  • What a wonderful visit to Monkey World in Dorset to see the rescued apes and primates at the world famous amazing animal sanctuary
I was so moved to see the animals including chimpanzees, orangutans and primates at the sanctuary, and the amazing care they have received by Alison Cronin and the team, to rehabilitate them into new family groups, and to treat their physical and emotional wounds.
The food was excellent and they have a great range of merchandise in the gift shop, some of which I just had to purchased ! 🦧🐵🧡😊
This video features the Orangutan Nursery group. The group consists of 5 orangutans:
1 Male Sumatran Orangutan - Bulu Mata / Bulu
1 Female Sumatran Orangutan - Rieke
1 Male Bornean Orangutan - Hujan
1 Female Bornean Orangutan - Kayan
1 Adult Female Bornean Orangutan - Oshine
You can find out more info on these orangutans on the official Monkey World Website here: monkeyworld.org
And Here is a brief description of them:
Bulu born 4/9/2014 at Budapest Zoo came to Monkey World 9/12/2014 after his mother sadly passed away 1 week after his birth, The orphaned baby was cared for by his keepers until his move to Monkey World Creche. He has grown up to be a strong, stunning young male Sumatran Orangutan.
Rieke born 12/1/2015 at Zoo Berlin was cared for by her keepers after her mother sadly refused to care for her. The abandoned baby came to Monkey World on 23/2/2015 to the orangutan creche. She became very close to Bulu and still shares a very close bond with him after they grew up together. She is a beautiful, Sumatran orangutan
Kayan - born 16/6/2017 at Twycross Zoo (animals at this zoo are featured on this channel)
was orphaned at the age of 4, when her mother sadly passed away. The other orangutans at Twycross Zoo unfortunately would not accept her in the absence of her mother and so she came to Monkey World on 21/2/2023 to join the orangutan nursery creche. She is confident youngster with lots of social skills learned at her previous home.
Hujan - born 1/6/2017 Krefeld Zoo, Hujan's mother cared for him after he was born for a number of weeks, before she fell seriously ill. He was then cared for by his keepers. When he was reintroduced to his mother, she refused to take him. He arrived at Monkey World 11/3/2019 at first he was introduced to Tuan's group before being moved to the nursery creche in 2023. He gets on really well with the other youngsters in the group
Oshine is the adult female adopted mom to the youngsters in the creche
She was born in the wild estimated around 1997 and then captured as an infant in Indonesia. She moved to South Africa as an exotic pet and was given to a couple to raise as a pet in their home
She became difficult for them to raise in the home at 6-7 years old, so they build her an enclosure. After little exercise and a diet of sweets and processed food, she became morbidly obese at 100kgs. She came to Monkey World aged around 13 years ,where she lost her extra weight, after she was put on a proper diet. Being in the nursery has brought out her maternal instincts and the youngsters' love her.

    Bulu mata = eyelashes.
    Hujan = rain.
Sadly these orangutans haven't had the best lives, but at least they are in a safe place now.
    Thanks ape tracker. 🙏🏻

@@ApeTracker1while you were there, did you notice if they got the group of Baboons. That's where they left off last season. I can't wait for the upcoming season.

Wow. I have not seen video of Oshine in a very long time. I remember watching episodes of Monkey World from when she was still very overweight. I knew they would more than likely be successful at getting her down to a more healthy size, and so glad to see they truly have done a remarkable job of getting her healthy.
Bulu is a gorgeous Orangutan. Monkey World is an amazing organization. The work they do on behalf of primates is outstanding and an example of human beings living up to our reputation as the most intelligent species on the planet. Thank you so much for sharing your video of this remarkable place. .

Oshine has come a long ways, if you didn’t see her when she got there, you wouldn’t believe the weight loss and complete health change. Monkey world is amazing and they completely care about these animals and want the best for them. 💜💜

I didn't see her in person when she was overweight, but I have seen the Monkey World footage
She looks amazing now, the team at Monkey World have done an awesome job caring for her, and ensuring she, and all the animals in their care are healthy and happy.
I was in awe of her kind and nurturing nature to the babies and youngsters in her group, and the amazing way she walks bipedally on 2 legs ! she is a truly amazing ape ! 🦧🧡

Wow! Oshine has lost so much weight!! Fantastic!! The last season of Monkey Life was 16, and in it Oshine(Osheen?) Was 80 kilograms and still clinically obese. They said that they eventually wanted her to get pregnant but wanted her to be in good condition before even thinking about it. I know that they put a birth control implant in her then. But they don't always work so I'm a little bit surprised that they have her living with Bulu Mata. But maybe she didn't get along with the other alpha males.

Thank you, the colours of the orangs are beautiful, they all had thick colourful healthy hair, just stunning !
It was also really apparent, the colour differences between the Bornean and Sumatran youngsters
Rieke has beautiful, lighter, orange, hair that really glowed in the light, and the signature longer facial hair - she is so cute !
Bulu has impressive thick hair. Hujan, Kayan and Oshine have deeper orange hair and Kayan seems to have thinner hair on her head than when she was at Twycross Zoo
What's fascinating, is how much baby orangutan hair changes as they grow and mature. They sometimes have long wild hair when they are around a year old, only to loose it and get it growing back thicker as they mature into adults
      🦧🧡

Hello Kayan! (RIP Kibriah) . I bet Basuki misses you.
Easy to note the differences in the colours of the coats.. Oshine, as a Bornean, has a quite dark coat. It also appears she is a walker, fantastic. She walks with very straight legs and appears to have very long arms

Thanks for the video. AT. I wonder at Monkey World keeping Sumatran and Bornean orangutans in the same enclosure. Does MW plan to allow them to breed? If so, I hope they don’t mix the species. Sumatran orangutans are more critically endangered than the Bornean, and any couple of Sumatrans are a precious resource for the species. Nevertheless, I am glad that these ones have a home where they are well cared for.

I get what you mean, I know a lot of chimp sanctuaries who have lab chimps rescued will usually put them on birth control because every chimp born is a 30+ year commitment and the labs don't breed them with regards to their species at all so they might do that here, but orangutans are also a lot pickier so it's possible they do things differently
