- In this episode of the Prospect Spotlight series, our scouts take a half-hour deep dive into the game of a RD with excellent skating, physicality, and rush defending ability: E.J. Emery! First, they introduce the player with his profile, statistical production, and his trifecta of puck skills: shooting, passing, and handling. Next, they shift their attention to his habits, tools, and toolkit, discussing why he is falling down rankings, including their own. Last, they debate Emery's projection at the NHL level from both stylistic and statistical perspectives, before capping off the episode by looking at which NHL teams would be the best fit for him.

EJ Emery. Is my nefews brother. For what I have seen e.j. is a great hockey player. I can see him in the n.h.l. go e.j. Devon and my self are cheering for you.

It seems like you use the term "shut down defenseman" a bit negatively, like that kind of player has limitations. But ideally, wouldn't you want your #1 defenseman to also be a shut down defenseman?

He has all the attributes you can't teach, and what he lacks is for the most part teachable. He won't be the 30th best or most effective player from this draft.
With how good of a combine he had, do you think he will jump higher in the standings? I don’t see him making it to top 15, but do you think being top 10 in multiple categories grabs the eyes of teams?
Edit: one other question. With BF%, do you have any doubts in regards to dickenson being at 3%?
He doesn't have Carter Yakemchuk level handling skill, but he is a better defender than Yakemchuk.
I don’t understand why EJ Emery would be rated so low when his skill set is very similar to Silayev’s.
Usa vs Muskegon he skate well and play good defense L.a. Mooner a good team player to have

Eiserman and emery .. i can’t believe we went defense that isn’t touted the best defender when we have offensive d men that need defensive work. Then we reached for high motor effort low upside forwards lol instead of possibly having 2 top line forwards and the best shut down mobile huge rh defenseman .. You bet on the low ceiling forwards to hit their peak but then bet on the 2nd line floor incredible ceiling forwards to go way below floor..
all while trading up .. i cannot get behind this thought process..
