I feel that Melodic Death Metal is the best genre of heavy music. It's then power meets awesomness and purity comes with the passion
+Дина Хая Рубина (AtaklenA17) I agree, although I would also say metalcore and deathcore are 2 of my favourites
Sam Do you like Killswitch Engage?
Дина Хая Рубина
I'm not a big fan but I do really like some of their songs
Sam I like songs there are growling and clean vocals together
Дина Хая Рубина
Yeah, there is a lot of deathcore and metalcore i dislike, but when it is done right with good cleans/ screams it just sounds amazing. Killswitch engage is a good example of that, even though i'm not their number 1 fan
For those who don't know :
- Iridium is a rare metal on earth, but often found in meteorites.
- The ferryman at around 2:00 is a reference to Charon.
- Rilke wrote a poem called "Falling Stars" ("Weißt du noch: fallende Sterne"), which ends with "while in our hearts we felt safe and secure
watching these brilliant bodies disintegrate, knowing somehow we had survived their fall.".
- The owl is the guardian of the souls in celtic and egyptian mythology, leading the deads into the afterlife, same as Charon. Might also be a reference to Hegel.
Alex Jones would disagree with you about the symbolism of the owl
@@austina6602 Alex Jones is a conspiracy theorist... he disagrees with almost everything.
Since my other comments are buried somehwere here 10 years ago I'd add it here:
The Rilke reference at 0:47 could also be referencing his "Zweite Elegie" (in the "Duineser Elegien" in English "Duino Elegies") where he speaks of "tödliche Vögel der Seele" ( "deadly *birds of the soul* ")
Also: The owl in general symbolizes wisdom (because of its ability to see in the dark) and is associated to Minerva. And Minerva (93) on the other hand is, guess what, also the name of a large asteroid in our solar system.
Yet, 11 years have passed since the release of that video clip and you somehow decoded the images we watch here.
:) Niklas Sundin must be behind that.
Interesting.
Wow the graphics are amazing
you have a good taste of music man
man I haven't listened to this in forever. Still sounds beautiful
i know right last time i listed to this song i was 5 or 6 now im 14 and i still love it
don't mean to burst your bubble mate but this song was released in 2010 so you'd have been at least 8. Still great that you're a young metalhead tho and have been for a while.
Listening to this while driving at midnight in the middle of nowhere.... Marvelous. Out of this world. Like trip through the time and space.
You must be a pagan. It's beautiful isn't
@@emeraldtaurus2680 spot the brainwashed religious person game is getting too easy
Implosion of consciousness amidst 3 axis among 4 dimensions. Thank you.
This is indeed something beyond metal... I don't think I have words to describe how awesome I feel every time I hear this song.
Niklas Sundin is a pure Artist. God, how is it possible to be such a good guitarist and graphic artist at the same time? I bow to you, Niklas.
Just. . .wow. I can't even comprehend how awesome this is. It reminds me of classical music somewhat, like two steps from hell or something of that nature. I have never heard of this band until now, so I'm completely stunned.
Just found them myself!the second song I listen from them...just wow!
Gracie T. It's because it's melodic death metal. Behind the growling vocals and slamming drums is a sweet melody that although you might not be able to pick out, that part of your mind that you can't really control does. And that gives you that mesmerizing feeling.
+Socratic Paradox Welcome to Dark Tranquillity
I just loved how you described their music, I share the same feelings about it...
Then you should also give Skyfire, Be'lakor and Insomnium a try!
All these years, not listening melodic death metal! What a loss! Sing Mikael, sing for me!
I know the feel man... I spent years listening to thrash exclusively, then I discovered Scandinavian melodeath... All this time I've been mason out
This song made me cry when I was 13. It was literally the song that got me into Metal.
btw, I want to get the entire music video as a Tattoo.
+Apollyon The Destroyer do it
How come I haven't listened to this song before ? This one is the perfect harmony of beauty and darkness. I can not describe how I feel. Words literally fail.
+Soner çetin amazing , bro ! DT ............
i was just reading about elements and i stumbled upon Iridium(ir) and it reminded me of this song. and now that i watch the video knowing about the element.. its all clear that it is talking about the k/t event , aka the extinction of the dinos 65mill years ago , of course we all know that DT lyrics go a little deeper than a simple event, so it may mean something completely different but still i believe that it is related in a symbolic or metaphoric way . i hope im not repeating things that someone else or the band itself said before, im just all enthusiastic with sciense..
even around 2:52 you can see a meteor with the word "irid".. the meteor from that event contained LOTS of Iridium, marking the line between geological eras by the extreme amount of iridium in the surface of the earth at that given moment, damn it .. this is so interesting.. really.. read about it.. it is interesting shit.
Franco Buzzetti I believe its something different. Only because there are humans and signs of human civilisation in the video, the dogs and the slug look mutated, and a crater in the earth.
