Hey Thom! wanted to give you a tip! if you create a stereo aux you can place the other Pro Tools native reverb plugin called "Space" on it, if you pick the Stereo/5.0 version of the plug it converts the stereo aux to 5.0 (think the inverse of the downmixer). i don't know why but you can't place this plug on a 5.0 track. Anyways! after making it 5.0, it communicates normally with mono/stereo tracks being sent to 5.0 auxes BUT this let's you load IR samples into it! resulting in some really nice natural reverbs! especially for outside enviroments! i love your content! it helped me getting started with audio in film recently and i've actually landed my first gig thanks to your guides!
Hey Tom, great videos! Always a big fan of your content and very informative!! Would love to see a video on dialogue tone matching (ADR vs. Production DX) and placing someone in a proper space - i.e. If you have ADR but they need to sound like they're in a kitchen, or backyard, etc. This is something i always struggle with a little bit. Thanks for the great information!
Have you tried Accentize Chameleon2 on a mono aux? If the actor has already done their part, there's nothing more to do, lol. Many issues arise when the ADR is recorded close to the microphone.
@@igorkazmirchuk3674I do'nt have Chameleon, but it's on my wish list. It's amazing what it can do. The last shoot i was on, i got some time on set by myself in order to record some IR samples, and that was very useful and was able to use that in the post process which was exciting!!
Nice one, love that you're using Revibe, it's really underrated ! In my template I like having reverbs (and lfe) sends bypassed by default so I have a visual cue of what I'm sending to reverbs at any given moments. Thanks for sharing !
Love your approach man. I’m still slowly adopting folders but I’m obsessed with good housekeeping so they make total sense! I also favour using stock plugins as I’m often transferring mixes from my studio to others and it saves headaches. Also love the tip for separating audible language walla for the M&E. Foresight is everything in this game! (I’m Team Classic view too btw 😜)
Hey Tom! I'd love to see more of a breakdown for how you set up and route tracks for a stereo mix on a commercial or short film and how that would differ if intended for broadcast vs web.
Great video! I like the monitoring option, I also monitor from the printmaster channel because I never do bounce mix. It's interesting why nobody loves space? :-) There are plenty of great libraries for it, and they also get included in any session when you check the 'embed IRs in preset and session file' option.
Hey Thomas, Love you channel and some great information on here. I just have a question about monitoring through your input on you mix channel. Do you get a delay though that?
Hey Thomas. Thanks for creating this. I have a question for you about something you kinda skirted over in the video. What do you use all the separate (a,b,c,d) SFX tracks for? Like how do you separate your SFX? Is it by type, or is it just for scene checkerboarding etc? Thanks again, appreciate all you've taught me over the years.
Have always loved your videos Tom! Have you run into issues automating your routing folders? I've heard of that being an issue and why many (including myself) opt for basic folders instead
@@ThomasBoykin Mostly hearsay from people I've worked around/with that they would drop automation randomly. I haven't used it in awhile to confirm it myself
I don't understand why there's no 4.0 or 5.0 tracks in BG.. Some amazing room tones library in 4 or 5 channels gives more coherent space then 2 different stereo files. Then.. I heard PT users are struggling to mix surrounds fast so that's why they only use dual stereo ? easier to apply gain on the region ? just aksing. I have LCR, ambisonic tracks ... all I find in my libraries ready in my template.
Sometimes I use them, but stereo is easier to work with. I will often use one mono and 4 stereo tracks for a 5.0 ambience, that way I can adjust the individual channels as needed. Sometimes I want less rear speaker, and with a 5.0 track I would need to use a trim or spanner instance to adjust the rear or center.
I thought I was the only one left who likes the simplicity, sound and reliability of Revibe 2! lol! I do have 1 question for you about this. You have ENG Walla tracks. Are your BGs built so you can have a combo of walla tracks as well as tracks with noticeable language? I always have to find generic stuff with no discernible language for QC. I couldn't just take a notable language track out because the tracks would never match well. But maybe I'm over thinking it. There's never budget to do group walla... But maybe I'm overthinking it and it doesn't matter for QC? It's just, to me it would become a different mix and QC would reject because of the difference in BGs. Hope that made sense...
They should be minus infinity, but I keep the tracks in trim mode until I start mixing. In trim it looks like they are at unity, but if you flip out of trim they should snap to minus infinity.

Same routing, just different levels
It`s the most usefull channel on youtube. Thank You for sharing your workflow.
Wow, thanks!

Space is one of my secret weapons for sound design.
Can you please make a video on Pro Tools basics. Going over all the basic tools, and how to set up the session etc.
I have many video on this already
can you make a video about mixing LR to LCR
Such a great resource Thomas! Thank you 🙏🏻
My pleasure!
Hey Tom, nice content as always. One questions - why ReVibes are not at 100% wet?
They should be, there is a yellow button that enables 100pct wet without using slider
Hi Tom can you make a video on your izotope module chain please?
Agreed. Interested. Could you do a showreel of your iZotope RX Module Chains?
I have one on deck, it's been available for members for about a week and will go public on Monday.
Love your content!
I appreciate that!

Depends on the film, each one is different
I just renewed my protools license at the Studio level. Can this be integrated in studio? I’d love to manually redo this to get a strong feel for it.
Yeah, should work great! If not let me know and I can help you figure it out.
you have the same bug as me, where the font is dark in dark mode.
cant see nothing in tracklist. classic mode it is.
Yeah, I prefer classic mode!
Have always loved your videos Tom! Have you run into issues automating your routing folders? I've heard of that being an issue and why many (including myself) opt for basic folders instead
No, what issues? I mostly use VCAs for global adjustments so I probably havent put them through much abuse.

thanks a lot
Hey Tom, if was looking to bounce mix the stems would I need to set up new buses just for that?
No

Yes, I will mute the English for the MnE. It’s ok because that stuff should be regionalized
@@ThomasBoykin Interesting, thanks for that perspective!
Hey Tom, All of the reverb sends are defaulting to unity. Was there a reason they are all starting off sending?

Going back to the light!
