- So it turns out I was wrong! The most hated class in Dark and Darker is actually the Rogue and I'm about to show you why. Many members of the community have been asking for the Rogue to be nerfed and with good reason! Come check it out!

- well, thanks game. At least it's mostly rogue on rogue violence, I guess.
Ended up in a 15+ lobby with 7 rogues, 1 ranger and 1 warlock (me) today. I miraculously ended up extracting but I really hope that rogue will be reworked. The Stealth mechanic is absolutely atrocious and not fun / engaging at all. Basically when I suspect that a rogue is around I gotta wait ~45 seconds to see if one pops up because their stealth runs out since otherwise I will just die instantly. I understand that nobody owes me a specific playstyle (hate the game, not the player - etc etc) but I feel like I'm not the only one who's been playing the game less lately with (at least mine are like this) lobbies consisting of 75+% rogues and rangers.
Wow ur a cry baby u play a class that 90% of ppl just run at ppl with boc then fantomize immediately after then go back to boc probably the stupidest gameplay ive seen in dark and darker lol i saw 2 warlocks yesterday doing the same thing just running at each other when the guy gets close he just phantomizes and runs and repeats like that for 3m timm they both took blue portal's...
Dude as soon as I played the first playtest, I just knew Rogue would suck so much to play against. Stealth mechanics in games like these are always a horrendous idea.
@@aFoolsMartyr If they want to keep the stealth mechanic I'd make significant changes. For example make the area around the rogue blury (a little bit like the stealth mechanic in starcraft) that way, if you pay attention, you will spot the rogue. It's probably very difficult to find the "right amount of bluriness" but the way that the stealth mechanic is now it literally ruins the game (in my opinion).

skill issue. you can literally one tap a rogue with blow of corruption.
A lot of people saying ranger is meta but then to go into a game and like 70% of the lobby’s are rogues. If you do high roller it’s more like 90%

Rogue definately is very strong right now but you wanna know what's really killing the game?
Anyone with blue or higher gear not going to highroller.
You gotta get pretty damn lucky to get out of caves as a new character to buy a weapon and some gloves just to lose it to a blue/purple (insert class here) running around.
I'd rather have two lobbies. grey-green and blue and above.
That's be much more helpful to get more people started for mid-late game instead of just hurr durr, rogue hit hard.

Fighter also counters ranger, and at this point I think Rogue needs a rework instead of a flat out nerf. Maybe get rid of ambush and buff backstab. Or adding a shimmer to the stealth. Or not allowing stealth in direct light or a certain amount of light, which would then increase the value of torches and lanterns. Right now the issue is the sheer number of rogues because rogue has a such a low risk for a high reward with it's current playstyle. You only need a decent dagger and a high enough level to run the perks to add insane multipliers to the damage. Stacking the numerical modifiers is making the damage too high, too quickly. Like back in the day when a white longbow with triple shot would drop just about anyone. Unfortunately, as soon as Ironmace makes any changes to how things work, their discord starts crying foul-as if that's different than how the discord usually acts lol.

There is such a thing as too much movement speed apparently.
If you didn't know already, a dude named HahnSoloz has a really good and comprehensible guide on how to beat every miniboss, hell-monster, and even every type of skeleton without cheesing them. It's easier than you might think.

Barbarian and Fighter are the rogue counter. Cleric can be outranged easily
Barbarian is the only counter since it has high hp, can’t tell you how many times I’ve been killed with 3 stabs with 50% PDR on fighter by a rogue that comes out of invis literally in my face with ambush and a green kris dagger
Bah, rogue is a noobstomper. The moment you understand it, IN SOLO, you just kite/wait it out of stealth. And unless they come geared, you can survive the ambush in one way or another.

As a rogue player it's really not fun waiting in a corner and just ambush 1-3 tap others. Rogue is a stealth class and I feel like they need better tools to disengage and re-engage at a later time.
I don't think their base damage is op it's all the bonuses from their skills stacked.
Hopefully the devs can fix this without nerfing rogues into the ground and just bring other classes up.
Funnily I've been playing barb a lot more recently and enjoying it.

Imo if they just removed the creeper ability on the rogue he would be way more balanced, I don’t mind the damage he does but the fact that he can move 10 steps wile invisible is absolutely busted and basically has no counter play if the rogue has half decent movement skills

Rogues are so fun and interactive gameplay. They are more stupid than barbarian gameplay, which is designed to be brute force.

