We may be small and culturally insignificant, but we were the first of the 13 colonies to set up an independent government. Live free or die indeed. (Also our property tax is incredibly high to make up for the lack of income and general sales tax)

I live in Texas. The original name was Tejas, which is Spanish for Friendship. I think it's because during Texas Independence, the Mexicans that lived in Texas united with the Americans to fight against the Mexican government. Now, the state motto might as well be "Everything's Bigger in Texas"
