    Disc bulges and herniations are one of the worst things and can bring a grown man to tears.
    Not even because of the pain as such. Mainly because you realise how screwed you are with a bad bad. It restricts you to the point of extreme vulnerability. I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy and it makes severe tooth ache feel like a breeze.

      Hello, I’ve been dealing with the exact same L5S1 pain for over 1 and a half years now. I have been doing pt for a while and nothing seems to help. May I ask what you did to help your disk bulge during those 3 months ?

      @@christiankleinekorte3929 I'm not op, but I'm in a similar boat. Been dealing with S5L1 bulge since a year and 3 months and things went from a twinge to hell to mild pain now.
      First, do not sit down. Either stand or lie down. Depending on your job, this may be hard to do but it is possibly the most effective thing you can do.
      Next, work with a physiotherapist. Ideally someone who knows about McGill as well as McKenzie. I did a lot of self help that made things worse because I was doing too many things too fast. Going to a physiotherapist helped slow me down and also calm my anxiety because all I had to do was follow orders.
      You'll get through this. Don't lose hope and stay calm.

      @@christiankleinekorte3929 I wouldn't act as a doctor but I do some lying on belly exercises under 10 minutes for strenghtening the lower back with no pause daily. Also don't put legs on the table, pay attention to your posture during entire day, especially sleep since you do that for 8 hours daily. It's mostly about strenghtening abs and legs to cure the lower back pain. Still doing legs and abs every second day. Make sure ab exercises are not making back pain worse. ALso you need to properly squat when reaching something, never bending your back in inappropriate position.. You should talk to a specialist instead of listening my advice cuz everyone is different tho,.

    I've been dealing with this for 2 years. I tried the pull technique and rounding my back but it doesn't trigger pain. However, I still suffer from the sciatic pain when I walk, go up stairs, run, sitting for extended periods, even just adjusting my posture to a straighter position will agitate the pain. In the beginning it was very bad that I couldn't bend over and needed assistance and whatnot. However I'm at this weird point where it's not as bad as before, I can do stuff, but the pain is always still there.

    When comes to spine you seem to deviate from your usual methods. Instead of strengthening the movement, or surrounding muscles you advocate to avoid this type of movements. What happens when I don't remember to pick something up like this ? Shouldn't our spines be ready to bend in this types of positions ?

      When you don't remember to not load your bent spine, the collagen fibers around the disc take a bit more beating. Over time, it adds up.
      You cannot strengthen this anatomy any more than you can become bullet proof by shooting yourself with small caliber bullets over time. That's really how it is. The human body sucks and has many shortcomings. This is one of those.

      @@ChasmChaos You can pay to have papers published, and there are plenty of low-quality papers. Especially in this field. The point is that video's like this one contribute to a society-wide fear of certain movements (like loaded spinal flexion). It promotes the idea that if you have pain, it's usually because you moved "incorrectly" which is over simplified at best, but probably just plain wrong. Pain is complicated, does not always come from injury, and often gets worse when we are hyperaware of it, and needlessly worried by it.

    So what if it reversed, pain in the neutral position and nothing when you roll the back?

    I don’t have worsening or pain even when I’m around my back and pool and I see the position but I have parastesia down my leg and I do have a positive small disc bulge on my MRI
    It’s been going on for over nine months now and it comes and goes throughout the day
    I can’t figure out how to get it to heal

    What if there’s pain on both when neutral and when rounded back but the neutral back hurts a lot more. 5/10 vs 1/10 pain

      @DJP Oh yeah, no doubt. Ben Patrick is one big advocate of J. Curls for back pain. I've heard both sides' arguments, and I tend to agree with Aaron's input better. But hey, whatever works better for one, right?!

    • @guilhermesoares7857
      @guilhermesoares7857 Рік тому

      @jumbo I recommend you to watch Ben Patrick's videos . Rehab work doesn't require you to train close to failure . You say that you have a severe herniated disc, yet you treated your rehab work as hypertrophic work and probably didn't work through the regressions of the exercise, slowly , without discomfort/pain. You shouldn't push to ranges of motion that you are not prepared, as you mentioned, sometimes that was the cause of the injury. Take your time instead, and gradually you will be able to achieve more. Ben Patrick's knee injury recovery and crazy improvement, and so many viewers similar stories give a pretty good case to this methodology.

  • @ivanorozco4274
    @ivanorozco4274 Рік тому +3

    Info's good but the title in click bait. Once a disk bulges there's no fixing it, rather avoiding to make it worse, which unfortunately most times means no more squats

    • @Andrew-cm5tc
      @Andrew-cm5tc 5 місяців тому +1

      you can do squats just probably not with weights. I have two disc bulges and the spine doctor said to focus on core exercises, especially squats and roman chair. You have to have perfect posture though.

      @@Andrew-cm5tc right, and the focus on the form's perfection needs to increase as weight is added, otherwise the risk of following a Ronnie Coleman kind of path is quite possible

    • @Andrew-cm5tc
      @Andrew-cm5tc 5 місяців тому +1

      Honestly, I think it’s just not worth the risk. I’ve thrown my back out more times than I remember. Last time was either october or early november and it still hurts and feels like life will never be the same. Back problems are a downward spiral like you mentioned. Quality of life is what’s most important. If you want to go to the gym then you can still go but you’ll have to make some changes before back pain cripples you. Don’t try to tough it out and push through the back pain. Listen to your body.

      @@Andrew-cm5tcNo. i had a herniated disk and it was healed in 2 years. Went back to the gym and within 6 weeks it got herniated again. I will never do squats again. There’s so many other exercises and people just want a nice body

    • @Andrew-cm5tc
      @Andrew-cm5tc 19 днів тому

      @@jd0879 I do squats with no weights and perfect form as part of my physical therapy routine. I've seen lots of people comment on the internet that they messed up their back from either squats with heavy weights or deadlifts. Ronnie Coleman was a famous body builder and it back is totally jacked up and has had multiple surgeries. I agree that it's not worth the risk. Swimming is probably the best exercise in my opinion. I've also heard it can take as long as 2 years for symptoms to go away. I've messed up my back lots of times before but this time is by far the worst. This november will be one year since I had my MRI and the sciatica is just now starting to calm down (fingers crossed). I still have sciatica but it hasn't kept me up at night lately. It took me six months just to sit. I'm hoping it continues to get better over the next year. I never want to be in this state again. I've had to give up a lot but nothing is worth being in that much pain again.
