    Just a quick numbers clarification. There are actually eight staffed ambulances/rescues and each engine is staffed with four personnel. Both the squad and tower trucks are cross staffed and the woods trucks and the tanker/tender pulls a person from the engine to staff it as needed.

      I believe they got rid of the tanker. I saw an article criticizing the administration’s decision to do so after a car fire in a parking lot saw RCFR dealing with limited water supply.

    Reedy creek no longer has the 6x6 aerial ladder that was know as Tower 3. It is currently sitting at a used fire truck dealer in Union Grove, Alabama. I just saw it today when my department dropped off one of our trucks to be serviced. That thing is massive!

    Hello from Galloway, Atlantic County, NJ. Awesome that you were with the SJTA FD at AC International. I run with Galloway Station 2, on the box for the airport.

      I wasn't with SJTA I worked at Atlantic City Municipal, Bader Field in the city. Originally with Pan American Management Systems and after the change to Johnson Controls Management Systems. Are the SJTA firefighters federal employees or contractors? When my dad worked at NAFEC they were federal employees but, they were contract when Pan AM ran the terminal.

    Some clarifications here, the Bronto pictured s not 6x6, the 6x6 aerial is an old E-One (Truck 3 in your video). The unit pictured is indeed replacing the newer E-One labeled T1. Second, the additional new aerial apparatus is a Bronto Skylift S173XDT. It isn't your typical fire apparatus which is why you probably didn't come across it in your research, but it is capable of high angle rescues. From what I heard, the district purchased 3 of them. Not sure on the accuracy of this though. As for Orlando FD, their call volume may be similar, but their area is much more spread out requiring more stations to achieve reasonable response times.

    • @AsBobSeesIt
      @AsBobSeesIt  5 років тому +1

      According to everything I've read E-One's/Bronto Skylift's 137 foot ladder is the largest made in North America. If you know of anyone else making larger, let me know. I haven't seen any really huge units since Firebird's 200 footer in the late 70's - early 80's (Philadelphia even had one for awhile). This was back when they were trying to sell a helicopter platform for rescue and firefighting in highrises (by no means my area of expertise). And it's not unusual for E-One to use someone else's aerial system. I believe you can still get an Aerialscope.
      As for Orlando, you're right. Population is also denser. I only used the 300,000 population base because the Reedy Creek Improvement District has stated that their infrastructure is set-up the same as a city of 300,000 people. It's a weird world of comparisons the city and the district have their own unique requirements. I do find it fascinating that the city has more Woods trucks though (you gotta admit the district has a lot more natural coverage acerage - not including the 10% set-asides). Again is the district relying on the county. There is a woods truck on Windermere-Vineland Road just behind Disney. But again, I thought the idea of the creation of the district was to not burden the county.
      Thanks for the comment, Kurt. I really do appreciate it.

      @JollyGreenGiant94 5 років тому +1

      @@AsBobSeesIt Thank you for replying. I do agree that Ready Creek has a lot of woods, but I think the reason they have elss woods trucks is because they are a much more compact area. 20 minutes and you can get from any station to any part of the district usually whereas with Orlando, it is much more spread out. Going from the Mills area to Narcossee could take an hour easy. That is just my guess though.
      As far as the 173ft aerial goes, the reason you are not finding anything is that the truck came from Bronto and not E-One. I would suggest looking up the Bronto S173 as it is what the district purchased. It is not a fire truck, it was designed primarily for industrial use, but as you are well aware, reedy creek has unique challenges with both the monorail and the skyliner. The primary concern with both systems is rescue in the inevitable event they get stuck and that is the single purpose of the 173' Bronto. It is similar in that regard to the scissor lift truck the district already has.
      Oh and trust me, the neighboring counties use Reedy Creek to help them out frequently. Unfortunately call volume frequently exceeds resources in the Central Florida region with so much tourism. Mutual aid is common practice around here.
      Edit: Link for the Skylift XDT series which RC purchased brontoskylift.com/us/product/s-xdt-us/

      Bronto Skylift S173XDT I see as a lineman's truck. Are they certified for firefighting use and what chassis will they be mounted on?

    • @JollyGreenGiant94
      @JollyGreenGiant94 5 років тому

      @@AsBobSeesIt Doubt it has any firefighting use. Just like the scissor lift, it is a specialized rescue truck. It is mounted on a 2-door Peterbilt chassis.

      Couldn't agree more on the Quint idea. I've wondered why they hadn't already gone that route. I've been out of the career for so long I couldn't recommend a manufacturer. But E-One is right up the street. And with departments like Orlando with a fleet of Sutphens there are bound to be specialty mechanics used to dealing with problems. I was mainly an airport guy so I dealt mostly with Oshkosh and while in the USAF we went with lowest bidder although they run all Pierces for structural now.

