on that is insane!! If you go to Australia please ride it!! You won’t be disappointed!!
The best for me was Tower of Terror at California Adventure during Halloween at night. They turned off most of the show elements and most of the lights so you would be sitting in complete darkness and complete silence just waiting for it to finally drop you. That was so much fun and it's a shame that it isn't around anymore because of Guardians replacing it.
What I like about Mystery Castle is that is does not drop you down the second time, no it pushes you down. And that loud sound just ads to the fibe of it being an expiriment.
Every time I ride Tower of Terror I involuntarily make the same nervous auntie laughing sound “woo hoo woo hoo hoo hoo” and my picture looks exactly the same because I can’t keep my head up lol
I love the Intamin Floorless Tilting Gyro Drop Towers they are pretty rare since there only two in the World but really intense. Also I like the 40 or 30 Meter Drop Towers from Fabbri they're pretty intense too because they hold you so long at the top.
There were two unique drop towers in Liseberg untill a couple of years ago and they were called Höjdskräcken and Uppskjutet. Uppskjutet was like a normal drop tower, but backwards, instead of being dropped from the peak, you were shot up from the ground into the sky. So the anticipation came at ground level since you didn't stall at the top. Höjdskräcken was like Uppskjutet but backwards, instead of being dropped at the top, you were shot down from the top and therefore you had a higher acceleration and with that a higher speed than the usual droptower. They were closed in 2016 - 2017 and were two of my favorite "drop towers". I'm sure that you would have loved them as well.
Just a note: detonator, a Larson super shot at Thorpe park does pause at the top, then counts down from 5. Usually, you then drop, but sometimes, you drop on 3 or something, or drop instantly without the countdown, or pause after the countdown, put my personal favourite is when there is an announcement: ‘attention. Detonator is currently experiencing a technical dela- And then you drop. I’ve experienced the last one, and its a real surprise even if you know it’s coming!
I'm a big fan of Detonator at Thorpe Park. It's only 115 feet tall but it's easily the most forceful one I have done. It doesn't look that intimidating but it's absolutely brilliant.
The number one spot is so fun. It’s not even that far of a drop too 😂. But you forgot to mention that the dodo happens as a jump scare is projected in front of you with the theming 😰
Some Intamin towers have different gondolas on the same tower: sit-down or standing, the latter with or without floor while some of those options tilt. I think having this choice is really cool! One example is the "Golden Driller" at Fraispertuis City (France), which is my personal favorite :)
I have trouble with thrill rides. I really do. I get scared really easily and I can’t ride any roller coaster with inversions. The anxiety builds up too much and I hate it. That’s why I like Mission Breakout so much. I love that the drops correspond with the rhythm of the music. If you listen to the music, you know when you’re gonna drop and that makes it less scary. I love that. Guardians also happens to be my favorite Marvel franchise so I think the theming is really great as well.
Tower of Terror in DHS is still my number one. I have yet to visit Glenwood Caverns but from your previous video on it that Tower sounds cool. I'm actually surprised Lex Luther wasn't higher on your list. Not only is it one of the tallest drop towers with a decent audio theme, but the sway of the tower and the feeling when Superman goes by is why it's easily better than Zoomanjaro. That and the fact that there are two sides that give a different experience.
I'm really surprised the big shot on top of the stratosphere isn't here, I know you said that you don't think s&s drop towers are the best but I think this one is an exception
My favourite has to be Tower Of Terror at Walt Disney Studios, I just love the theme and storyline! Hands down the best ride in that park now (not really difficult when they remove all the other star attractions). Thankfully we still have big thunder mountain in the main park
Here is my say about it, the drop side needs refurbed. The air compressors don't pressurize as much as compared to 15 years ago. Before it used to compress for around 15 seconds and now it compresses for only 3-5 seconds unless they put on faster compressors.
If an S&S Space Shot is programmed correctly it's close to your #2 in how it feels despite the obvious shoulder restraint, such as the sadly fallen (2012 to hurricane sandy) "Tower Of Fear" which was more forceful than most and also oddly taller than many others were at the time it was built. I rode one recently it might've been one at hershey but not sure, that measured up and I just said "I wish the one near me was like this." The larson ones are nuts, they put one of those close to me and I love it! I I really miss those intamin 1st generation types on the tracks cause they were awesome just maintainence nightmares (cause intamin). People mention the one at SFOG-honestly thought it was the only painful drop tower I've ever written and didn't make it scarier to be basically stand up, probably the worst next to too many parks buying the standard 80 feet S&S double shots that don't even go up to their max height (cause poor maintainence).
I believe my home park Thorpe's drop tower, detonator, is the most intense in the world at 5.5Gs, correct me if there are any higher ones. Very proud to have ridden it and sad Taylor had to miss it.
