Haha! That was awesome! “Gigondas! Close enough, I’m out!” I’d say he nailed it pretty much. GSM from Southern Rhône, solid call.

Les Pallieres from the Brunier Family is an exceptional wine and a great ode to the Southern Rhône!

My favorite so far. That wine sounded pretty closed for what it was....love your response!!

Nice! I was thinking Gigondas or Cote du rhone village as well, CNDP would have been more savoury and earthy but also overly rough in tannin at that young. Very good guess by Jeff.

Did he call it 2012? How is this wine purple? It's turning garnet. With no descriptor of dried/baked red fruit, it's hard to go to S. Rhone. Pretty sure this has 14abv, that's not M+ alc... Plus with 2012 vintage, by now you should get some animal tertiary. Although he got close by calling CDP(full body, high alc, baked red fruits), the descriptors are terrible!

funny how some sommeliers can be good as descriptors but bad at tasting ... or good at tasting but bad at descriptors (looks to be the case here) just goes to show that using the right words to a describe a wine doesn't equal having the ability to correctly identify it!

@@cha1nreact1on Good point! I've found that some people are great instinctive tasters, but they won't be able to draw logical conclusions from a good tasting note. On the other hand, some can have very good conclusion based on tasting notes, but are terrible at writing proper tasting notes!

I went to the right place from his tasting notes, even went to Gigondas instead of CNDP myself due to lower body and alcohol. I think his descriptors were quite good. Red berries and dried herbs honestly how do you not go to Southern Rhone? Also you can't judge irl color based on what you see on video.
