Great video, many thanks. I was replacing some rear brake pads on my Toyota avensis, when suddenly my bleeder screw got stuck so bad, my spanner took the edges off... bummer. So now purchasing new Caliper. What helped me was seeing you unscrew the bolt to the hose, as I wasn’t sure how that and the small metal tube was assembled and possibly beyond my DIY experience. Now I know what to expect, you’ve made it really easy for me. Once again many thanks. Excellent quality video and narration 👍🏼🙂
+tawfeeq muhammad yes that would be ideal. However from my diagnostics the rotor only warped when hot, on the highway it vibrates. When cool, the car and brakes drives smooth.
Usually when someone says “Ahh, piss on it” it means they are not going to do the job. For you, that means making a video while doing it. BTW.... Your brother is really not going to want his toothbrush back now.
+mrsemifixit the rubber piece is there to reduce noise which is typically on the trailing end If the caliper hole isn't bored to the right size it may be difficult to insert into the wrong hole, but I don't see the difference in operation
+thisisnalin well there's electronics...like Canbus programming that I'd really like to learn about, and now a days that's a big thing with modern cars.
You can crack the banjo bolt to bleed the other side when the bleeder gets stuck. It's not as pretty and you'll have to hit it with a little brake cleaner after, but it works fine.
After that much heat, there's a chance of wheel bearing damaged/lost bearing grease. Is there a chance to inspect it other than waiting for the bearing noise/whine?
Why are there 2 crush washers? I took my old caliper off and found the two washers on the mat beneath the wheel but not knowing exactly where they came from. One between the caliper and the bolt, and the other one..?? I assume it must go between the bolt and the brake line but you didn't show it in the vid. I'll keep looking.
I'll say this. Most of the time you won't really know it is a bad caliper until you go through 2 sets of pads very quickly. I noticed the first time that the pads wore quickly, but the piston went back in very easily with a pair of channel locks. Mind you, you don't squeeze the rear pistons into place. You actually turn them and they screw back into place. Mine, did just that, went back into place, but wore another set of pads out within a couple months. This last time though it looked as if the piston was about to totally extend out of the caliper. Looked like the rubber boot was the only thing holding it in. Boot was totally stretched to the max. In other words when the pressure is released from the pedal, the piston is not relaxing to release the brake.
What’s the function of the rubber band on the top caliper guide pin? When I’d done front brake replacement for my truck I noticed the groove where the rubber band goes in but there wasn’t any rubber. Apparently, the mechaic that did a brake job in the past had removed the old one but didn’t replace it.
My brake pads and rotors are new and i keep hearing a grinding noise when braking. Mechanic said is the back caliper that is getting stuck to the rotors. Could that be the problem???
LOL YO , Quick question If i was changing out my front Brake pads, hoses.callipers, rotors would I have to bleed all 4 brakes OR can I get away wit just bleeding the fronts? I cant afford at this time to do my rears and was gunna do them 2 weeks from now
if one of the dual piston is slightly less compressed than the other one maybe by like 5-6mm, but was able to slide it in the bracket okay, will both piston make even contact once i pump my brakes during normal use
NEVER use anti seize on the caliper bracket knuckle bolts. From the factory, LOCTITE is used (examine the threads) and are torqued >140 lb ft due to all the vibration of the suspension.
speedkar you need to crack open a rear disk brake calipper with hand brake system on it to see what is inside that you need to rotate and compress the piston in order to can get it in
As an alternative to green Permatex caliber grease, check out Super Lube Silicone brake grease. You can order a large tube from Home Depot's web side in Canada. I have a tube. It's works fine, no problems now after using it three times. It's silicone grease with PTFE. I've never seen a review. You could be the first.
When i was young i bought cheap cars and changed a few calipers and likely wasted money by replacing them. One can to save money just remove the outer rubber gasket, spray corrosion remover around the brake piston, let it stand a long time to loosen corrosion, then (perhaps start the car for brake servo and) press the brake pedal hard several times until the brake piston falls out by itself. And then one can buy a rebuild rubber set for the caliper and use a drill and a brake honer set to hone up the brake cylinder to get get oxidation and dirt out of there and get smooth cylinder walls again, this can also be done cheap and slow with very fine sandpaper to save money. Clean the brake cylinder and piston from sandpaper dust or perhaps buy a new piston it its that bad.. but just use some fine sandpaper on it and its good to go i bet. Replace the inside piston rubber ring gasket with a new one in the cylinder, and put things together and put on the water preventing rubber ring finally. Here is the way to do this, its shown with a smaller drum brake cylinder but the honer can be adjusted to fit your caliper too. Unless its _really_ stuck this is the way to do it cheap. ua-cam.com/video/qzioBB7KZXU/v-deo.html You could try to give the brake piston a few whacks if this is not working. And you could use a gas station many ton hydraulic press to move the piston some to loosen it up before you give the caliper up totally. Another way that comes to mind is to empty the caliper for brake fluid, heat the brake piston with a blow torch, and cool it down a few times with water, this will also help loose up the corrotion, heat will enlarge any metal and when the piston gets cool it will crack the corrotion so it might be able to be pressed out with the brake pedal. Same here. That is really funny

Honda civic 96' ima do IT myself 💯 tryed change breakpads and found the piston of the calipper completely stuck...
So is that brown stuff on the rotor... rust, or is it from your brother’s underwear?
+Sir Sweetness rust that forms after peeing. Haha!
LMAO
I usually use a digital temp reader, but your method works too!
+Gene Fever that's a good idea, you can compare wheel temps to isolate which wheel is seizing
Yup we use one at buddys shop to check wheels temps, works well. Crappy Tire has one on sale this week $30, regular $99. Do it.
+Gene Fever I've seen it on sale for a bit cheaper from CT, but I don't really need it to be honest. My "method" works too 😃

shouldn't you replace the rotor to because the heat caused by friction from the seized caliper would have caused warpage on the rotor?

@@speedkar99 but that's a part considered wear and tear

Did the wheel bearing burn up from the heat?
Kkkkkk nice and easy, I like your presentation too .

+SeungJoon Hyun glad it helped!
After that much heat, there's a chance of wheel bearing damaged/lost bearing grease. Is there a chance to inspect it other than waiting for the bearing noise/whine?
All you can really check for is play and vibration with the vehicle raised and noise when in drive.
+pancakewsx check for play by tugging on the wheel
pancakewsx A lot of Toyotas have rear wheel hub assemblies that just unbolt from the knuckle. So, wait until it gets noisy and then change it
Did you only use one crush washer, and aren't you supposed to use both? Does it make a difference?
Yea I missed that one. As long as no leaks it's fine
Well done brother well done 👍🏼
Very informative and funny...
What's so funny? The diagnosis is legit
Absolutely loved this video good one bro
Is that Permatex green brake grease urea resistant?
Why are there 2 crush washers? I took my old caliper off and found the two washers on the mat beneath the wheel but not knowing exactly where they came from. One between the caliper and the bolt, and the other one..?? I assume it must go between the bolt and the brake line but you didn't show it in the vid. I'll keep looking.
I thought you're supposed to use 2 crush washers and sandwich the line with it?
+Sid I actually thought about that after, while editing this video. Car didn't come with two crush washers though, just the one.
I was bleeding my break. When I press brakes pedal, I can see fluid come out from bleeding vavle. Does it mean my caliper is working fine, not frozen?
Bleeding the brakes have nothing to do with a stuck piston in your caliper.
I'll say this. Most of the time you won't really know it is a bad caliper until you go through 2 sets of pads very quickly.