Dude I’m not a huge coaster guy and stuff and I’ve only been on one drop tower at Dollywood and it’s just this anticipation because your 250 feet in the air for 30 seconds and not to mention it’s spinning while your sitting there and then boom you drop. Such a weird, scary, but most importantly fun experience.
Hollywood, 1939. Amidst the glitz and the glitter of a bustling young movie talent at the height of its golden age, the Hollywood Tower Hotel was a star in its own right. A beacon for the show business elite. Now, something is about to happen that will change all that
This is why Disney is so good (or at least why it can be when it wants to be.) I feel like calling TOT a "drop tower" isn't giving it enough credit. It's a dark ride that utilizes a drop tower system during part of the ride. The building itself, the music, the queue, the video in the library, the boiler room, the first segment of the elevator and when the elevator leaves its shaft all build you up to such incredible tension. The drop(s) aren't just a thrilling sensation but they feel like the climax to a story you've been living for the previous 30 minutes. It really is such an incredible ride.
One of my personal favorites is Sasquatch at The Great Escape. You can choose to look over the Adirondacks or you can choose to look over the entire park since Sasquatch is at the very front. Either one is amazing.
My absolute favorite Drop Tower has to be Golden Driller at Fraispertuis City in France. At first glance it's your typical Intamin Drop Tower with 4 Modules, but the unique thing about this Tower is that it has 4 different ride experiences. They have Sit Down /w Tilt and OTSR, Sit Down /wo Tilt and Lap Bar, Sit Down /w Tilt and Lap Bar and last but certainly not least Stand Up /w Tilt. Experiencing a Drop Tower Standing Up with a Floor under your feet is insane. It genuinely feels like the floor is being pulled away under you.
Liberty Launch @ Holiday World in Santa Claus, IN is a "drop tower" in reverse. Compressed air launches the carriage upwards over 150 feet and then you yo-yo back and forth (bounce) a few times until the brake system slowly brings the carriage back down to ground level. I highly recommend if you are ever in Indiana.
Ikaros is my favourite "traditional" drop tower, if you can even call it that. But there's one tower that stands far above anything I've ever experienced. It's the only ride in the world that actually scares me every time I go on it. I'm not even sure you can classify it as a ride. I'm talking about Sky Tower at Tivoli Friheden in Denmark. This drop tower doesn't even have seats. They give you a helmet and put some straps on you. You ascend in a sketchy elevator. They pretty much hang you up by the straps on you and suspend you over the edge. And then you drop. 30 meters of true free fall until you hit a net. I had to scream but I couldn't because that drop took my breath away in every sense of the word. It was better than any roller coaster I've ever been on. You should definetely consider going to Denmark the next time you're in Europe.
My favorite freefalltower is The Highfall at Movie Park Germany because the brakes are very close to the ground an the old Intamin floorless gondola brings good airtime and a nice ride experience.
There’s a Larson Super Shot that operated at the Danbury Fair carnival and the Big E for several years with an Orange colour scheme. It’s a surreal experience.
Sometimes higher drops doesn't equate better ride. It's the anticipation of the drop. For me Tower of Terror's random unpredictable drops makes it scary even though the drops aren't that high.
I think that's why my favorite drop tower ride was at Canada's Wonderland. They counted down from 10 and dropped us on 7. Terrifying. I loved it.
I always know when the drop happens so I brace myself
Thought there was a countdown on mega king tower but since we were that high we didn't here a single thing and we were dropped while I was thinking that we were fine. Tower Of Terror's ride system is also way better than a lot of drop towers - most are just freefall, so the drop just goes at the speed of gravity, while tower of terror is an elevator and YANKS you down faster than gravity.
The only type of ride that genuinely terrifies me.

@@lr2127 It's not as terrible as it looks like. Your balls will survive the ride. ;)
What I like about Mystery Castle is that is does not drop you down the second time, no it pushes you down. And that loud sound just ads to the fibe of it being an expiriment.
This a good video! Keep up the amazing work!
Every time I ride Tower of Terror I involuntarily make the same nervous auntie laughing sound “woo hoo woo hoo hoo hoo” and my picture looks exactly the same because I can’t keep my head up lol
Great list! Gravity bomb is one of my personal favorites as well… I feel privileged to have it in my home state
I love the Intamin Floorless Tilting Gyro Drop Towers they are pretty rare since there only two in the World but really intense.
Personally my favourite is the giant drop at dreamworld Australia
The one at KD is my favorite
Even though it is significantly shorter than KI and KD's drop tower, I think Acrophobia is a much better Gyro Drop, you can't beat the tilt
Yessir
I love Larson super drop towers. They are one of my favourite drop rides I have ridden.
I'm gonna love the new S&S Spin Shot when one comes out! Boy the world's been waiting for a free-spin on a pneumatic drop tower!