I believe its more to do with a nuclear bomb, if one of them gets sent to country they are gonna fire back, will be a disaster. An end beyond compare iridium.
Also for the alien part, Google Germany 1561. Very fucking interesting. Shame theres not a lot about it :s
Th3 S3RV3 it all seems possible man, i still believe that is related to my previous idea, maybe the presence of humanity is related to our evolution "we fragile naked rare scattered across forever out from creation's core" :p why can't some member of DT just read this and answer our doubts? ahahaha
that thing from germany seemed interesting.. never heard about it .i'll read more about it .
ps:it's nice to see someone discusing these stuff with me :P i guess most people just read it and said "meh,,crazy guy.." ahahaha
Franco Buzzetti The whole point of being an individual right :p. All makes sense in the right mind xD
They probably do think we are crazy, but maybe its just that we have a better understanding than everybody else ;)
Franco Buzzetti Pretty sure the lyrics are :
Shattered into a million brighter stars
Each flare unique and rare
Scattered across forever
Out from creation's core
Don't know if that might help you dig further into your ideas, but I had to say it just 'cause.
Edit: try Darklyrics for your lyrics, usually the most accurate site out there with Metalarchives when it comes to that
I came here because my art teacher showed this to the class because we are in a bold abstract art unit and I gotta say the song is pretty good
That’s a good art teacher.
@@zebulonswearingen4607 another fun fact about her is that she is a devout Christian woman and a metalhead 😂
This enigmatic song is a synthesis of mystique and breathtaking lyrics.
This is a truly beautiful song, it truly represent "dark tranquility".
Love the post-rock influence in this song. So great
Thank you, PMRants
It's strange, voice is so violent, but music melancholic, it relaxs, but without letting you get sleepy. Melody repeats in such an harmonic way that feels like meeting an old friend.
Love it.
Most people would consider this song a nuisance. In that I find it very strange that it actually makes me cry. I don't really need a stupid love story for tears. This songs summarize our helplessness in life (our evolution and transition to consciousness from the unconsciousness). It is so sad that once we were seperated from the stars to take our human forms today for no reason; it is indeed an end beyond compare and the saddest story I have ever heard.
I find people all around me who get intimidated by love stories etc.....well I always felt that I maybe the only one who thot "outside" perhaps delving a bit deeper into the narrow crevices of life learning broadening my vision every time I peer into them...
These metal songs gives those shivers and enlightens me though my frens think they are just loud and have no meaning...:/
well tbh, not humans. pretty much everything that isnt hydrogen
Oh there IS a reason why we took those human forms :)
Actually the sad part about this song is that a meteor strikes and we all die
I completely agree ik I'm 5 years late, but this song still makes me cry to this day, it's so beautiful yet so haunting and depressing
i saw this long ago. i still come here to watch it. its So Wierd. So Unique, and So Fascinating. its like, i cant pull myself away. its an added benifit i love the song and the band.
Their music is so calm, and moody ... hmmm. Ahh that would explain why they're called Dark Tranquility!
Quite possibly one of the most captivating videos I've ever seen. The explosion at 0:55 is the most emotionally driven chorus I've heard from any metal band in existence. They really put heart into making this song, and it shows. It's like every single time I hear it, I can see a visual image of a supernova sending its remnants into the far corners of the universe.
Just saw these guys the other night play this song live and it was EPIC. My fave
This is what I call an epic song.
I'm so glad they made a videoclip of my favourite song of "We Are The Void" album.
Thumbs up if it's your favourite too!
Such a beautiful song...and that music video!!! C:
Haven't listened to Dark tranquility in quite a while. This is beyond my expectations hearing them again. This is amazing
That chorus.... It's so atmospheric. Amazing
This was absolutely beautiful.
I dont know what I hold closer to my heart: Chemistry or DT
For people thinking this is Brutal Death Metal or Black metal. This is a more Melodic Death Metal but Mikael Stanne has a somewhat black metal sound in his growls (as you can compare to Carach Angren and other bands). If you like this you'll most likely enjoy old In Flames (their new stuff is good, but it's not their melodeath past).
In flames is Garbage, who think that DT is brutal death?
Insomnium
@@Hellenicheavymetal Omnium Gatherum
Melodic Black/Death?
@@aliceangel03 crazy i made this comment when i was like some cringey 17 year old lmao
But nah melodic death metal sure, melodic black metal falls in line with bands like Alghazanth or Dissection
PmRants is right, this shows that death-metal can be true art
Much more often than pop certainly
PmRants knows his shit
PMRants brought me here too! I kinda liked the song too even though I don't like death metal or, as I thought this sounded, black metal. I thought the screaming parts were more black metal than death metal.
This is really awesome, but I still like brutal death metal too.
Hey I like Phil mason!
DARK TRANQUILLITY sind genial, eine der besten Bands !
