    Nasa just revealed Huge Update on Inside Blue Origin’s Orbital Reef
    Assuming the role of the ISS is undoubtedly the primary objective for numerous organizations presently, notably the Blue Origin-led Orbital Reef initiative.
    Progress in the development of this space station has been sluggish over the years, often encountering skepticism regarding its feasibility.
    Nasa just revealed Huge Update on Inside Blue Origin’s Orbital ReefHowever, NASA's recent comprehensive update on the space station signifies a significant shift from previous vague disclosures.
    What does this latest update reveal about the design and potential timeline for constructing the Orbital Reef space station? Could its realization be imminent?
    Join us as we explore these questions further in today's episode of Great SpaceX.
    Nasa just revealed Huge Update on Inside Blue Origin’s Orbital Reef
    As you're aware, NASA has been diligently strategizing for the replacement of the ISS as its retirement looms within the next six years. Departing from past practices, NASA has opted to enlist the expertise of private companies, awarding contracts for the design and construction of new space stations.
    These companies wasted no time in unveiling a plethora of innovative concepts, including the Axiom Space Station, Starlab, and Orbital Reef. Among them, Orbital Reef has captured significant attention, primarily due to its association with aerospace giant Blue Origin. Furthermore, its collaboration with Sierra Space, incorporating the LIFE inflatable habitat system model, adds another layer of intrigue to this ambitious venture.

    Whatever happened to the company that plans to do construction in space? The info is crazy. They claim to complete a huge space station with artificial gravity rings in just a month.

    I wouldn't describe Blue Origin as "Aerospace Giant", maybe a "Potential Aerospace Giant".

    Blue origin is not a major space company, a player for certain but not major, ula was a major space company and they are more impactful than blue origin is. Boeing is building parts of this station? Yeah that is likely to not end well.

      *The Boeing-built parts will not "end"... they will just keep on drinking up funds while never actually getting completed*
      Diversity, Inclusivity and Equity hiring is a great way to get woke and go broke.

      @patryn36 Місяць тому +4

      @@mervstash3692 no, simple assessment of the reality of the situation. Spacex is not planning or building any space station as far as i am aware. What has blue origin done outside a sub orbital vehicle or supplying engines? The answer is not much. Boeing while good at one point is seemingly suffering from incompetence lately, almost russian style in its nature. Ula used to be one of the top dogs but now they are being sold and their new vehicle can not be reused which is the name of the game now. How long has the space industry been after a reuseable vehicle? A relative nobody came in figured out what the pros should have and is looking to do it again. The old pros are way off their game, corrupted by greed and laziness, everything spacex has done, is doing, should have been done 50 years ago. We have prototype engine tech for use on spaceships sitting on the shelves collecting dust that were developed in the 60s. Call it what you will, but the fact of the matter is until boeing gets its act in gear they can not be trusted to deliver and blue origin comes up with plans and has not delivered on much of anything, yet.

    Blue Origins Orbital Reef is nothing more than their latest CGI presentation. The laundry list you read off enumerating the functions that will be available is nothing more than what any space station would have. Anything this long-winded sounds like A.I.

    IMHO the estimated time frames are far too optimistic for the companies involved in Orbital Reef. Blue Origin is in its infancy, in order to be cost effective they have to perfect their re-usability of the booster and the reliability and durability of their engines. Sierra Space' Dream Chaser hasn't been in space yet, they have a whole campaign of qualifying and re-entry analysis as well as its autonomous programming, if they plan to make it the primary manned transport to Orbital Reef, that's years away. The only hardware that has been proven in space is the original Bigelow modules with one floating in space and the other on the ISS. I'm afraid that I would be inclined to add 10 years to current estimates, but I'm confident it will proceed, just not as quickly as we'd like.

    So putting a docking module on an inflatable node seems rather risky. Say a docked craft has some sort of attitude control issue while docked, could this not cause significant flexing/tearing of the inflatable module?

    • @wesleybeaver
      @wesleybeaver Місяць тому

      There is a structural spindle down the center axis of a LIFE module. No flexion. The inflatable hab does not provide any structural support aside from its own; the spindle is what connects to things. If your RCS is robust enough to bend that spindle, it would have already torn itself away from the docking clamps.

    Thinking about how many of those inflatables One Starship could loft into orbit... And think of this. If each of the refueling Starships could loft just one of these up each launch and throughout the Artemis program, keep doing this. Wow! Think about a hundred of these for a space station.

    • @mervstash3692
      @mervstash3692 Місяць тому +1

      F'k no. Of course it won't. You have to actually put stuff into Starship first. Do that and you will barely be able to move inside.
      Plus this version of Starship is only 40% of the size of what your figures are based off.

    • @wesleybeaver
      @wesleybeaver Місяць тому

      No, it won't. You can NOT use the tank cubage without at the least putting airlocks into the common domes and venting the tankage completely. You would also have to add tons of insulation to make the structure habitable. Remember, the so-called starship isn't a sleeved construct; the outer wall of the vehicle is the outer wall of a fuel or oxidizer tank, with no insulation or sufficient density to withstand micrometeorites or space FOD.

    • @jameswilson5165
      @jameswilson5165 Місяць тому

      Although a lot of Starship is taken with tanks and engines, it could still hold quite a lot of those inflatable models. Lets say six of them. Keep doing that and soon you could have a very large rotating station.

    IMO the reliance on Blue Origin will cause delays in Orbital Reef deployment. After 20+ years of effort, BO has not yet launched anything to orbit.
    What is Plan B for ISS replacement?

    • @wesleybeaver

      Axiom Space. Their first module is due to be launched to ISS late this year, early next year, with a module every year scheduled. Once assembled, they decouple from ISS and start independent operation.

    Use inflatable as a safer way to land on the moon instead of a space station. You still have to fill it with uninflatable hardware to be useful. Twice the work. 🎉

    • @colonbina1
      @colonbina1  Місяць тому

      Great suggestion

    • @wesleybeaver
      @wesleybeaver Місяць тому

      Not really. Check out the structure of a LIFE module. There is a metallic spindle down the center that the bag is placed over. That hollow spindle is where support systems like life support, computer support, and power coaxials are housed. Around that spindle are the panels for the flooring and walls. Once deployed and inflated, the floors are unfolded and secured, then the walls are placed by the astronauts. You havbe to bring in the new experiments true, but power runs, water runs, networking runs are already in place, and the space is subdivided. Just like the current ISS, it would be plug in and go.

    A totally stupid design. Only idiots could make something even similar to the old space station, and not make a Rotational Space Station. It would not be difficult to make a rotational station even while using all of the same components. Using the center parts as a hub. And the expandable sections attached off of the hub. They could put no less than 6 to 8 expandable modules off of a hub section. And to expand, just add another hub section, and more expandable sections attached to the hubs.
