My man from DePaul...great player. Guy had it all offensively, including a great post-up game. Mark Cuban, how the hell is this guy's jersey not in the rafters?
He would be in the rafters had he not sold his soul to Isiah Thomas...
That part!
@@alfredooliva5175 dumbest fucking comment.
I was at that game. Remember it vividly. He should have his number retired.
How the game has changed! Guys like Aguirre (and Dantley), 6'4"-6'-5", with a post up game. Now, 7 footers don't even play the post.
And Barkley was 6,4
Aguirre was 6'6", had long arms, and big hands soo he played a lot taller than he was. Plus he had that big caboose and was thick so he could hold his position on the low block until he made his quick move. You add in his ability to face up and either drive and finish with both hands or shoot from deep with a nice touch and mark was a walking bucket.
@@jingqi9106 Aguirre was almost 6'5 with no shoes.
this guy is so underrated...in his preime was a 25-5-5 player in a vaery good team(80's dallas) and of course a key member and 3rd scorer of bad boy's pistons who won 2 champs.
His dad was born in mexico, raised in an arkansas farm here in the USA, his mother was 16 years old and of african descent. She left back to chicago 9 months pregnant and went in labor on the train ride home. Thus mark was born in chicago. He can be considered one of the first mexican/americans to play in the NBA...Amazing how he played back when the league was actually the NBA...Now its shoot 3's only league...haha..
He's from my old neighborhood, Imy uncle knew him, his grandfather was Puerto Rican. I watched him in the neighborhood as a young teenager, he went to our neighborhood school. I seen him and Isaiah on the neighborhood playgrounds. He went to Austin high school. Then he transferred to Westinghouse high school. Bog mark, is not a mixed black and Mexican person, your facts are wrong.
This is my half brother... Love u bro!
Big Mark. Man I use to watch him in High School and Pro Am Summer League Games. He killed them all the exact same way. Mark was so underrated. If he had been in the EAST earlier in his career he would be a Hall of Famer. Mavericks could not get past the Lakers.
Aguirre was a beast. Pure scorer. When he was at DePaul they were number 1 ranked in the nation for 2 out 3yrs he was there. Then they would get knocked out in the first round because of free throws all the time. It's a shame because he should have got at least 1 championship with all the talent they had. Most of it coming off the west side of the chi. It killed me when Dillard missed free throws at end of game they should have won against st. Joseph's. At least he got him 2 in the nba when he teamed up with another west side legend from the chi in Detroit, Isaiah Thomas.
This man would feast today oh lord . Game crazy refined
Big Mark is my favorite Mavericks player of all time! He never got tha credit he deserved for being so viscous at barely 6'6. Aguirre was a killer in his prime, and down to earth/real off tha court too. Respect ✊🏼
Same is true for Mark Aguirre/ When I wear Weapons, I'm on fire
Thanks for this video! Aguirre could score in so many ways it was insane.
A great player. As has been said before, if he'd played in the East he'd be in the Hall of Fame.
+DSC Charabin He "is" in the Hall of fame !!!!!!!!
+ROOK30 no he isn't!
Do I have to insult you because you can't bother to google whether he is in the HOF or not? Don't be lazy and make stupid statements. Because it makes you look dumb. Aguirre is NOT in the Hall of Fame.
College Hall of fame, yes, not NBA Hall of Fame yet. Sadly
Hard to believe they have yet to put him in the HOF!
Hall of Fame worthy!!!
Absolutely a joy to watch Mark Aquirre score buckets🏀
1:36: And they say that Texas is just a Football State🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿🤦🏿
why the hell was Kurt Rambis defending him? loool
They didn't want Worthy or Kareem in foul trouble.
Crash dummy
West siiiide
Mark was smooth like butter with a assassin mentality. Jump shot and finger roll was smooth!
The type of SHOOTING Aguirre put on against us in that 1986 western conference semifinals despite us prevailing in 6 games, is why dr buss briefly explored the possibility of trading James worthy for mark Aguirre & a 1st round DRAFT pick which would have been roy tarpley (rip) people not old enough to remember Aguirre was Carmelo Anthony before Carmelo Anthony, this dude was literally a 27-29ppg guy for years and years before being traded to the pistons & making that championship sacrifice that probably shaved about 12-15ppg off of his lofty career average! Note: IM SO GLAD DR BUSS DIDN'T MAKE THAT TRADE & WE KEPT BIG GAME JAMES WORTHY 🙏
Aguirre was a great shooter but was streaky. I enjoyed watching his performances against Bird and the Celtics.
Adrian DANTLEY didn't have a repertoire of offensive skills and one on one moves off the dribble like Aguirre did
I don't recall AD ever dunking a basketball.
The Paul Pierce of his generation.
+PeekaPeep Didn't get his props which was in a way his fault. (He acted up in Dallas) He was better than Paul Pierce .On offense he is a fat Michael Jordan without the speed or ups but with the quickness, moves and a better J. I KNOW PEOPLE WILL TAKE THAT THE WRONG WAY..
+PeekaPeep Ironically, Pierce and Aguirre have the same middle name. I found that out on google.
+ROOK30 ill take pierce
+Burrang dangdang give me Aguirre over pierce.
Aguirre should've already been in the HOF! Media is a joke..😏
my mom sat behind hin at Westinghouse
Å
I was at this game and all but one of the Mavs Playoff games in the 1980's. Great times.
Take note 2023 NBA and kids.
used to love the matchup against the Lakers in the late 80s. The late night games(for Dallas) that were primetime on the west coast were epic.
My all time favourite NBA player!
Just watch him he was Jordan b4 Jordan, just not as loose nor a ball hog 💯
MJ averaged more assists than Aguirre lol
This guy was at least '6-3' 6-4 at best he definitely wasn't "6-6"
Commentators massacred his last name..smh
+MajorImpact his last name is actually pronounced with both the R and E emphasized, in Spanish, the E is not silent, it's a Latino last name
+Edwin Guerra Aguirre didn't even known the origin of his surname, and for him the correct pronunciation was the one used by the commentators. In fact, a Spanish magazine interviewed him and he almost got angry because they were pronunciating his surname in the Spanish and original way. So if he wants to use another pronunciation for his name, he's in his right.
I mean, that is the way you pronounce his last name with an emphasized R and E. But if he wants to say it as Aggwire, then that is on him. Might as well pronounce Lopez with a silent E and Martinez as Martins
Dude had huge hands, quick feet and a sweet touch.
39 pts for Mark AGuirre
Aguirre was one of my FAVORITE THREE small forwards back then.. Dantley & B.King were the other two 👌🏾
Oh my!
Not a whole lot of defence in that game :-)
Mark Aguire, nothing to write home about
Aguirre is a flat out scorer..the coach motta i believe hated him cause he was lazy at defense...he would be right at home and MVP canditate i todays no defense league..my lord he would be scoring at will
up on lakers by 20 end of game lakers win by few ppoints due to endless wakky calls on other team lol = how lew given titels