      Amazingly enough one week after the "unexpected downtime" we took another ride on the Skyliner where we experienced our own "unexpected downtime. You can check that out here --> ua-cam.com/video/TUdOuR7kNYg/v-deo.html
      I believe the fire department does the best with what they have. Reedy Creek has purchase a couple of million dollars of specialized equipment (2 Tower Platforms [Tower-1 was probably scheduled to be replaced anyway and the new Bronto 173' Skylift has no firefighting package], 2-moveable platform 65' scizzor lifts [that's right there are two now] and a Rescue Barge for Hourglass Lake [which the construction contractor used before it was placed in service]) .
      What they HAVEN'T DONE is increase the number of firefighters who are expected to operate all this additional apparatus (all unmanned on a regular basis). So there would be a requirement for an engine company to return to the station to grab another piece of apparatus.
      I'm not sure why Reedy Creek Fire hasn't embraced the squad concept (prevalent in the northeast both New York and Philly have special operations squad companies, OR the quint (which is being adopted all across the countr - even Orange County has Quints, although I think Philly did away with theirs).

    A bit more information for you: RCID has 42 square miles, in 1983 there were 2 parks, water park (Ft. Wilderness), one camp ground and 62 FF's and about 1/2 were also Paramedics., the number of workers for WDW is approximately 50,000 the hotels are on average 98% occupied 365 days a year. There was an attempt to place a new station 5 at Western Way next to highway 429 however the RCID de-annexed the are except two hotels just as the Celebration which was also de-annexed to keep the citizens living there would not be voters. The RCID is under the voting of City of Lake Buena Vista and City of Bay Lake, in which they rent trailers in the two cities. To vote you are required to own one acre of land.

      Thanks, Bill. I didn't know about the de-annexation of Flamingo Crossing near SR-429. But I guess that's why they're building apartments there now. I wonder if that was part of the deal that allowed Disney to expand it's holdings southward by buying up land NEAR Celebration recently.

    • @AsBobSeesIt

      Where did you hear that Flamingo Crossings had been de-annexed? Disney announced plans for another shopping district with 29 stores in Flamingo Crossings. Permits for four new hotels including the new Hampton Inn & Suites II having been filed as of April 2019. And a South Florida Water Management District permit was filed by Disney for Flamingo Crossing West Housing in February of this year.

      I wish I'd known about it back when I was a healthy firefighter trying to figure out what I was going to do after the Air Force. Unfortunately I got injured and that progressed. It would have been my dream firefighting job. These guys really are my heroes. I just wish they could man more of their apparatus. We did extensive cross-manning in the USAF and most times it worked out. I'm just glad it was never a major problem. I don't understand not manning the heavy rescue and at least one ladder full-time.

    Okay, I got a notification that there was a comment and now I can't find the comment.

      From everything I have seen, the fire was put out by CMs. I am sure Reedy Creek was at notified at least for the fire marshal's office to investigate and someone probably came to check for hot spots and possibly do some overhaul. Again, based on videos, the fire seemed to be put out within 5 minutes. You also have to think of the logistics of driving a fire truck down the streets of Magic Kingdom, especially with all the other parade floats behind the dragon. Would have been a sight to see, that's for sure.

    How many fires does Orlando have compared to Reedy Creek? How many car accidents does Orlando have compared to Reedy Creek? How many mass casualty incidents does Orlando have compared to Reedy Creek? Don't get me wrong I still think Reedy Creek should get more fire personnel, but I would think that Orlando goes through more manpower hours than Reedy Creek does.
    By the way I live in Josephine County Oregon, 1,640 square miles with a population 90,000. We have 19 fire stations with only 7 engines that are staffed 24/7. It could always be better, but it's good enough for us.

    They asked for forty, and gave then ZERO. unreal. How did they justify not giving them any firefighters? They just said no? Might be time to vote out many on the board that does the budgets for that area. If they asked for forty, they probably need 100. That’s the sad thing. It’s gotten to the point in many cities, counties, towns and other where the fire chiefs have learned they will never get what’s actually needed so there programmed to always ask for much less and live with it. Flat out pathetic. Your very correct on the “Quints” by the way, they can be used for everything. The only issue is weight, sometimes there tough to bring off pavement.

    So the 173’ is real and it’s at Station 3, no waterway or pump, it’s on an International chassis and has the 173’ Bronto very useful in Monorail and SkyLifts calls.
    No longer 8 rescues only 7 now for 24 and the 8th is only 14 hours, I guess they can’t afford to run it for 10 more hours.
    Truck and Squad were never staffed and have always been cross manned.
    EMS coverage in parks have also been reduced and now they have less units and coverage hours for the parks, Admin decided to put them in vans without transport capability and run to the resorts and call for a rescue should a transport be needed.
    So basically what happens is on a transport from a resort when the van is dispatched they call for a rescue to transport the patient, so that means 2 units and 4 personnel are on that call for a already understaffed department .
