I do not use the clips but have similar problem as you. I have 30+ broken motors and sensors. Have got some replacement from Lego but not anymore because the warranty time is out. Every week I got a new broken sensors and motors. The cables are too weak, much better on EV3 when you could change only the cable if there was a problem. Now you need a new motor or sensor. Mission failed LEGO!!!!

I haven’t had any problems with sensors. I found a guy who buys his own cable and replaces them. It might be an option for you. Or even buy some cable and find a student who is keen to give it a go.

I teach and have a pile of around 25 motors with the exact same issue after a year. I think a lot of it is in the connections as well as kids constantly pull the machines by the cords

I have cleaned the connection points with an electric toothbrush and that seemed to help. Also put moisture absorbing desiccant pouches with the motors in storage. But since getting rid of clips and doing that, only one dead motor!

    Just check your cables then.

Thanks for the tip, but I checked everything several times for several motors.
