Found these today. Took two from the troop. Lovely aniseed smell. Going to eat them. First time I have seen them.
We found the most spectacular Prince mushroom yesterday.. it had literally just toppled over with its own weight when we found it, gloriously intact with no pest damage and an impressive 22cm across! We did a good online search to make sure we had the ID right and it was that gorgeous almond smell that confirmed it for us ;)
Found about 30 of them today, near the beach in Italy

Found one almost identical size to yours at the weekend very good eating go well with bacon and eggs as I can testify to.
Found some beautiful young specimens growing in my garden today, along with some edible boletes and even a few blushers!

i think i may of found some of these last week, but i'm unsure, as i found them in a very grassy area and hardly any tree's at all. Do you think they would be in habitats like that?

Now I know it was the prince that I found it was about 16 cm and in perfect condition but I was to scared to eat it...when in doubt...Great video.

I found one that I believe was this same mushroom and I swear to god it was the size of a dinner plate!
I did too last year. The caps meat was over an inch thick!

I have one in Western Australia and the top looks the same but the underside is white. No skirt. They can grow quite large.

I discovered Agaricus Augustus in the last year weird enough on the graveyard in my neighbourhood. He has this weird yellow tint in his meat, so I tried him with a lot of researching and little by little. After all I have integrated him into my set of edible mushrooms, I found the perfect identification in a mushroom book I had from Denmark. Disappointing effect: He is giant, indeed, but in the pan he shrinks to normal size, than he is not giant any more.

How delicate is the skirt? I found some of these under pine with a distinct almond-anaseed seed smell, this smell was so obvious that it was identified by my friend who was not aware that it might be a Prince, or that it should smell of almonds. The rim of the cap had shaggy bits hanging off it rather like the one in the video and the colouration/patterning the of gills and cap also matched, but it had no skirt so I chickened out. It occured to me that it may have been brushed off, but I'm not in the habit of ignoring characteristics to make mushroom fit with what I want it to be.
You are super lucky person to find all these mushrooms .....

Found one looking like this in my garden. But gills were white. What could it be?
Just smelt the ones in my 'fridge and nearly got knocked over by the almond. Lucky to have them growing in my garden. This year I've decided to to try and spread them around by dropping bits of the cap under trees. Is that likely to work?
I've heard of people doing that with other mushrooms like morels. Even blending the mushroom in water and pouring it in areas they want it to grow. It worked!

Yes it will work if it's placed in the right place. I do this with boletes too. I like to put the mushrooms with some water in a blender and turn it into a slurry. Then you can spread it all over if you want. Not guaranteed to always work, but it has for me many times

Weirdly there is a smaller relative (A. Perobscurus) known as 'The Princess' which only grows in the San Francisco bay region!
You know your stuff. Id be scared to pick mushrooms to eat unless i was 100% sure that i knew what it was

Great video! I found a little clutch of mushrooms I think are augustus, but I genuinely can't smell almond or aniseed. They just smell lovely and mushroomy. Is there anything I could be confusing them with?
the princess, Agaricus lanipes is similar. If you are 100% SURE you have an Agaric then also check out the inky mushroom as a toxic lookalike. Remember the toxic ones stain yellow when bruised if thy are fresh.
The amount of Agaricus or 'Agarici' I have found with those bloomin' maggots in!
Agaricus impudicus can have a similar cap pattern as well

Found a large patch of these, picked a few but didn't eat them incase they were inky agaricus. Couldn't really smell the almond to positively identify as the prince...or the inky smell either! I was torn. How strong are these smells?
