Just celebrated my golden anniversary with my Daytona. I bought the car new on July 14 1970. I was 21 years old just home from Vietnam and fell in love with the car. Lots of stories through the last 50 years with the car. Thanks Jim in Napa

Goodyear Blue Streaks existed since mid 1960's, I'm sure they used those "off road use only" on their Kelsey Hayes or whatever brake rotors they were running.

Saw a video of the wing car test at Daytona. It was so scary on the high bank crushing the tire and trying to run it off the wheel. Some drivers packed up and went home. Said no thanks

@@davidthayer6969 That's funny as well... a Hemi Daytona could easily push 150 with 3.54 Dana or 3.55 Chrysler rear. Maybe post your comments where someone who has owned one of these cars won't see it.

One of my first jobs was at a body shop 6 years ago as a sophomore in high school. The owner has an orange plymouth superbird and use to have a white mercury talladega. He only let me wash the superbird once it was his baby. Those cars of that era are definitely special for sure and let's not forget the sweet sound they make 😁

When I was 16. My buddy had a girl friend. In her neighborhood a guy had one of these in Red with a White stripe and White interior. The car was already six years old. But still in great condition. The guy was friend's with his girlfriend older brother. We got to ride in his Daytona. It was like being in a freak of nature. 440 and a 4-speed. The car floated down the road till about 100 MPH. Then it settled down and planted to the road. Wow, What a car! We would talk about being at the track and going 200 MPH. Really miss those days. They couldn't give these car's away at the dealership. The insurance alone was just more than the average young driver could afford. A Charger was never a 4 - door car. Like today's Chargers. Shawn.

My mom had that car in green and she gave it to me in my 30"s I loved that car and it was fast and smooth, when I was in my 20"s she owned the car and I've had a lot of girls in that car yes the good old days when you knew how to pull it out.

The Charger was a Peugot & VW powered Four Banger - remember that? The L platform Shelby's? I'll take today's well - the 10+ year old Daimler platform Charger etc uses today over those weird FWD "Chargers". And you're right about they couldn't give the Superbird/Daytonas away. As a kid in '71 I had a '68 Coronet 500 HT really nice B Body - eventually sold it to a buddy for 5 bills and added my own 5 bills to walk into a New London CT Mopar dealer and get my brand new '74 'Cuda $4k with that $1k down. Cross the Thames river where Mystic is there was a tiny Plymouth dealer that still had a beige with black vinyl roof Superbird they couldn't sell or maybe it was a year before I pulled the trigger on a new car but I remember thinking BEIGE???? BLACK VINYL ROOF? (All Superbirds had vinyl roofs to cover the bad welds) BIG WING?? SNOUT? And I was a FAN of Mopars as a kid. It was a 440 not a Hemi which also played into the "there's NOTHING good about this car" but I thought about it for a millisecond. Oddly I miss the Coronet 500 coupe more than the E Body 'Cuda 360 - and a Coronet 500 of '68 is more rare to boot. Peace! 🚗

@@cuda426hemi Great Story! My best friend's Brother bought 70 Cuda' with 440 4 barrel with a pistol grip and 3.91. Dark Green, Black vinyl top. Aluminum slots on N -50's. Looked like a model car. My buddy and me were 15. We would take turns riding in the passenger seat. Just so we could watch him power shift that pistol grip shifter. That car would sit you back in those high back bucket seat. Off the line. From first to second. It would also chirp the tires during shifting. Two weeks later he rolled it after hitting a cement corner post. He took that insurance money and bought a Super Bee 383 4 barrel. Bench seat and a high shifter to clear the Bench seat. Green also with a Bumble stripe. Black top. It later Back fired threw the carb and burnt to a crisp. That was the end of Muscle cars for his brother. I knew a guy that had 2 super birds in original condition ! One blue , one sublime green . It was getting to the point where he couldn't drive them anymore . Low mileage museum . So he found a beat up satalight got a knock off nose & wing & we made a clone . I sanded the hell out of it to make it where you could not tell one from the other & he drove it all over the place . My friend & I engraved clone in spots so a buyer would know just in case it was hard to find unless your were a serious buyer . So some where in lake county Ohio there's a b5 blue super bird 🐦 driving around with a 318 auto that a very dressed up satalight .

When Dover Downs Speedway in Delaware opened back in the day, Hardee’s which was a big sponsor back then, offered a raffle for a brand new Daytona painted in the bright orange livery with Hardee’s emblazoned on both sides and the hood . I guy I knew back then bought a raffle ticket and won it! If memory serves, I think he was about 16 years old at the time. It was amazing that he won it, but even more fantastic was how flippin cool that car was. I’m pretty sure his was the pace car used at the inaugural NASCAR race there. It had a 383 with the automatic, but it still would boogie on down the road pretty quickly.

Love those race modded cars from the late 60s and early 70s. It was an amazing time.

Beautiful car!! We had a Daytona back in the early 80's. It was worn but complete with no rust. There wasn't much demand for them then. If I remember correctly we sold it to some guy out in Kansas for five grand and thought that to be top dollar.

also a side note to the Daytona fender extractors. the race teams would cutout the tops of the fenders under the extractor to allow the top of the tire to travel past the top of the fender with a end result of being able to run the car at a lower ride height they also extracted heat off the brakes and assisted in venting high pressure air flow from under the car.
