I'm currently training for the Goruck Bragg Heavy on 3/17/23. Going on 58 years old and still chasing a better version of myself, "Gritty Soldier" has been a good source. Thanks!
I've been letting myself go for the last couple years, mainly due to work and excuses I keep making. I stumbled upon your channel by accident and liking it so far, thank you for all the contents and information you're giving it out for free, they mean a lot to people like me. It's time to get in shape again, selection is on the horizon, no more excuses.
11:20 for free feet pics. Also, training for the west point half marathon on March 20, so thanks for the tips. I am hitting my wall at 10 miles, but it's fun to push through and I'm definitely getting that runner's high that you're talking about. I think it would also be interesting to see how you manage both lifting/running schedules and how you are able to work both of those into your workout regimen.
Edit/Update: made it through to the end, best advice anyone ever gave me was "you don't always have to be first, but never be last." I grad tomorrow after our 12mi. Aaslt. I start day 0 of AASLT school tomorrow, I'm definitely nervous but not sure why. Physically I'm where I need to be, I guess its the meticulous and anal layout I'm worried about. For some reason seeing this vid and hearing your encouragement is helping me lots.
The Mountain Man Memorial March is great! Definitely try to do this at least one time. This will be my 3rd year this year, the scenery is beautiful and it’s a great experience.
You are my inspiration Dan. I always thought I can never get better at running because of my flat feet. But YOU said you have flat feet. And because of this, I am drawing motivation to make progress. Thanks Dan.
Just discovered your videos and they’re great! Really appreciate the insights. I messed my knee up and had to get surgery back in 2009 (a week before I was supposed to go to Robin Sage) and it’s been a nagging injury every since. My knee screams at me every time I run, but I’m really trying to get back into running and rucking more so I can drop a warrant packet and feel confident that it won’t betray me again. My run time has become atrocious at this point, but I think I just need to stop babying it and start getting after it. Thanks for the motivating and informative videos!
Hearing you talk about how you were as a kid gives me hope for myself Cause that's me right now Granted I don't smoke But I want to get fit I have dreams and ideal outcomes I want. And hearing that you made it gives me hope that I can too.
my goal for the next month is to be able to do a 15 mile ruck and not be dying after, I am getting ready to ship out to MEPS with an option 40 and I really really want to be able to do rasp with flying colors... If I can beat the voice in my head that tells me I can't run any further than I can do anything. One foot in front of the other.
So appreciate your videos and all of the important information you share. I am recovering from two heart attacks in December. You are providing the positive motivation I need to get back to normal. I understand I will most likely not reach your goals, but I will do the very best I can.
I suppose to sum it up in this forum, my goals for an ordinary person like myself is to continue to increase optimum health for extraordinary results in all aspects of my life. Appreciate the advice you share here!
Hi sir, any eating tips to maintain weight and muscle like you while running faster? I want to be the best man I can be, strong and fast like you. I was underweight so I gained 35 pounds since last year when I gave up cross country and track. Thanks for your videos they’re very informative and inspiring hooah🇺🇸🇲🇽
Combine strength training and running. You’ll need to be taking in way more calories than you’re probably used to. Find a macro calculator (online for free) and plug in an estimate of your activity level. And then use the calculation to give you an idea on what your calories should look like. That’s a good place to start 👍
I love your videos! I was a paratrooper infantryman with 1/509th Geronimo from 2009-2013. Anyways I was very active back then. As of today, I am firefighter and EMTB with Gallup Fire Department. This year I want to make a comeback with my physical fitness. I signed up for CrossFit Open 22 and I am super nervous. My goal this year is to get involved into more competitive activities as well as getting more physically active. I.E. running, strength and endurance.
Really wanna get that 13 minute 2 mile. But struggling with form and I have no idea how that form would look like. By the way excited for the Gritty Platoon!
Your man watch this video real quick I talk a little bit about form here and there’s probably some good tips and I’ll help you out: ua-cam.com/video/soJVu-qzYj8/v-deo.html
I wasn’t sure but I saw you working out at Hercules gym few weeks ago, I wanted to approach you Sir I’m a really big fan, your tips been helping me with running, rucking and packing. Thank you and keep doing great work.
I just recently got into running, especially "endurance". So my goals are small. One or two 5k, a 10k, and by the end of the year a half. Then in 18 months my first full marathon.
just enlisted for the army going ranger, I am finally starting to workout everyday after putting it off for about a year. Just started watching your videos and tried some of your tips out and already am seeing an improvement in not only my scores but also I want to workout every morning instead of dreading it. :) cant wait to join the army, I will be a ranger
Do you write down talking points you want to hit or do you just walk around your yard as ideas come to you? You're giving some quality advice and it comes off very casually! And yes, real runners have calluses
Totally transparency, I usually just wing it. I like to stay as genuine as possible. 👍 I’m definitely not perfect, so I definitely don’t try to pretend to be 😂 But yea man calluses is what you need! 👊
I’m here for advice on how to train for running and cardio. I recently got into lifting but I need some more cardio options. I mainly walk and occasionally jump rope.
