Oh man, this brings back memories! I was 10 at the time and Bruce Willis was still riding high from The Fifth Element. A friend's older brother rented it, but we never did beat it. Ugh those damn lava jumps!
Yet another random fun nostalgic game that I rented but never beat as a young teen. The cinematic at the end of your video where he ends up in the ladies shower room always stuck with me lol
Great review! Recently found your channel through your Warhawk review and binged all your content, really dig your style. As for Apocalypse, been meaning to play it for a while, shame to hear about the platforming though, seems like a weird design choice to focus on it when the action seems so well done
Beat this game this weekend and I had a good time with it. Great memories from playing it when I was younger but not sure if I ever finished it so nice to wrap up that chapter. Pretty damn fun
Yeah I use Duckstation. I have mixed feelings about it as I can capture the original hardware through RGB upscaled but in the end emulation is easier and looks better. PS1 emulation is just so good though and makes the graphics more palatable to modern audiences. But I may switch over at some point.
I use a scart cable to an OSSC. So the OSSC upscales the signal to 1080p and outputs to HDMI. However, I've been capturing footage with Duckstation, because it's easier....and I'm having issues losing signal to my capture device, which I haven't successfully fixed yet.
Great videos! I found you when looking to reminisce about Loaded then wanted to watch all the other reviews you have. I had forgotten about apocalypse. Seems like it held up. Maybe they should have given it a less generic name.
I never beat this game because I didn’t have a memory card, but I would consistently get to the platform level with the lava floor and always die It was a very fun game
So like another commenter, I was also 10 and a massive Bruce Willis and Fifth Element fan. I played this game off and on for years after that. I genuinely loved this game and finally beat it as an adult when I realized you can actually use DualShock sticks. Oh and SOAD’s War showing up in the city level was single-handedly responsible for my musical tastes in middle school.
Yeah rooftops was my second big hold as a kid also. First one i couldnt get past was in third level, when you need to destroy 2 tanks and smaller one is coming at you. He would always come too close and burn me to death. And rooftops platforming at the end where you need diagonal jump with floor getting destroyed.
I've thought about the format and inclusion of spoilers but ultimately decided to include them as they are 30 year old games and to document them more so than a typical review. I should probably include spoiler warnings, apologies.
This is a topic I've definitely thought about and in the end I went with the content I would like to see, as far as what I'm able to produce (I have no idea what I'm doing). I know it's a niche scene and I'm in the minority. I still actively collect and play these old games way more than current ones and most of the channels I enjoy do not gain a mass following. But I do love Caddicarus' channel, for example. But I could never pull off what he does, and it's painful watching countless videos that try and fail.
Behold the algorithm, it has brought us here to reminisce in the past.
You
I looked this up.

I'm sure the platforming level stopped most people, the last half of that level is ten times harder than anything else in the game.
Strap one on, it's time to jam.
Holy fuck this gave me the feels of childhood
Underrated game

I still have this game!
Please sell for
Just brought here by an algorithm, what a great channel.
Thank you!

Thank you!
I believe this game was responsible for my first ever all nighter.
What an excellent review
Thank you!

I think is pretty good unlike Bubsy 3D
Ah, the old games, where jumping correctly was harder than defeating 50 enemies simultaneously or defeating a boss or even the final boss.
😂
I never thought about it like that but you're exactly right. A lot of third person action games from the era have this problem.
Are you using emulation for your captures? They look great! Earned a subscriber for sure 😊

Are you running your games on a HDMI-modded PS1?

@@flizzzipper Ah, that explains the clean sharp image :D. I really like your reviews btw. :)

Thank you! Glad you could take a trip down memory lane. Yeah, Apocalypse is still great. Not sure how it wasn't on my radar back in the day.
Its kind of amazing how violent this game is for rated T. Kind of reminds me of Golden Eye n64
phone was reading my mind again. i was thinking of this game not 30 min ago. wasn't system in it?
Nice Video, Thumbs up for you.

Yeah, the game gets really hard there, the platforming is tough.

I was shocked SOAD was in the game. The Poe track Control is also pretty good from the game.
Very nice video
Recently found your channel. Love the reviews. Great style.
Thank you!
I use to love this game as a kid.
El mejor juego de mi infancia sentiaa esa emocion de jugar. Los creadores de ese video juego se volvio un clasico
Oh man. I don't know. Give me Nokatomi plaza or Dulles Airport
Try Die Hard Trilogy on PS1. It's actually pretty awesome.
New sub good work nostalgia.😊😅
i had this gex 2 and spyro 1 as a kid
I remember renting this it was hard as hell.
Great video! I never went past level 5 as a kid, i sucked!

good old times! @@rotgutthebloated4730
By far better games than todays AAA titles🎉
man this game was a chore to beat. i realized you could mostly just run forward and spam grenades. the cutscenes were fun and silly at least.
this game was so dope, i loved how it played
I really like Apocalypse. It's great.
Best game i have ever played in ps1
loved the video man.
Bruce Willis is so tiny in this game 😂
I like it
Same here bro!
I had the demo of this and played it to death sad to say I never played the real thing 😢

Such a kick ass soundtrack
I have a copy lots of good stuff. 😊
Great video! Thanks algorithm!
Thank you and the algorithm!
Hey the game one would be awesome.
Awesome thanks ❤
I am willing to bet this is yet another PlayStation title that would look good on the Nintendo switch, except the children aren't into sharing 😂
Dude a 7. Is good
I played the s**t out of this back in the day.
I will order a copy homes 😂😊😂❤
The game is a doom of 1998 man 😊
Fun game!
Medic!!!!!
Good reviews aren't about spoiling the story in the process.... Even if it's not a good one👎🏽

There is no point in reviewing games from the 90s, unless u make the content funny and entertaining. Just change the approach

"Just change the approach."
Dr. Evil: How about no.