This song reminds me of a friend i once had named Brett Coffey, i miss him. He was a brother to me. When he showed me this song we were at the peak of our friendship. Now we are what? Nothing? Life fucking blows dude
Okay, who gave the animators LSD again?
Try watching a Tool video
Then come back here
tool video is"DMT"
I was meeeeeee!
id like to know that too
sephiroth8261 😂
so beautiful! My favorite song from We Are The Void.
This basically encapsulates the arc of the universe. A timeless, incredible song every music fan should hear at some point.
I remember the first time I watched and heard this. After 6 months, I realized I had to find it again
Let the horizon lead
Onto the ether of the night
Draped across the burning heavens
Flying homeward like a bird of the soul
Shattered into a million brighter stars
Each flare unique and rare
Scattered across forever
Out from creation's core
An end beyond compare
Iridium
Now is the time to leave
We lie awake, we stand afire
At the edge of the world
Above a myriad of light
Below the mantle of the stars
And strangely they fall
Shattered into a million brighter stars
Each flare unique and rare
Scattered across forever
Out from creation's core
An end beyond compare
Iridium
Shattered into a million brighter stars
Each flare unique and rare
Scattered across forever
Out from creation's core
An end beyond compare
An end beyond compare

The best of the best from Tranquility!
The melody to the chorus of this song brings tears to my eyes. Its just beautiful.
This song I dedicate to the one I loved. To the one I wish I never met. To the one I wish were never born. To the one I'd die for. To the one that my heartbeats skip when I see. To the one I despise. To the one that ruins me. To the one that makes me not want to live. To the one that kills me.
One of the only Death Metal tracks that can give me chills and bring a tear to my eye. Such a heartbreaking and solemn song.
Love love love this song! It means so much for me. This song was present in hard moments in my life
been a fan for a few years, never heard this song. may have just become my favorite. so hauntingly beautiful. that signature DT melody.
I'm in love
This is stunning! So psychedelic and sooooo unbelievable beautiful 🔥
I don't hear too much great-sounding death metal, but this is freakin badass! I want this played at my funeral!
The first death metal song I ever liked, and for good reason. I find myself coming back to it even after 5+ years now. The perfect combination of beauty and darkness.
Melodic death. Pure death metal is mostly chugga chugga.
@@EzekielGoldbergII Yes, I had a period where I listened to nothing but Cannibal Corpse, but that can only hold a person's attention for so long. I think "pure death-heads" do themselves a disservice by limiting themselves to one subgenre of metal, and too often metalheads do themselves the same disservice by only listening to metal (I was this exact person until not long ago).
@@giygas7392 you should try the sound of The preseverence by Death (i mean it's popular but if you haven't already) it makes a good job at making the music still interesting and somewhat melodic while still being pure death metal
Unul dintre cele mai bune clipuri din cate am vazut!!!
This is pure art
This clip deserves way more views.
I just cried... this is the most beautiful work of art I have ever heard/seen. This song is probably their best song that represents them as a band. This mournful dirge manages to completely blend Death Metal and Melodicism an such a harmonious way that they don't even seem to be two different sounds, but one and the same. All the intensity and power of Death Metal, living symbiotically with the grace, emotion, and beauty that comes from good, clean acoustic songs. Bravo. Bravo.
This video is stunning, no matter how many times i watch it. The music is perfect as well.
3:04 solo riff is great!
Yeees
Genius
Whatever drug the guys who made did video took, I want some. Immediately.
Lead guitarist: Niklas Sundin did this apparently. He does all the album covers too I believe.
seems like LSD bad trip)
Best track of dark tranquility ever
yes
Beautiful. Thanks.
I am not really a fan of rock music because I didn’t find my own tune with the songs.
But the music video was gorgeous and fantastic.
The melody and the deserted landscape makes this song really immersive.
The overall composer did a great job at viewing the dark and haunting images that re-occur in the score.
Truly breathtaking song choice.
@@Nihilio don't be a dick. in the context of all music that exists, this is rock music: guitars, drums, bass, singing, and a song based on a verse and a chorus.
rock, lol you seem to not know a lot about the metal scene, this song and band's genre is Scandinavian Melodic Death Metal.
When my dad died I drove around for 3 hours trying to clear my mind listening to this song on repeat. Even though it probably isnt true, I like to think that after he passed he was able to see the beauty of the universe by becoming a part of it.
I love this song. I can listen to this all day. And I love the graphics, great artist!
👍...me too 😊
Hi guys, we have created a fan-made video for this song come see my channel, please write comments.
so unbelievably awesome and beautiful!!
If I die I want this song to be played at my funeral, and I want someone to come dressed as the Grim Reaper.
You should say when ı die however great idea.
the beginning melody sounds like ''in my time of need'' from OPETH
what a unique, beautiful song and video...
