need to make a stripper plate that will push the plate off the punch. I wouldn't worry about the slug following through the die the next part will push the slug out.
Wow, thanks! I've been meaning to make a 4 year Tormach anniversary video. Thinking about calling it "Tormach 770 eats steal for 4 years". Or something like that. Do you guys have any Tormach 770 stickers? Mine wore off after cleaning it so much.
Your hydraulic press caught my eye. I'll check out your other videos. I have a 20 ton press that I had to upgrade the press pin. I had a guy weld on a 1/2 inch plate to the pin..
Hii.. Can you pls mention the machine you used to fabricate the machining of the punch?.. And if you could also name that process then it would be great!!
@@craigsmachineshop2040 It's possible you have some unintended draft on the die set due to tool deflection while milling. If that's the case it would be in the opposite direction from what was suggested above and could be causing the difficulty with stripping the part from the pin and why the slug stuck just a bit. Thanks for posting the video. I'm in the process of trying to figure this out myself and your video was informative.
@@TandaMadison Thanks, I'll have to measure it. I think is common for it to be difficult to strip which is why die sets usually have stripper springs. Since you mentioned it, I looked into it and found that they sell backdraft endmills. I will have to give one a try.
concave the punch then grind the mid alittle lower sides --- profile of a u then all the force isnt at once. baffles me even with easy mode you didnt make aliening
Hi Craig - we just purchased a 770M, and are located in Tempe. Are you interested in offering an orientation class??? I sent you a PM within Facebook. Best regards - Cory
Sorry, the die clearance is Material Thickness x .2, not 2

Good point, thanks for the tip.
Yay! It's always good to see another video from Craig! Welcome back!

@@craigsmachineshop2040 Since you have always been a great sharing all your projects on UA-cam, we can make sure that happens! Keep an eye out for it.
@@tormachinc Awesome, thanks!
I like the honesty of things going wrong ( as it can) nice video thank you

What would you charge to make punches?
Hey, you're back. Good to see you still at it.
Thanks!

Awesome test Craig! Glad to have you back!
Thanks Marco! How's the plane?

@@EZ_shop - Very cool!
Does anyone know at 4.56 how is the drill doing that?
Check that out! worked like a charm.
Yeah, easier than I thought. Next video should be learning to machine tool steel.
Is that the same methode for making round blank's ore is a diferent tool used?
If it's round it's the same. Square would be a slightly different formula for the tonnage.
wouldn't it be better to drill through both blocks then use a long rod as a punch? seems it would be easier to line up that way.
Uh, this was just a test.
how bout adding some draft or undercut on the pin?
I was wondering if that was a thing. Seams to make sense. Not quite sure of the best way to do that on a mill. Maybe with a threadmill type tool?

Try making tool steel inserts that go into the blocks
Thanks! What's the best way to retain the punch, set screw? If the steel plate holding punches is large, how to use a set screw?
@@craigsmachineshop2040 maybe some roll pins or a press fit
