"Thunder Bringer" is the fifth and final song in The Thunder Saga. Retribution arrives in the form of the punisher of the gods, Zeus. Zeus gives Odysseus an ultimatum: he could die for his crew, who killed and ate Helios' cattle, or he could let them suffer their fate and save himself. Further Notes (WITH SONG / MUSICAL SPOILERS): It is possible that the Penelope singing at 2:33 is a vision conjured up by Zeus to manipulate Odysseus. It would make sense that the dramatic orchestral swell at 2:53 that cuts off her line and is followed by an abrupt burst of thunder, could be Zeus taking that vision away, leaving Odysseus to realize the choice was already made in his own head. This interpretation was inspired by Neal Illustrator's animatic [ ua-cam.com/video/gtKNgFftV5Y/v-deo.htmlsi=Vnbhj0bfKBO5JkE_ ] but is also supported by the animatic from Jay's livestream that plays during this part, in which Penelope appears as a yellow vision from the clouds above. It is not the first time in the musical Zeus has used a vision to manipulate and persuade Odysseus.
honestly, bro has every right to choose himself over his crew. He did his best to get them home but they betrayed his trust and defied his orders three times, each time killing them off. If I was him, I'd be so fed up. Like, they all almost got home but then they opened the bag and then he got stabbed for getting them on track home with only 6 casualties instead of trying to fight scylla and losing more people and THEN they didn't listen to him when he warned and even pleaded for them to not kill the cows since it would anger the sun god and then put them in even more danger. They constantly put themselves in danger by not listening to Odysseus and then run to him when things go wrong. It can only happen so many times before a person grows tired of running to your aid. BRO WANTS TO BE A DAD, A HUSBAND, AND A KING!!
i mean i think he is in the right he got betrayed cause his crew didnt trust him and even stabbed him then disobeyed orders which in the end got the god of thunder to be angered so its really their own fault
@@GhostGaming-tb4rk his crew betrayed him cuz he betrayed them first he literally sacrificed 6 men and then admitted to it- I wouldn't be able to trust him either. And then it was really Eurylochus's fault because he's the one who tried to kill the cow while Odysseus literally begged him not to. That's why Apollo called Zeus to smite them and THEN Odysseus kills however many men they had left? (I'm guessing around 37 since the last set number we had was 43 and then 6 died) in favor of himself to save his wife which was js like genuinely wrong of him
@@crossxgear4507 Eurylochus opened it but before that in Luck runs out we see the Eurylochus is doubting Odysseus bcz of what happened in Polyphemus's cave combined with the wind goblins lying to him yu can definitely see where he's coming from. And regardless of if he was justified in opening it or not it's not like I'd Odysseus ONLY gave him payback he killed six other men in the lair of Scylla which is when Eurylochus came clean anyway so yuh
I'm not sure if this has been stated else where but with the ending of the song having the sweet and peaceful piano refrain it feels like the return of relationship with Athena. She warned him he would regret choosing sentimentality in his crew and his feelings over the objective need of the mission, and now that he has reaped all of that she is able to restart relationship with him. I expect that in the next saga we get god games or athena via mentor making friendship with telemachus.
I do find it interesting how this does make Zeus more... sadistic. In the original it was just Apollo whining to Zeus that they needed to be punished and Zeus goes "UGH FINE SHUT UP" and hurls a thunderbolt at their boat. Odysseus surviving was honestly more luck.
what will you do, Father? You can no longer hide behind the skirts of Athena. The hands of death could not defeat me. The sisters of fate could not hold me. and you will not see the end of this day🫵🏻. I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE ! 🗡️⛓️
What type of singer the Zeus actor is? Idk how to explain, the tone? The range? Im not sure, specifically the "thunder bringer, here to ring your ears..." part, I love his voice there

@@kingmxjup1825 i couldn't agree with this any more than i already do
*slowly realizing 'I'm just a man' was literally just a giant hunk of foreshadowing.*
So true 🫣
But when does a man become a monster rawr rawr rawr
Monster rawr rawr rawr😂@@nozzrik4472
I like how even this song makes it as if Zeus is a person you don't want to be in a room with for various reasons....
It’s exactly something you would expect Zeus to say
It be easier to make a list of things that arent reasons to not be in the same room with him.

Ruthlessness it’s the main theme of epic
Idk. In the Mutiny song, some men were chanting his name. Also, they did keep him alive after he was stabbed.
it's awesome how thru the musical you see how the man becomes the monster. that said odysseus is not eating rn

The next saga is called 'The Wisdom Saga' and will do exactly that lol. It has Athena + Telemachus songs, and ends with God Games so! You're spot on!
Just listening to this song while it's thundering. Don't mind me

I think he is a baritone, I’m a baritone, and my voice doesn’t crack anytime I sing this lol
Freakin love this
The opening before lyrics gives naruto/anime vibes
