The Rods were weak on the 14-15 models and they would break and take out many parts with them. The newer models have been updated and the issue does not seem as bad. However, most builders prefer to use a higher end rod for a race engine.
I build drift cars and time attack cars for a living. You guys are at major risk of valve float if you're using OEM valve springs. ANY time you're running a higher lift and duration camshaft, a stiffer valve spring is essential. Especially on a single cylinder 14,500 rpm dohc engine.

Sure-- On a YZ250 2 Stroke the clutch is strong and good-- With the 250F model in stock form the clutch is ok-- If modified to make more power the clutch will not hold up --- Any motor builder is aware of this as you can actually see it slip on the Dyno.

Nolan 320 they used a softer metal in the 15's-16's they adressed the issue in the 17' and 18 modles essentially they put some nickel in it to make it a more solid metal to hold up to heat

The bikes and Jay are totally awesome, but without having the friends that you have, or being able to walk into RMATVMC with a shopping cart and bottomless bank account, I can never afford these builds. Watching these videos show me, I need a new career and new friends. 😔😁 Also, Dont buy a 15 yz250f without having a extra $500-$1500 on top of the price incase the motor and clutch blows up, thanks for the warning. 👍
Sorry for the late response -- -No the 16-17 seem to be way better on the rod issues. However, most top builders will still want to swap the rod for a full mod motor.

Engine rebuild can be 500-1500 depending on how much your doing.