I think big shot on the vegas statosphere should be added. That was the only ride as of late that is actually mind blowing
The intamin drop towers are the best in my opinion. The ten story free fall at 6 flags over Georgia was a beast.
Acrophobia for the win👍🏾
The High Fall in Movie Park is my favorite
My favorite....The Big Shot on top of the Stratosphere in Las Vegas, especially at night. Unreal experience.
Giant Drop (Dreamworld), Hair Raiser (Luna Park Sydney), Tower of Terror and MaYbE Detenator
I'm a big fan of Detonator at Thorpe Park. It's only 115 feet tall but it's easily the most forceful one I have done. It doesn't look that intimidating but it's absolutely brilliant.
Was looking for this comment!
Falcons Fury and Haunted Mine look INCREDIBLE!!!!!! 🤯
Mine is 100% def Falcon's Fury. Tilting down that high up is batshit crazy!!!
*y'all will NEVER see me on a drop tower. I'll hold ya stuff*
Acrophobia because I feel like I am slipping out of the restraint. It's genius how they slanted the seats like that
I have trouble with thrill rides.
I’ve only rode one drop tower on that list and it was the guardians of the galaxy mission breakout I highly recommend it it was so fun
I'm really surprised the big shot on top of the stratosphere isn't here, I know you said that you don't think s&s drop towers are the best but I think this one is an exception
David Shaw it might’ve made my top 15.
This is the only ride I've ever been on that actually scared me!
And Cliffhanger at Flamingo Land
Love the video!! :)
My favorite Droptower is Acrophobia at SFOG
AWESOME VIDEO 👏 You’re the only roller coaster youtuber I watch who thought of it 👍
My favourite has to be Tower Of Terror at Walt Disney Studios, I just love the theme and storyline! Hands down the best ride in that park now (not really difficult when they remove all the other star attractions). Thankfully we still have big thunder mountain in the main park
The immersion and theming of Tower of Terror just can't be beat. One of my all-time favorite rides, period; certainly my favorite at WDW
@@jordanmorris4090 plus, the fact that it's always random in WDW makes it super fun
I’m a little surprised that Dr. Dooms Fear Fall wasn’t at leas an honorable mention. The way it just shoots you up is so aggressive and so fast
Sad to see Power Tower not on there. I love that you choose to get launched up or down, but overall great video taylor.
It needs to be removed it's completely boring compared to Drop Zone at King's island.
@@ArrowThrills I dont think its bOrInG...I mean...its still a drop tower
Here is my say about it, the drop side needs refurbed. The air compressors don't pressurize as much as compared to 15 years ago. Before it used to compress for around 15 seconds and now it compresses for only 3-5 seconds unless they put on faster compressors.
Aka: Flower Tower. Been that way for over 10yrs.
Great video. I have been waiting for this. Could you maybe do your top 25 coasters cause why not.
Falcon's fury is insane but kings island drop tower is crazy too
I thought King's Dominion was crazy to.
Great video :) I thought you would honor Hurakan Condor, it's theming is really cool, you should try it even though it's a more classic" kinda tower
One of my personal favorites is Sasquatch at The Great Escape. You can choose to look over the Adirondacks or you can choose to look over the entire park since Sasquatch is at the very front. Either one is amazing.
Tower of Terror at DCA. Highly themed, long ride, ONLY a seatbelt, total darkness. I'm gonna miss that ride so much.
I don’t know if they count, but skycoasters provide a pretty good rush. I like how on these one of the riders has to initiate the drop.
Nemesis Subterra is an amazing drop tower! I love how it drops you like 50ft and how it’s never open. Gosh I love how it’s never open!
Coaster Countdowns definitely. my sister led me on there but wouldnt tell me what the ride was. i had no idea. what a nice surprise. haha
It's a shame how often it goes down. It's my favourite dark ride in the UK. It's such a fun ride, lore-wise
Out of the ones I’ve ridden, drop line at Dollywood has to be my favorite. It’s a nice, long fall and you just can’t beat the view at the top.
My favourite drop tower is apocalypse at Drayton Manor, more specifically when you do it standing up.
I was going to mention that on and there is standing up with no floor
Detonator at Thorpe Park, because it doesn’t drop you, it pushes you down with pneumatics, instantly gets you into the top of your restraints!
I like the one at LEGO land where you pull your self up the tower it’s a unique experience
My favorite freefalltower is The Highfall at Movie Park Germany because the brakes are very close to the ground an the old Intamin floorless gondola brings good airtime and a nice ride experience.
Drop Towers are my favorite flat rides!
Atmos fear is in my home Park. I think it's amazing as it's 116 M high and it's stands on the top of a hill, giving you a view of the entire city.
There’s a Larson Super Shot that operated at the Danbury Fair carnival and the Big E for several years with an Orange colour scheme. It’s a surreal experience.