Truly a work of art that will never hit the limelight of the worlds eyes.
so this is 3 years old and has 657,804 views, whereas Anaconda by Nikki Minaj came out a month ago and has millions of views.
*sigh*
hey, at least the anaconda fart remix is still fucking hilarious.
Yes yes we know, the world is a cruel place. It isn't going to change anytime soon. Plus over 650k views is pretty good, there are other mind blowing bands that have way less.
this is true man Omair Sheikh
Omair Sheikh Very true, for instance, Scar Symmetry. That band is fucking amazing, with beautiful melodies and lyrics, but yet nobody knows them, a shame really, I would class them as a masterpiece among metal.
Henry Davies dude I love them! Ghost Prototype II is a great song!
cartoon's a bit trippy. I was directed to this song by a friend. Such wow.
To quote James Rolfe, probably meant for kids.
Little kids.
Little kids who get hopped up on sugar to the point that their brains operate on higher levels of existence and their super sensory nerves subject them to a fantasy world exceeding that of an adult on the most powerful narcotics known to science.
Avalos Are you talking about cartoons?
It's so awesome! I don't know what to say... quite a while since a song gave me the shivers
fantastic song and video. found a place in my heart at the first minute.
Yeah!! 😊
This is so fucking beautifully dark. It is indeed one of my most favorite songs ever. I can't help but to think of what it would be like if the background-ish sounds during the chorus were a little more clear and vibrant, during that one part it sounds a little 'shelly' or 'plastic cuppy'(as if you were listening to the chorus through one or the other).
As I said, I fucking LOVE this song & its very unlike their recording quality, so maybe my speakers need a fresh calibration?
anyone else get a weird lovecraft vibe from the video?
There's an animated kids movie about his his stuff
yes love lovecrafts work just found this band loving them as well
yes, I do.
I do, but I don't fully understand why, maybe it's the imagery used and general theme of the song, cause there's no direct reference to Lovecraft's work in here
Emanuel , there are squids forming hexagrams and all the monstrosities of deformed creatures as well as the sense of cosmic dread and mankind insignificance in the universe. is very lovecraftian
That's what the replay button is for! I would rather gouge my eyes out than listen to this for the last time. But I see your sentiment. Amazing song.
This is how music should be, everybody is getting together and speculating on the meaning of the song which is great
I keep repeating from 0:50 - 1:30, so fucking beautiful
0:37
His heart is Iridium. The dots are the electrons. The meteor about to destroy the planet is labeled Iridium.
I believe this song is about the cycle of matter. Billions of years from now, the matter that composes us will be a part of the cosmos. We will all be stars, meteors, planets, nebula, and even different forms of life.
Also, the owl that appears at 0:46 for a second is carrying a book by Rilke. I'm not familiar with his work, but maybe somebody else is?
I saw the owl as extraterrestrial, or extrasolar. Culture has lots of nods to owls watching. Who watches the watchers? Owls are not what they seem.
Whether spiritual or other, always watching.
You have the 3 ships approaching earth.
Once Iridium has annihilated life on earth, or mutated it to extremes. Maybe in the far future, we are visited by curious eyes.
Or the extrasolar owl IS iridium, and the ships are an asteroid cluster. Then we are truly buggered by this cosmic horror.
Just the way it is meant to be played... Pure perfection!
One of the most original video ideas I have ever seen. AND it goes along perfectly with the lyrics and overall feel of the song. Simply amazing. I love it.
damn that music video is scary.
Is it odd that I don't find it scary :/
It ain't scary. It's just the art style that makes it look like that.....Plus the ominous undertone of course. But it's not scary.
i would say it's nerve racking but is not what it wants to make you feel like? it wants to make you feel uneasy.
Nah, it's beautiful.
:OOOODDDDDDDD
Its just so beautiful... perfect
This is easily the most beautiful song I have ever heard.
LSD is one hell of a drug.
The creators of Adventure Time made this video
you have to be kidding. you shure do
Niklas Sundin didn't create Adventure Time but many awesome albums.
visual design of the stunning music...it's divine...
amazingly amazing .. no one has the right to dislike this
I really like DT, but the drugs in this one are high...
this is clearly about chernobyl
dark tranquillity are so goddamn genious!! they come up with better ideas each time and never gets old
With Niklas artist talent, i'm surprised DT didn't do it before.
Awesome video
Lyrics are great, great song in general.
This is the most beautiful video clip i ever see..
SOOOO good. I saw them live and it blew me away.
Shivers. The unmatched piece of art.
this is dt most beautiful song.im a mysticus and it gives me somehow strength.thank you dt
beautiful song!
beautiful video!
All 3 are awesome
One of the best live songs!
Niklas Sundin is an amazing artist. This video is really creative, it helps paint the picture of what the song is about.
this is the best video i have seen this year, by far
Can't stop listening to this awesomnessss
The best song of dark tranquility for ever
