Sewing ,even at a fairly basic level, is very empowering ----for all the inspiring reasons you mentioned. I was nodding all the way through.😊 Thank you, Tara.🌷
My greatest pleasure in sewing is visualizing a fabric/pattern pairing and learning couture techniques such that the garment is beautiful inside and out. 🌻🍄
Forgot to add... when you say that sewing our own clothes is great. Yes it is. I can't find anything I like or that fits me in stores (or extremely rarely) and when I find it, I just collapse when I see the price. See, I had a double mastectomy and finding clothes for very very flat breast is not obvious. So I learned how to modify my patterns to fit my now ironing board style chest and nothing is more uplifting my moral than when somebody tells me that I look great in my clothes. I wish that to everybody as it is ultra pleasant.
Yes sister!!! You summed up, much more eloquently than I can, why we need to sew and be creative! This will be shared with those who keep telling me they can't! Also, being a curvalicious woman, I can customized everything I sew to fit my body perfectly. It's empowering! xx
Wonderful reasons! I'm wanting to make the GIANT investment in a new Bernina to join my very fine antique singers so I too can stitch up some magical new frocks!!!
I've had an unintended break from sewing and this is just what i need to help remind me how much I love it! At the moment i"m gathering inspiration for Springish makes. I just need to work out how to create more physical room for sewing so that it's easier for me to get on with it!
I’m a lapsed sewist, I can sew, not especially brilliantly and I really enjoy it but haven’t sewed in a good while. I meant to start again last year and kept putting it off. It was nice to watch this and remind myself of good reasons to try and start again.
Hi Tara, I'm a recent follower, loving your content! I have a question, I'm new to your community so apologies if this has been asked/answered a lot. Ok, I did sewing at school and even with that exposure, I always thought as sewing as a repair skill, rather than a creative one (replacing a button or zipper, etc). Is there anything as a starter I should focus on, such as a handkerchief, for an outfit, rather than a part of the outfit?
Hello! It's so lovely to have you here and how exciting to be at the start of your sewing journey! I think any simple project that gets you practicing seams and seam finishing is excellent so your idea about a handkerchief is perfect. How about a simple tote bag that you can wear with your outfits? It's a straightforward project but there are lots of beginner friendly skills to get your teeth into and plenty of free resources to help you on your way! Happy sewing!
Trying the 15 min sewing focus ❤ as life has just got in the way 😊

Could you please expand on proportion in sewing and how to play with it? What should we be looking at/for?
