  • I have always wanted to do something for Diabetes UK since I fell in love with a T1 pumper! For those of you who don't know, that is someone who suffers from Type 1 diabetes and uses an insulin pump to regulate their blood sugar level.
I will (hopefully!) be cycling from London to Paris in under 72 hours from the 4th - 6th September 2015. I need your help to raise as much money as possible for Diabetes UK before then!
Diabetes UK are continually supporting people like Ellie and are constantly helping to fund research for a future without the condition. Please find more information about what Diabetes UK do on their website:

70 miles is no small thing. Well Done! I know its hard and don't compare yourself to other cyclists. You are not them and everyone starts off the same. You are doing a great thing and for an awesome cause. Keep up the good work we are all proud of you and supporting you any way we can. When you do the main ride to Paris you will find it considerably easier knowing you have company. Seriously well done. xxx

Please don't compare yourself to other people and bring yourself down, George! Everybody is different, and we each have different abilities to accomplish what we do! Try and remember that every professional cyclist has been in the position that you've been in - as they were definitely not born with the ability to ride a hundred miles in one go
Keep pushing forward and remember you should try and focus on yourself and how you can improve, rather than the abilities of others. Thoughts like those only serve drag you down into the dumps (which is never good!) and can really never have a positive outcome. Improving yourself is what you should focus on.
There will always be that one person who is somehow better than you no matter how hard you try! Keeping up your determination & drive to finish a goal is all that matters :)
    Best of luck!

So happy you got the keychain, liked it, and it offered some support already! That's my goal achieved. I hope it will do the same for you on the ride to Paris. And like some other people here have said already: Don't beat yourself up! I personally probably wouldn't even make it halfway through, and I think just shortly over a month ago, you might not have either. You've come a long way, be proud of yourself. Maybe there are some other cyclists in London or wherever you are going to train next, who are also doing the ride, so you could meet up with them? I'm sure if you reach out to anyone who's doing the ride as well, they would love to help along. Keep ya head up high, George! x

Loved it! This was nice.. Congratulations on what you're achieving. And mind you, it's much harder to do 70 miles on your own than riding 10 times as far (?) with other people. And yes, I find this personally inspiring, both to be more physical (I mean if Athelstan can go out and ride 70 frikkin miles...) and also to eat a healthy, low-fat vegan diet, which is the best way to prevent type 2 diabetes :D. Well done, George.

You're doing an excellent job! :) I think being able to cycle for 70 miles is awesome. I doubt I would be able to ride that far on a bicycle.

Another reason for feeling weak might be that glucose activates the parasympathetic nervous system, the one that's active during rest. It means that less blood will go to your muscles and stuff. But whatever it was George, amazing job. With how determined you are, I don't think you have to doubt whether or not you are able to do it.

You can do this. Ellie has to be so proud of you. You can see it in her face how proud she is of you. Chin up. Each day is different, and designed to prepare you for days to come. My thoughts and prayers will be with you when you take your ride.
