    It's annoying that supplements can be marketed to do anything other than deal with deficiency

    • @jasoninflagstaff
      @jasoninflagstaff 8 місяців тому

      Bc deficiency is a defined, and provable medical condition. They can't advertise that without their products being subject fda standards for medicine,which they don't want, bc the supplements aren't medical as presented. Far more $ to be made in from simpletons trying to "cure" untreatable and/or nonexistent "conditions", than selling legitimate vitamins to the very few people who actually need it. I have a vitamin d deficiency,for example,& have to take it as PRESCRIBED. most of the people just taking vitamin d "supplements",for any number of nonsensical reasons, don't have medically significant deficiency & are literally pissing their $ away

    Actually Omega 3 EPA fatty acids supplements have helped with my depression a lot more than all the SSRIs I've taken in the past, they are helping me to get off fluoxetine right now. I was taking 60mg of fluoxetine for almost 4 years, right now I'm only taking 35mg, it's been a long way but I hope to get off fluoxetine completely someday in the future.

    • @AlvaroFierroGodTank
      @AlvaroFierroGodTank Рік тому

      @@pointcrowscreepyuncle Believe me, I was a whole lot more hopeful about SSRIs curing my depression, because I had read a lot about them in the past and really thought they were really promising. I was specially hopeful about Escitalopram, but then I had a prescription for it with my psychriatrist and I waited, but to my great dissapointment it made no difference. I was devastated at that point cause I didn't see any hope outside it.
      Over time after trying with other antidepressants (paroxetine, venlafaxine, bupropion, and others )with my psychiatrist throughout at least two years, finally I had to stick to fluoxetine because there wasn't any good options left for me.
      A year and a half ago I started taking EPA Omega 3 fatty acids in a lower dose than I'm taking right now due to my girlfriend's recommendation, I noticed a little improvement in my mood after probably two weeks, but I was skeptical as well, I thought it was maybe just a weird coincidence. After sometime she bought me another bottle of it and told me to take a higher dose so I did. After that I noticed a further improvement in my mood that didn't disappear in the following weeks, at that point I was certain that it WAS working. Before that I tried a lot of different things to fight my deppresion but none of them worked.
      I am not an easily influenced person, not at all, my girlfriend had complained about it in the past. And I love science too, so I think I'm the worst candidate for the placebo effect in this case.

    • @mp5249
      @mp5249 Рік тому +3

      Slow and you'll get there. Since the beginning of SSRI use, a 12 week exercise plan vs. ANY SSRI in clinical trials was ALWAYS BETTER than pharmaceuticals. Always. Remove seed oils from your diet and your mood changes drastically. Keto or carnivore diet. I can't emphasize this enough.

Just give a diabetic (mellitus) or a fat person pills of "moringa" 15 minutes earlier before breakfast and lunch and I can assure you they will talk wonders. Unfortunately this only last one month, why ? I don't know, I don't have a lab, but there are other things that will help you for longer periods of time, like magnesium.

    Cosmetics do the SAME THING! Like, there's so many ingredients that get way too much coverage on the labels and they don't do nearly as much as it seems like they should based on labeling. Things like royal jelly, silk peptide complex, various oils. These things don't penetrate into your skin and, at best, function to hold other things against your skin or emulsify them to aid in smooth application. I feel like I have to be an active ingredient detective when I buy skin and hair care products so I'm not wasting money on buzzwords. Like, give me a product with the handful of actually useful ingredients that I want. I don't need all of this fluff and bullshit. I want the vitamins and minerals that I know actually do something when applied topically and I want some acids that I know actually do something when applied topically, and then I want a humectant, a thickener, and an emulsifier (sometimes all-in-one if the company manages to score a good price on mixed molecular weight hyaluronic acid).
    My ideal skincare product is basically water with vitamin B3, B5, C, E, and A, allantoin, ectoine (or any other potent antioxidant), azaleic or mandelic acid (though kojic acid, salicylic acid, and a handful of other acids could be interchanged), chef's choice of UV blocker, and a pretty substantial amount of hyaluronic acid of mixed molecular weight so it can function as a humectant, emulsifier, and thickener. Bonus points if you add in a moderate amount of caffeine.

    The thing with supplement STORES is theyre a business thats in the business for selling things. Supplements themsleves arent that bad, as long as you do thorough research into them and acrually get effective and helpful ones. Often times, ive noticed people addicted to supplements use completely pointless or un-helpful ones fhat dont really do anything at all for them. There ARE some great supplements out there, however the frw times ive gone into supplement stores, they dont have ANY of the supplements that actually are helpful. Gotts buy online or in hole in the wall shops for those ones

    Vitamin D and omega 3 has fairly good reasons for them. I'm sure he goes in there for a protein mix also. Altho I will say the vitamins that have 20,000 percent of that vitamin or whatever are actually dangerous and a lot of the forms of vitamins are not healthy or effective.

      I agree.. fish oil/black seed oil/magnesium/vitamin D,B12/omega 3 are all good supplements. Dr's dont believe in supplements cause they don't make a profit. My cousin is a Dr and he's forcefully told to sell people on western medicine.

    I really dislike how Dr Mike is so ideological when it comes to supplements. I've been taking Fadogia Agrestis and Tongkat Ali for around 6 months now, cycling on and off every 2 weeks, and I have noticed a marked improvement in my sleep quality, my ability to tolerate stressful events and my desire to do regular exercise. I also take supplements for things I struggle to get in my diet as a vegetarian. Omega oils, B12, Zinc and Vitamin D, and honestly, I'm healthier than I have been in a long time. My blood tests came back the other day and I'm finally not Deficient in Vitamin D.

    Your feelings are valid, Doctor. But, as much as I hate to hear it, I equally respect it. You have no reason to feel ugly. You're a perfect gorgeous human being, inside and out.
    Take it from this stranger on t'internet. I have no reason to be biased. 😉💖

    If modern medicine could cure everything, and we as patients didn’t get “punted” as you say, then maybe we wouldn’t be turning to anything and everything else for a bit of hope. Don’t knock it until you are suffering with multiple chronic illnesses that conventional medicine isn’t helping and you’re out of hope and things keep getting worse and you don’t get any help from your GP or specialists… If you are doing everything asked of you and still not improving, you have to be able to turn somewhere for hope… even if it isn’t a guarantee. Neither is most medication…

    Yes yes… I experienced this with a Cub Scout mom that had den meetings at her house. She had a crazy expectation that 10 rambunctious eight year old boys would just be very calm and attentive and would frequently remind them (in that creepy breathy whispering voice that goat yoganites have) that “this is a gentle house of healing” while constantly spritzing some DoTerra thing after another. After a year, I just kept thinking, “y’all ain’t healed yet? I don’t think your gentle house of healing is working.”

    there are supplements i take though to help my serotonin, dopamine, and estrogen. i need them as well as an ssri for pmdd. my PCP and OBGYN said these supplements are good for it. also, when i got covid and had problems with vomiting, i could only get down a multivitimin and i did feel a little better after. i eventually was able to get food down. i needed just a tiny bit of nutrients to feel better just enough.