Hey love your videos I find them very encouraging.. I'm going to be leaving for basic next month I've been working on pretty much all the PT stuff but I feel like running is what I need to focus on I'm also 34 so I got that going for me lol
I like how running is a healthy addiction until you hurt your legs 3 weeks before a competition (AJROTC) and now I don't know how long I got to wait until I can run again 😭
For me, my goal is to cross train into TACP. I’ve been a 2T2 in the USAF for too long (3 years now) and I want something else and something that will challenge me.
I’m trying to get that 12 mile ruck in 15 min pace, currently on week 6 (13 week program) for the second time Bc I had an Achilles injury and had to take a week off.
Great video. My goal is right now still getting in a faster mile time as well as 2 mile. Long term is still trying to get in the Army waiting for recruiter and waivers to aligned and hope to get in with an option 40. So also getting to the 5 mile time under the 7:20 an mile pace is my goal.
Sir, Appreciate you making these videos keep them coming! If I may request a video you describing on how to go about ranger school opords. This is what I am weakest in even though I’m expected not to be as an officer. This is my biggest concern entering ranger school this spring
I wish I could run on my own during pt hours. Doing everything as a group is frustrating when you’re trying to get better. And it’s hard to find the time outside of work.
Yeah I get that but just take what you can from it and fill in the gaps on your own. There will be times in your career when you’ll get to do PT on your own if you stay in. 👍
Personally Im not much of a runner in general. But Im already pretty solid. But what Im looking for in specific is just running longer. How do I improve that?
wow so inspiring to hear about your origin story sir! There are times where I've felt low such as failing land nav and being last on a ruckmarch. This video was amazing still hope to try your running program soon! Looks like the army is going back to apft instead of acft what do you think about that sir? you motivate the hell out of us if you do race your supporters will be happy to join too!
I haven’t heard anything official about that in the army can be a very stubborn beast, so I wouldn’t count your chickens Until they hatch as far as the APFT coming back. But I wouldn’t mind it, I think the AC FT is a good test, but it’s just really hard to implement army wide and causes a lot of unnecessary heartache in my opinion.
Currently planning on joining this summer! Sadly I’m having problems on rehabbing from a stress fracture and getting my running up is hard to do with constant shin pain… any advise on how to over come this ?
You’re going to want to be stretching out your calves religiously, and just take it slow as you ease back into your running, make sure that your form is very good and that you are limiting your impact as much as possible, so make sure you’re running on trails or on the treadmill mostly. Also to get good cardio in and go easy on your shins you should be doing some work on the elliptical, a stationary bike, and even in the pool. That should help you get your cardio back up while you’re healing
Well I’ll default to saying the really depends on your goals. BUT, I’ve noticed that the two seem to go hand in hand. When you are training for speed, more distance usually goes with that, whereas for distance training you don’t REALLY need to worry about speed. But for me, I want to work on both, finding a good competitive balance of both. 👍
I need your advice.Building up for EIB and my cardio sucks. Recently changed over the workout style to more of a cross fit style workouts but i haven’t seen any progress with my running. What are some of the workout regiments to reduce time and work up to a 4 miler at or about 730 pace in under 4 months ?
Lol i think i put my goals in last video but its a sub 5 mile and a 2:10 800, mid term would be join the 75th ranger regiment but didn’t get an option 40 so we’ll see, but im gonna try my ass off if i get the option
Any recommendations to avoid shin splints? I started to run more in the last months (at least 3 times a week) but this last week I haven’t done any run because of this injury.
Hey I came across this video and what’s your advice for someone like me who is 235lbs at 5’9 and looking to beating the 2 mile run and I run right now a 10:45 pace. Also any advice on losing weight for army standards
It depends on my main goal at the time, if I’m strength focused, I do cardio before strength, and vice-versa if I’m running focused. I won’t lie to you man, sometimes I spend 3 hrs working out. Sometimes even more. Just gotta find time when you can I guess
I’ve been running on and off for about a year being pretty inconsistent with it, I have the right running shoes and the proper support but every time I do run I get hurt in some sort of way like shin splints, ankle pain, and knee pain and end up not being able to run for a week. And it’s not like I’m going fast or long distance, I can only manage to do around 1 mile in 13 minutes or so and after I’m winded. I know I need to increase my endurance and speed but I’m struggling to know how. Have you gotten any injuries when you first started out running and if so how did you deal with them?
You’ll have to work through things like shins splints and ankle/knee pain if your just starting out or getting back into things. These things happen and you’ll just need to really focus on good recovery, and when everything is healed get back out there!
You said you have kids, are you married? Just trying to figure out how the hell you do all. Nevermind, you answered the married question later in the video. Impressive man.
