I still have a hard time imagining a period of time where the car manufacturers did not make cars. The 41's were pretty much the last untill the war was over. Nice look back at an age of innocence. Thanks Ken.
Sorry for my delay. I was off line without power, cell or internet because of Helene. We are safe here but lots of catastrophic damage as close as 3 miles away. Heartbreaking for sure. Anyhow, I think the same thoughts because it is hard to imagine no auto production for nearly 5 years.
The tires on these older cars are in large part responsible for why these cars rode so much better than today's rough-riding vehicles. We've replaced taller, softer tires with hard riding, fat tires with little sidewall to absorb shocks and bumps.
They had to be, there was no power steering - it hadn't been invented yet - so they had to minimize "scrub"/shear resistence from the tires so the driver could steer at parking speeds. Mostly parallel parking back then, too, big suburban parking lots weren't really a thing until after the war.
@@kensmithgallery4432 That’s what I thought. I live near Griffith Park and a number of the shots appeared to be from there, and I also noticed a number of palm trees in various shots, as well as the coastal scenes. I know that Ford was out in front of the others in terms of marketing savvy, and recognizing the importance of “hip” Los Angeles and Movie culture, they shot a lot of their commercials in the area.
Don't make a deal before you get behind the wheel! At least the men were driving the Fords! Don't let the women behind the wheel, they will be sure to wrap it around a tree or put it in the ditch! They will forget to put oil in it, forget to put gas in it, and don't get me going about checking the air in the tires!!!!
My first car, and I still have it !! I was 15 ,1971 .👍👍😎
Very cool! Thanks for watching!

Amazing how narrow the tires were on these old cars.

Did Ford shoot most of these commercials in the Los Angeles area?
I believe so other than actual plant footage.

Probably where their ad agency was based.
