- In this tutorial I will demonstrate how to create a dress in Marvelous Designer.
I will demonstrate how I treat patterns, my commonly used tools, then taking the dress for detailing in Zbrush and demonstrating how I build the scene in 3ds max for visualizing in V-Ray.

I made a tshirt once- Level of difficulty: 1000 and this, I think its level 10000.
The dress pattern is hard but the principles and texturing stage is quite easy.

@@Pompidou3Dstudio during the animation the cloth simulation is passing through the model, which shouldn't have happened. I was using alembic formate for export

Teacher ... I live in love with your work, hypnotized with this fashion design program, it is like ... magic, really digital magic ... I have decided to devote myself fully to learning everything I can, I want to make all my creations From sweatshirts, jackets, and denim ... to character outfits and trying to ever make a piece of art like the ones you make ... it's amazing. Professor, I can think of something ... is there a real-time viewer where I can control, rotate ... move the model to show my clients what the clothes would look like? I imagine being able to show you in a meeting ... a hologram with that acrylic pyramid that reflects a character ... have you seen them? Well, it is important to know if there is a way to show the model ... some plugin that allows you to see it walking or standing and turn the camera in real time to show them the entire collection ... is it possible? Thank you very much for your time.

Amazing work! I wonder what pc specs are you working on. I've been using marvelous for a while but even my threadripper performs slow in simulations.
MD is slow on simulations but I optimize the model for faster workflow.
My PC and GPU are quite modest, nothing out of range. I do plan to upgrade my GPU though to something more powerful

Amazing work! How do you do the retopology of the clothes, is it a Zremesh? I was wondering for games such as AAA. I imagine it would take a lot of time if it's done by hand considering it has so many tiny folds.
MD now has a built in retop tool that greatly increased the time savior.
At that moment it didn’t have one.
AAA studios don’t usually do complicated dresses like this with folds and layers of fabric.
They do trousers, shirts, armor that can have a quick retop.
When they do a long dress, they won’t mostly bother about arm areas for animation and leave a skirt with default geo from MD. Bake all the details to it.
What I’m showing is an extreme sample, so people could use it on a more simple clothes :)

did you make the brushes you use for the wrinkles and material shading in zbrush or are they available somewhere? i've been looking for something delicate like that for the longest time. also this dress is beautiful! the lace is so hard to do, well done!!
sleepyglitter thank you! For wrinkles I used brushes which I once downloaded somewhere. I will search for the resource and let you know. But for decent folds you have to sculpt them manually. For lace pattern, I downloaded a texture from textures.com for lace on collar, the for the rest I got a flower from web and a grid I did myself in photoshop
Отличный метод. Ещё можно попытаться пошаманить с текстурами внутри самого Marvelous Designer, правда, его возможности в этом плане весьма ограничены (я пробовал). Zbrush... эм... а разве после него не нужно будет снова в лоуполи всё это превращать? Для экспорта в игровой движок, скажем?
Не нужно. У меня же основа сохранена, uv тоже, в браше я просто генерирую карту дисплейс и нормал и накладываю на основу :)

Thank you, but I don’t do clothes in real life) I don’t think I would be good in making patterns in real life either, I just learned the basis of how patterns work in the world and adopted that to MD, haven’t tried it for real though
это самое крутое, что видела по Марвелосу. Вообще, искала, как сшить две детали, если на одной из них есть вытачка.. По каким урокам вы учились?
Честно говоря просто экспериментирую что получится, если брать реальные выкройки. Сама программа очень простая, в ней больше интересно с выкройками работать. Обычно ищу в интернете аналог выкройки из реального мира и подстраиваю под себя.
очень красиво, как я поняла вы основу сделали в 3д максе, а закончили в збраше, и можно ли перевести подобные работы в выкройку?
Нет, основу я делала в Marvelous Designer, потом в 3д Макс подчищала и в браше делала детали. Рендер в максе.

Mostly comes from my experience and observations, but also from google: I search from historical diagrams, books, magazines….

Amazing job! Would love to do such a job! I have some questions, what are the software you are using ? MD, ZBrush, 3DMax and Photoshop?...In what format are you exporting from MD as OBJ, FBX? With what options?
I export as obj usually. And export as THIN, UNWELDED. Make sure unit scale correspond your project. Mine is in CM.

Привет, а у тебя артефакты при запекании не образуются? Если да, то как ты их решаешь?
Артефакты могут появляться. Без этого никуда.
Решаю двумя способами:
1. Если есть возможность, правлю геометрию. Скорей всего не хватает в этой области разрешения или геометрия пересекает друг друга. Немного могу отодвинуть или пододвинуть ближе.
2. Если совсем никак, закрашиваю артефакты в фотошопе руками.

how much does it take to do all this art work in real life , like with out the speed timing?
If not get distracted by other projects it could take around 3-5 day to make this type of dress. I usually book 5-7 days to complete a suit when working on commercial project but always complete it sooner than expected.

В целом это на 1-2 дня работы. (В основном время потратила на создание топа. Перемудрила с выкройками). Но у меня маленький ребёнок, поэтому процесс затянулся на неделю где-то:)

My PC is kind of middle power.
Before I used to work on weak laptops and MD worked fine. Maybe you are doing something wrong?

It is Substance Painter, now it has a different name, Adobe 3d paint I think, but if you search with “substance Painter” it will find the right one.
I'm not trying to offend, but the title should be changed to "Creating Lace in Substance Painter" so as to not confuse people when you switch software.
I think at that time my main goal was to show how to create this pattern in MD. Substance Painter went as a continuation of my workflow. MD wasn’t designed for complicated texturing, it’s strong side is fabric simulation.