Try the light orb spell and cast it ALOT! it's a life saver!
As a solo wizard I literally almost don't play the game anymore. Occasionally maybe playing on rogue when bored to death. The lobbies are either 2 tapping rogue minefields or 1 tapping barbs that can tank 3 fireballs that play barbs just to counter rogues

as a fighter, I still hate rangers more
Rangers and the slow from ranged attacks and the free heals.. and free traps are worse than rogue imo. Only fairly geared rogues with ambush backstab weakpoint really bother me. Nerf ambush backstab and weakpoint and rogue is fixed. Ranger is just fundamentally wrong for the game. This isn't a fps. Watching you killing a bunch of half hp Timmy's isn't going to change my mind.

You kinda proved yourself wrong at 7:20. Rogue just gets melted. Its an all or nothing game with the rogue. You either kill in 2 or 3 hits, or you GTFO. You used to be able to do that without ambush and hide, cause hand crossbow and double jump opened up new playstyles besides "camp and strike from the shadows". I used to never run ambush and hide. I really liked being a highly mobile frontline rogue. But rogue has been nerfed (directly and indirectly) over and over to the point where invis is its only effective counter against anything ranged and anything above 15 strength. Ambush and hide being overused is a byproduct of the other classes also being unbalanced. A rogue can't take a "fair" fight against a ranger of equal skill, nor can it with many other tankier classes such as cleric or barb (although recent barb nerfs are steps in the right direction as well as the fighter nerfs from previous). Nerfing invis and ambush (without replacing or buffing other aspects of the character) would leave rogue in a very weak place.
Another overlooked aspect is that rogue is pretty gear dependent. You can't "half-ass" a rogue kit. You either run full blue/purple armor with strength, or nothing and lightfoot boots with a green/blue weapon, because anything above that but below a god kit is diminishing returns. Overall, I agree that rogue is too annoying rn, but calling for nerfs without addressing the other characters in the game will leave it in the dust.

MAson... your killing greys.... its not hard to do with any class, rogue aside. its perfectly fair and balanced. stop hating on rogues when a ranger sitting in a dark corner letting you clear a whole room and secure a portal for yourself and then one shots you with a body shot from across the map with no warning or counter play and reaps all your hard work is much more blatantly toxic and unhealthy than a rogue who has 2 hp who has to put himself at risk every time he breaks stealth to engage someone and has to pick his fights. Half the class's in the game counter you... Try this in highroller lobbies or post 15 and it wont go so hot. You'll die to the majority of engages you take thinking rogue is OP. Rogue has a higher skill cap then most character class's and is rewarded for it with the abilities it has. if you fuck up once on rogue your dead. no built in sustain , limited range options, and extremely squishy. The class is fine as is and if anything some of the nerfs need to be rolled back or reworked. what kinda buff utilizing class starts off with a -30% buff duration. your bread and butter skill "hide" starts off with 30% less time in invis in grey gear and you spend your first few purchases mitigating that penalty. you literally start behind the starting line from everyone as this class and are useless pre lvl 15. Not to mention your only ranged option is now locked behind a perk slot...unlike literally every other class in the game....Rogue has been basically removed from the game via these endless nerfs due to idiots who dont know how to check for invis players complaining ceaselessly and who dont understand game emchanics and how the class functions.

You're joking. Ranger is great, but if you can't aim it sucks huge balls. Rogue just camps and then 2shots everything.
the reason why rogue is strong is because he can do double damage on his first swing. this doubles the benefit you get from having better gear making him scale way better with higher gear than other classes. especially since you can double that again by using the castillon dagger which doubles your damage on the 3rd swing in the combo. add on to the fact that he has the most move speed out of all the classes allowing him to easily catch up to you or run away and play distance or bait corners

@@ectsy For starters, every class's starter kit is garbage. Ambush's damage bonus procs even when you get pulled out of stealth by getting hit. A blue or green dagger is nothing on the market. But let me ask you this: At any point in the previous playtests have the lobbies been so full of a single class? No. A highly disproportionate percentage of the active playerbase is playing rogue, or not playing because of the amount of rogues. I wish Ironmace would release the numbers of average hours played by class, because there are so many lobbies that are almost all rogues. Hell, even with a grey or white dagger, if you can proc ambush and get the drop on someone, there no counter play. That is the issue right now. There are too many rogues and not enough of another class. My evidence is purely anecdotal until such a point in time that IM releases those numbers, but you can see for yourself the number of rogues in every pre-raid lobby. Doesn't 80% of a single class being played stand out to you out of how many possible classes? Even at ranger's worst, which I would say was probably the second alpha, the active playerbase was never slanted so hard towards a single class. Barbarian's meta wasn't this bad. Wizards were never close to being this bad. Even just a few weeks ago when Bard was statistically broken far more than Rogue ever was, there were never as many bards as there are rogues. But go ahead and say there isn't a problem. Maybe your servers aren't filled to the brim with rogues, but mine are on both US East and US West. It makes the game boring to play, in my own opinion, to see nothing but a single class every raid.
