I visited UC Santa Barbara and there were close to a hundred spikeball games going on at once, on the beach, the fields, and everywhere. It's like the new volleyball in some places
Good move but still imagine if he would've went for it ppl love the game and spiderman he would've made a lot more money could've been much much more u out spiderman on a toy it sells like hotcakes

The second he said he wanted to market as a sport and not a toy I knew that was a good idea.

It’s pretty much the whole reason it took off as well. The first thing that comes to the mind for most people when they hear “spikeball” is a beach/park sport.
It makes 43 million a year. Mark says now he wished he invested after seeing so many play in beaches all over the world.

Really not his brand though the original creator was a cartoonist and toy maker. Spike ball is very successful now but it was created as a toy and is a toy. No matter how many middle aged men want to say the are pro athletes now playing it.
Spikeball is HUGE in Australia, especially for playing on the beach.

They play this at my Crossfit gym. It is very popular. What a smart guy to pick up an old game and re-establish it and get the legal rights all in order (trademark and utility patent) etc. And, again smart guy as Ruder (the CEO) wanted this thing to be seen as a sport not a toy. This guy is smart and stuck to his guns This guy deserves all his success. He inspires me. This is an easy, not expensive, set up game, that can be taken practically anywhere and played by many.
I've seen this all over the place, it's really cool! I'm glad he's made it huge!
Mark Cuban said this is is greatest regret in the show.

Most important lesson I learned and keep learning on shark tank: it’s not the idea, it’s the execution and sales that matter.
That's very true. And it holds up in lots of places in life. Something to live by.
I am looking for investors in my buttered toast competition. The rules are simple who ever can butter the most toasts in an allotted time, wins. If the bread gets smooshed, you lose a point. Good on them for not doing cheesy liscening deals that devalue their reputation as a serious sport. It obviously has paid off well for them
Good for him, it’s getting popular in Germany too. We played pretty much every day this summer.
I'm surprised he initially accepted Daymond's offer with all the success he already had, at least it shows he wasn't just here for exposure!

@@Dev-In-Denver123 Definitely and Scrubdaddy and the several iterations of it are household brands. They work great and do what they're advertised to do. I prefer the Scrubmommy myself.

I've never played it but if I was at the beach, park, or backyard BBQ...it looks pretty fun.

I couldn’t understand the concept of the game at all.
When you start marketing your product as a toy when it’s age demographic is 18-24 and is marketed as a sport, that’s when your sales start dropping.
My recreation center actually has this. Although, I wish they would purchase Grind.

i mean, sure it|s better to keep it a sport, but the spiderman thing made sense (net = web) and would have made serious bank. kids playing with it as a toy will certainly be better at the actual sport later
I was at a new student college bash today and they had two of these and I had no clue what it was but I kind of guessed the gist of the game because it was a mini volleyball and had the word spike in the name 😂Even though I was playing with one other person it was really fun and decided to look it up and that’s what brought me here 😯
