2024 NHL Prospect Pool Rankings, 32-29: Edmonton, Boston, and Tampa Bay
In this episode, we kick off our 2024 edition of our yearly NHL prospect pool rankings, starting at the bottom, 32, and working our way up, covering the top 5 prospects of 3 teams per episode. First, we start off with the Edmonton Oilers at 32, whose prospect pool is highlighted by the skill of Matthew Savoie, but lacks much notable depth. Next, we cover the Boston Bruins, who have a good young NHLer in Matt Poitras, alongside the toolsy but raw Dean Letourneau. Finally, we wrap up episode 1 of the series with the Tampa Bay Lightning, with Conor Geekie, Ethan Gauthier, and Isaac Howard leading the charge among strong prospects.
Tune back in tomorrow for episode 2, breaking down the prospect pools of the Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, and New York Islanders!
Criteria:
- 22 years of age and under.
- 41 NHL games played and under.

    The feature that determines success of pure goal scorers is what is in their head. With few exceptions the defensive side of the game is important and some players cannot accept this and find ice time declining. The other aspect is a team first attitude. Selfish players are not usually long term successful.

    I always think it’s hard to grade the Wings drafts right after. They’ve made so many picks like Seider, Danielson, Mazur, and ASP that people think are reaches at the time and they end up being REALLY good. I think a lot of people thought Raymond was kind of a reach as well. They’ve all worked out so far.

    McGroarty is not gritty or physical and was barely a ppg player at the wcj while on 1st line and pp1. That's terrible. I'm sure yager will easily beat that this year. Mcgroaty will be a middle 6 player at best in the nhl.

      Lets not get ahead of ourselves. Everyone said that the Sharks lost the Karlsson trade and the Timo trade. In hindsight Sharks handily win those trades. There's a lot of risk and a lot of reward here for SJ and essentially no risk for NSH. At worst they get a late first and a very project-able middle six Center prospect. At best, they get a top 10 pick in a draft with a very good top 10. On the Sharks side they get a goal-tending prospect which speaks for itself. Blackwood and Samsanov were once two of the best goaltending prospects. He could be elite and franchise changing, but there is that huge risk. And again I'm absolutely not ready to write that Vegas 1st off as a late 1st

    Jets could’ve done better? I don’t think you’re realizing the situation Winnipeg was in. He could’ve just stayed at Michigan and not gotten Winnipeg anything before leaving. All general managers knew this, take a look at good sources who explain how well Winnipeg did in this trade. They practically could’ve gotten offers of 2nd round picks, yet they make a deal and get a blue chip prospect right back in return who fits their time line. Colby Barlow has the exact same style yet better shot than McGroarty, having both of them on the wings makes no sense. The jets need centers and top 6 centers for the future and they get one in yager. Very biased analysis to me, just cause one player in one year ahead in development. But we’ll see in years time who really comes out on top.

  • @reign2204
    @reign2204 13 днів тому

    Based off amateur directing and scouting (Jason Bukala) he recently went on the Kenny and Renny podcast and spoke about this trade saying Yager is the more complete player, McGroarty will have more impact from now and a few years, but he mentioned that in 3 years or later Yager in his opinion will be the better player. 2 way guy that plays center, easily in the top 6 for him, on the powerplay and pk. So I gotta disagree with saying McGroarty is the “better” prospect.

    • @Shoofyou10
      @Shoofyou10 12 днів тому

      If you just look at all of the top prospects lists for the major outlets before the trade, all of them had Rutger higher. Now that doesn’t mean that Yager can’t end up being the better player but just going off the lists Rutger is the better prospect.

    • @reign2204
      @reign2204 12 днів тому

      @@Shoofyou10 yes of course, but that’s because he’s 1 year ahead in development, I would even have Rutger ahead. But the end product, Yager has a much higher possibility to be the more effective player meaning playing a higher role on a team.

I suspect he plays better, the better the players around him are. 3. There is no way Edvisson starts on 3rd pairing, that is laughable knowing how bad our D is. I agree with ASP...he may be the best prospect of all and ceiling is unlimited; reminds me of a potential Paul Coffey.

    I think you maybe falling in the same trap as some wings fans and other scouts on MBN, yea he is 200ft, but his shot is elite which could make him a complimentary piece on the first line. And in preseason clips in the SHL he seems to be being a play and line driver so far, now if that keeps going then he should be good.

      @@davideggleston1031 that’s not how tall goalies work…at all. The advantage of being tall comes when being down and moving side to side.

    I remember when last summer all the media pundits were salivating over Buffalo and Ottawa, only for both of them to regress, then to Detroit only miss the playoffs(on a tie breaker) because Philly decided to pull their goalie in regulation, when they knew full well they weren't going to make the playoffs anyways. Now you're saying *Detroit* is the one that's going to regress?

    Thanks for taking the time to discuss the players. I think Simon will quickly work into the top four, I just don't think they have anyone other than Chiarot to push him down any further than the second pair.

    Interesting question for you guys. Lucas Pettersson, Nikita Artamonov or Andrew Basha? Who would you rather have as a prospect?
